Have you heard of regulations?
@mndlessdrwer
@mndlessdrwer 6 жыл бұрын
A lot of it would require them to look into superior material choices for things like pillars and support structures to return them to a more reasonable size. Unfortunately, carbotanium composites filled with aluminum honeycomb is expensive, so nobody really wants to bother with it for pillars and such. Cars from the past that don't have to meet modern safety regulations can get away with those impractically beautiful canopies and bodies. Modern cars cannot.

Redstoneprime I understand that the older cars you listed are “super” cars of their era but I personally wouldn’t put them under the category of a supercar, those cars have their own individual unique caliber. I’m basically saying I only put the supercar name on the modern era of “super” (roughly year 2000+).

Since a kid (am 50Yrs old now) I've always loved the E-Type.. But then in 2015 when Clarkson showed off the Eagle E-Type on TopGear, I fell in love all over again. It was a similar feeling with the DB5, and years later (I think on TG again), they showed of a car that was a 'Ground up restomod' of the DB5, looking exactly the same, rebuilt and tuned engine, but, with modern brakes, suspension and other bits to bring it more up to date (similar to what Singer do to the Porsche 011's)... Man that thing was also a beaut!!! 🤔😍😍 😎🇬🇧

By far, the best restomod of a Jaguar XKE I’ve seen. My own personal take on what was shown would be dual exhaust pipes at each back corners of car, matching wooden handle of the e-brake to the wooden steering, up and down option of the steering wheel to driver’s preference. Again, my own preference, but man, what a beautifully done car.

this is the perfect car ... a friend of mine owns some E-types, he's never ever gonna sell me any of them ! ...never ever ... and , among his collection, there is a Convertible E-type. FOR ME this is the hymn to perfection, and flow of the lines ... this is the GOLDEN NUMBER of car design, this is probably one of the most balanced proportion that has ever been made , if not THE most , at all ! You can look at it, for hours, and you won't find a disproportion , not a single design flaw ... this is for me simply FLAWLESS ! This car HAS to drive on SPOKE WHEELS ! And, if you're asking me , it comes in many colors, as long as they are British racing green !

Always carried a volt ohm meter. Say for those times when driving my series 2 E, and having a couple drinks at the watering hole, the head lights don't work, or no tail lights. Dreadful. Mostly corroded connections, because these things were wired like an indoor amplifier from the 1950's. Slip on connectors, fabric insulation on wires and all. Sorry I ever sold it, but have a 1965 Mark 10 that better fits my age.

I'm a fan of restomods like this. Why not have the best of both worlds? I believe that every classic or high performance car should have a completely stock version somewhere in the world (perhaps in a museum) for historical value, but every other model should be allowed to be altered in whichever way the owner desires. That is the point of a personally owned car. It is meant to serve you not the other way around.

As has been commented by others, Eagle perform this same service, so that a series 1, 2 or 3 can be upgraded and modernised. As the modifications are bespoke, the extent of the work is up to the customer. I’m guessing E-type UK do the same. I have a modestly upgraded S2 roadster from Eagle, and took it in a 3000 mile trans- European road trip this summer. It was an epic journey.....

Close, perfect e type would have the s1 lightweight body panels and Dunlop knock offs with the lister stroker v12. With a getrag 6spd. Yes I’ve seen one and it was jaw dropping to drive and hear and look at

I was thinking exactly the same thing, to be honest I would want to put Series 1 front and rear bumpers and make it simply look like a widened Series 1 E-Type. It does look stunning though, brilliant spec.

Personally I think the styling of cars of the 1960s-early 70s (early being important!) was the peak period of automotive beauty, so it is really nice to see these beautiful cars given a delicate and often unseen new lease of life. Mixing that knuckle biting style with modern reliability and road holding manners has to be an irresistable combination. It is no wonder that the well heeled now have so many options in this sector of the market, e.g. Eagle for Jags, Singer for Porsches, Alfaholics for Alfa Romeos, etc. There are companies who also do this sort of thing for early Aston Martin DBs, and even Jensens!

I wish more people would do this with old cars. I wouldn't want an original DeLorian, but I'd love a DeLorian body with a good reliable engine in it.

Back in 1970 my Dad rebuilt a series 1 1/2 , even with all its faults I still lust after that car , the sound of the straight six through 1 1/5" copper tail pipes turned grown men to jelly 836 ENW where are you now ?

I have the privilege of knowing the owner of 77RW which was the second E Type ever made. It was used as a car to test various components on during development. It was driven overnight to the Geneva motor show to cope with the demand for test drives to potential customers. It is in prestine and original condition but trust me. Having been out in that car you would not want to use it on today's roads. It spends most of its time in a small workshop not far from me. It's always a pleasure to see it but I do wonder if it were brought up to today's standards just how good it could actually be. The biggest let down is the brakes and suspension. The steering isn't that great either. In its day it must have been superb. But time and tide wait for no man and indeed no car. I would love to see these cars come back into production again as they are a sight to behold and with today's manufacturing techniques and engineering they could even become available to the masses at a reasonable price. Just a thought...

My Grandfather owned the only fuel injected S3 V12 roadster built by the factory..Lucas system..hard-soft top..two sets of wheels..body mounted clips for his fly rods.....he employed a retired engineer to fettle it for him,,,he bought all his Jags straight out of the factory..the car is still in Scotland

Thanks for sharing Dave. My father, then myself owned a 1963 XKE OTS for 44 years. Driving and racing it in the late 1960’s was the high point of my car life. Compared to its contemporaries, it was in a league of its own. No American car would go 150 mph stock until the Corvette got the big block. The jag 4 wheel Dunlop disc brakes were not as strong as one would like, but they handled high speeds and repeated stops better than everybody else’s drum brakes. Only my 356 Porsches had better brakes. The independent suspension was better on less than perfect roads than the solid axle competition. There was less wheelspin, too. I thought that the clutch was fairly weak and prone to judder unless driven carefully. The American clutches were much better. The Moss gearbox was an acquired taste. Dating back to the XK 120, the slow deliberate shift, weak syncros, and non syncro first gear required a perceptive and skilled driver to master. Power steering would have really helped in low speed maneuvers, especially with the then new radial tires that were commonly retrofit. Radial tires increased the already weighty steering effort. At the time of its introduction, there really was nothing like the E type. And even today the design still creates visual excitement even to people who are not concerned with automobiles. Of course a new Honda works better in almost every way. But such is progress.
