The Torah doesn't say Adam and Eve had to eat. They could eat. Eating is very enjoyable. A joy! God made and gave them food to enjoy life. The Torah says God looked at what He made, and He said it was good. God made us to show His goodness. Not because He needed to show His goodness, He wanted to show His goodness. We read it right there in Genesis. 😇

@isabelhadasa6092

Why did Gd create us? To not be lonely. Gd is One. Imagine how lonely. We know Gd can be kind, wrathful, jealous... so many words in the Bible showing us that Gd has feelings. A need is not a a lack and vulnerability is not weakness. A plant needs sun to grow. Needing the sun doesn't make it weak. A "perfect" plant with everything a plant is supposed to have still needs sun. A plant is not lacking because it needs the sun. A plant is growing because it needs the sun. In the same way, Gd is not lacking or fallible in any way yet needs us. Of course, Gd is not a plant and we are not the sun. Gd cannot die - but our good deeds and choices can invite Him, expand His presence in the earthly realm. And we are not taken for granted like sunlight by a plant. Because we have to choose to serve Gd. He designed us this way because of his need for a relationship with us. If we were designed without free will, our service would not fulfill his need. It would be meaningless to Him. Gd is Gd because he needs us. Like a father is a father because he needs his children. A good father needs his children. A father who has no need for his children? Careless, negligent, absent, the opposite of a good father. And Gd is a perfect father, so the enormity of His need for us is probably beyond our comprehension.

The greatest definition of Hasheem and the Shekinah was written the day the Rebbe Rayatz arrived in America singing like Moses a new Song of the Sea Ocean on March 19 1940 bearing the Bridegroom of Blood across the ocean to seek the Bride in the Garden in marriage of the upper and lower worlds that was denied at Sinai by the choice of golden calf scepters of Egypt and Judah. The 48 Star US flag received by President Hoover at the White House in 1930 the Rebbe Rayatz carried across the sea with him and which the Rebbe latter transformed it into a 50 star flag making the US flag a prophecy of Geula revealing the 50th Gate of Understanding with the 6 and 7 stripes of the two Rebbes.

The notion of time and the direction of causality were quite different near the big bang vs how we understand it, but that's another story. You can see human-centric thinking in deifying matter, or that which caused it to come into existence. And what if spacetime has always existed in some form, then the question who started it all is moot. There is just something and not nothing. If you want to call that something God, do so. But if you want to give it preferences like those born of human brains, I think that's taking a leap people like Hitch found objectionable.

I asked OU Israel this: "Would it be safe to infer that if the creator spoke to one other than Moses, that people may become envious and break the do not covet mitzvah? Like, "where's my divine intervention!? I want a conversation with Hashem!! Why doesn't G dash D talk to me!?". That sort of thing? And why send messengers to speak on his behalf after Moses? Or if one was to receive word, wouldn't they need to keep it to themselves based on the mentioned scenario?"

Hello Rabbi Friedman. Wonderful and thank you. As usual I have a question…..yes from what read in the Torah, admittedly in English, the book says G*d is male, again, and again and again. But G*d created us with the ability to learn, change and grow. We know language changes over time because people change. Plus translating anything is very complicated so assuming the words, even in the same language are meaning today what they meant when written…..well that word assuming(and the joke that assume makes an a!? Out of u and me) is my ponder. We now know of animals, critters if you will to include all life forms above the cellular level, can reproduce alone, no he or she needed . So maybe G*d is both also? Yes we would need a new simple word as a descriptor but we invent words all the time. I suggest it is time to do these things…and instead of commandments I suggest foundations…perhaps Asimov was on to something more than even he realized. as a word for G*d neither he or she some ideas: esh(same letters different arrangement), ehesh( all the letters in he she), but somehow I imagine/hope the Jewish scholars, linguists, gematria experts will be able to figure out something good and find a way to link it to better translations. How much pain and suffering will be diminished in our world once this is done? Yes it can at first seem silly but medicine, science and lived experience show us the entirety of the word is not binary so why must G*d be? Because a book says so, one written by men from a time when physical size controlled much of life, including in the family and women did not have any real ability to not be impregnated, willingly or not? This seems very wrong on so many levels. You are very respected so please think about this. ( I worked in operating rooms and have seen babies with physical organs of both sexes…..it happens. Maybe G*d has left us a hint across time is my thought). Oh vey maybe but also l’chaim! Nu?

Hello. Shalom. One thing to know is God probably isn't male or female in any traditional sense. I personally am okay with people not using he when describing God. One thing to know is that especially in the olden time periods men carried more authority like you mentioned. The reason God is called he is because he is viewed as an authority figure. If you don't want to gender God that is between you and God. I find it hard to believe God would take offense to it. Your heart should know. Interestingly many people of early Judaism believed God had a wife Asherah. They got rid of the idea, so I see no reason why you have to keep things traditional gender wise.

