I believe the issue is that Ben Jordan is using more polyphony and larger patches that take up more RAM. Correct me if I'm wrong but Ave McCree is more of a sample-based producer and would not have these issues probably ever.

I thought the sampler/synth engine killing off the oldest notes when reaching polyphony limit has been successfully implemented in hardware and soft synth for... I dunno... MANY years now? Also, "too complex" music kills one of these things? Then program the firmware to manage it and limit tracks, polyphony, etc. Are there a lot of Kurzweils, Rolands, Yamahas or Nords just shut down or crash in the middle of a session? Sure, they all had buggier early test units, but the companies did not release them until more thorough quality control has been done.

I got the MPC LIVE 2 as soon as it launched a couple years back, and can say that the newest software updates (2.11 and up) has introduced so many glitches and bugs. I have never had my MPC lock up or restart mid beat before this update, and I'm not even using any of the plug ins. It has been frustrating.

It's possible Benn Jordan was incredibly unlucky with a bad device. This is something that also happened tome with an MPC Live 2. I loved the device, but after about 30 minutes of runtime it would crash with a "no internal audio device found" error. This error would persist until factory reset, but would repeat afterwards. I couldn't find any people with the same problem I had, and everyone I know that has one loves it. I believe the MPC Key 61 is running the same software on the same CPU.

@Daniel New MPCs software has all the things a DAW has such as sequencer, mixer, grafic, EQ, sample edit, built in instruments like sythersizors and everything a DAW has. The only difference between a PC running a DAW and the MPC running its software is that the MPC only use that single programme. It's a dedicated vertion of there DAW and you can run it side by side with there DAW on a PC because while looking different they do the exact same thing.

If I had FL studio mobile on My tablet and nothing else then My tablet would be no different in principle to having a dedicated single app for My device, it looks complete different form FL studio on a PC but FL studio is still a DAW. The new MPC software that they released with the MPC key is super buggy. I upgraded on my Live 2 and had to downgrade back to an old version because it was just not working out for me. From what I see, that is what the majority are experiencing. I think that is why Ave is getting a lot of backlash since a lot of MPC users are upset with Akai about this buggy update, but Ave backing it up kinda transfers that anger the users feel to him. Just my thoughts Edit: and Ave had some pretty bad irrational points in his rebuttal. I wish he would’ve thought everything through before he put that out since I’m actually a big fan of his and value his opinion on gear and vsts and whatnot. I don’t think he is a shill for Akai, but I think he got too defensive and acted emotionally instead of logically.

I was getting pops and clicks with playback with extreme attach and decay envelopes, sample chopping would always start from the middle of a sample, some of my old projects had midi info kinda messed up, and ya I just decided to downgrade until it was all straightened out. Only thing I miss is the new flavor plug in which is actually really good

The one other big thing I didn’t like was Ave assuming Benn (who I don’t even watch) didn’t know how to use the MPC or Akai products, which he kinda equates to him therefore not being able to give a valid review, but that had nothing to deal with the negative review since 90% of Benns issue was software bugs. And just like Weaver said, just because you haven’t had any bugs doesn’t mean no one else hasn’t - there are some people getting their MPC ones and lives bricked from this update, and then there some people with no issues at all.

The MPC Key 61 is no more buggy than the X, Live, Live II, and One because they all run the same OS. Depending on what features you’re using on the device, it’s buggy or not buggy. Lockups are most likely due to one of two issues. It’s overloaded or defective. I’d exchange it 1st before trashing a product. Surely, I’d wouldn’t use a MPC anything for live performance. Fantoms, Montages, Kurzweil 2700, and Korg PaX5s are so much better for live work.

It seems staged. It makes no sense why Ave would take it so personally. I don't think the MPC 61 was ever meant to be a live workhorse. With that said, MPC software is buggy af. We all know that which bugs occur often depends on how you use it. There are bugs I have never experienced that I know others have. I use Studio One and rarely have crashes, but a friend that regularly has 100s of channels in each track with complicated routes crashed all the time.