It could be said the atheist is humble enough to receive a question like what happened at the beginning and say, "I don't know". To cross the gap between acknowledging the universe exists and stating there is a god who doesn't think I should eat bacon is a massive leap. Could there be or could there have been a god? Maybe. Even the ones who believe in it can't agree on its characteristics or what it wants after millennia of hashing the idea around. I'd prefer not to limit myself to the Judaic worldview or any idea which proposes a god until they can get their ducks in a row and solidify what it is. Scientists propose different ideas, but it rarely occurs that a person's scientific ideas depend on their culture or geography. Math is universal. 42 in the US is 42 in Japan and 42 in Zimbabwe, even if it is written or said differently. I don't hate religion. It just seems like a case of assuming the conclusion and then slapping together reasons to support it rather than following what may be known. A good way I heard it said is we could lose all knowledge of the periodic table and in time mankind would recreate it exactly. Lose all knowledge of the Torah or any holy book and it'll never reappear in an identical fashion. If it isn't replicable, it seems less likely to be true. Best wishes to you, sir. You seem an even-keeled & wise sort. I enjoy listening to your perspective even if I don't agree with it.

@Mr._Anderpson
@Mr._Anderpson 24 күн бұрын
@@splashenful Oh no. Hair-splitting time, and here I am without my razor. Think of it like a Venn diagram. You'll find significant overlap between the two. Also remember an atheist doesn't say a god doesn't exist. They simply say they do not profess belief in one and find the arguments for one uncompelling. An atheist saying they don't know what happened before the Big Bang doesn't mean they're agnostic. Atheism as I understand it is a rejection of theism, which claims to know a god exists and understand it to some degree. I just try to be generous. I wasn't there and neither was any other human, so I can't really say with any authority. Another question is one for metaphysics or quantum physics. How can we have anything "before" the beginning of time itself? We have very little data to form a basis for speculation. Someone saying they know raises more suspicion in me than someone who doesn't. Cheers & thanks for that.
@Mr._Anderpson

@@splashenful Agnosticism is saying it is unknown & likely unknowable. Atheism is a rejection of theism, the idea humans both know & understand a god and its wishes. He wasn't asking that. He was simply stating how a child who wants to sue parents for creating him without his consent is on to something. It's a blessing to have loving children. I'm glad things are good with you and your children though.

God is a english word a generic word for the Almighty that created everything. It comes from the germanic word goot which means good. "God is Good "Its capitalized to show it's the God of the Bible. Gods name isn't God. So when english translations say God it isn't referring to a deflation of God. Yahweh is used the 1st time is Abraham's story(A God personal to Abraham ) on the Mt. with Isaac. Before its el or elohim is used and yes these are not capitalized these are not names of God. Since there isn't a theological statement till after the "Fall" When Lord (Adonai) is used the 1st time. Yes the writing and word selection from the original translators (those scribes that were in exiled in Babylon ) is intentional. Genesis itself came from Oral tradition . The Version we read came from Moses. Moses is the story teller.

There's one other point of view: we don't know how the Universe began or it was a subatomic particle starting the universe according to a probabilistic occurrence and none of these imply consciousness. This would mean NO purpose to anything other than what intelligent creatures ascribe. To go further, what if, if god exists and created the universe and us, Earth/ Humanity has a purpose, but none of us is important enough to have a higher purpose of our own save for statistics? I mean, god would be huge. If he/she created the whole universe and presumably has knowledge of what happens even at its ends, at distances further than light could travel to due to distance and expansion rate, we'd be to him/her less than a grain of sand on the beach is to us. What kind of relationship could there be between him/her/zer and us?

That definition is for pegan gods. They are only as strong as your belief and worship of them. The Almighty God exists and remains the same rather you believe or not.

God is an ideal. An idea of perfection . The highest value n the hierarchy of values . The notion of impeccability and virtuousness . That’s what “God” is . As far as where the universe came from 🤷🏼‍♂️ no one can know for 100% certain . It’s impossible. I’m for the concept of God. I just reject a personal god, that is to say one that hears and answers prayers , intervenes and creates miracles. That’s made up

I'm not sure what exactly your argument is but I'll try and answer. First of all, what would creating a clone of someone accomplish for God? Your parent's genetics is what makes you unique. God wants a relationship with you because your unique. He does not want a bunch of robots worshiping him for eternity out of fear alone.

@tryme3969 I mean why would he create us if not to care for us? Why save the isrealites from Egypt? Why make a covenant with Abraham. The reason is the same reason why people want to have children. He wants a relationship with us. What is God if he doesn't have those that worship him?

You can have as many gods as you have people on the planet what else is there to know about god it’s a man made word that can mean anything to anybody it can be used to enlighten or to deceive bring out the dog in us or the god in us, so stop looking for something that’s been with you from day one cosmic Consciousness is your access to god and has always been the shell gets tired and worn but the energy knows where home is just one thought of millions.
Nobody told you what God truly wants from you - until now