First off, I hope that Benn and Ave aren’t “beefing” about the situation. This can be resolved with a simple phone call. Now with that being said, I work for Guitar Center and one thing I know about a lot of these companies is a lot of staff cuts have been made. A lot of companies are short staffed, and I think that has an impact on manufacturing. I’ve personally seen products that are generally have been made well years ago, but are now having an increase on defects. I assume that quality control staff adjustments, cheaper chips being used due to the chip shortage, and the rush to make demand has played a huge role in these defects. Just my opinion tho, cause the manufacturers will NEVER actually tell you what’s going on.

@@dirg3music facts! tbh i knew the jig was up when i bought a stylus to draw in midi on an mpc live ii. also had various weird glitches where i had to restart the machine to get certain behaviors to function right. went right back to the daw with an actual cpu, actual built in storage, etc.

You're forgetting that Benn Jordan is a guy that frequently travels, and he probably wouldn't want to be carrying around a workhorse tier laptop everywhere with him. With the MPC, he could literally just carry that and a shitty laptop and be perfectly set by recording into his DAW. It's also much easier for live performance to have a dawless setup

@@radiofloyd2359 these days you can get a workhorse tier laptop for like a grand, high performance laptops have never been cheaper. I definitely understand the appeal, I just think it's kind of redundant when you can just get a ryzen 7 5800h/6800h, or an Intel 12650h/1260p/12700h based laptop that'll outperform my high-mid-range tower that's only from two years ago.

Revisiting this is kind of sad. At the time it happened, they both had around the same subscriber count(115k or so) but after this, Ave leaned into stupid overblown, typical juvenile clickbait KZbin reaction type videos replete with silly thumbnails (go check it out if you don't believe me). Before all this silliness, Ave's channel was mainly about checking out gear and focusing on music but its morphed into this silly, shouty generic drama based content as if he obviously felt that if this MPC keys drama got all this attention then that was the content to go with to drive more engagement. Sadly now Benn has almost double the subscriber count these days simply by continuing to do what he did before. Ave went chasing waterfalls. Stick with what you know people.

The fact these guys are friends makes one believe they staged the whole “beef”. Ave’s video is like a SNL skit. Benn is on a whole other level, and I hope he knows this, I’m sure he does. But look at how all this publicity is good publicity. This isn’t the first time Akai had released wack firmware.

Perhaps, as a beta tester for Akai, Ave felt it was his place to defend the brand. While that may be a noble intention, it doesn't warrant trying to discredit another successful musician who, by all appearances, is honest and specific about his negative experiences. If an expensive music device is sent out not fully baked we have a right to know about it.

I think it's just petty, because if they know one another then how come it was not discussed over the phone, if not in person? That being said, EVERYONE cheerleading for either person is just riding someone's jock. The point is, get it, use it, keep it, or give it back, and grow up. I had gear I didn't love and I gave it away, and if I wanted to, I would have sold it, yet what I did NOT do, is make a video and cry. When I had an issue with my Ensoniq ASR10, i called the store, went back and they replaced it with a brand new one. That's what grown ups do, and if it was a bad product overall, then I might have contacted the company AND made a video. It is not real beef and it never was, it's just a lot of people with no life taking a side. In fact, let me check and see if any of my over 20K collection of records contains anything made from these KZbinrs, because that's what matters to me.

Ben and Ave are both ultra creditable folks..we don’t need to generate, amplify Diss and polarities from their experiences with this or that which maybe is informative or not , rather analyse their experience with this or that, use to expand your preferences with informed experience in your own daw or by alternate reviews . I think the problem with mpc keys is the same problem that’s in mpc one. The lack of ram is a serious issue and akai should have added more so it can be used for more complex fuller production. If your doing standard hip hop or samples it’s fine but if your using the built in synths then you soon run into bottlenecks and glitches. I’d say if your hooking it up to a computer and using it as a controller in mpc software then problems would be pretty rare because you have better cpu and ram power. But I’m standaalone your restricted too how deep or complex your songs can be. I think akaai kinda fucked up they should have knocked a grand of the price and sold it as a controller. They could have taKen out the hardware inside but kept the screens and most people would have been happy. I can bet most people who bought this would have it plugged into there computer anyway and very rarely used it as a standalone product. And this is from a guy who’s used there products since the early nineties. Akai are a superb company but in the last few years I feel there milking the mpc software too much and they should create something new for there standalone products

I could definitely see Ben Jordan pushing hardware to its limit! He's a beast. IMO MPC stuff is a bit over priced and over hyped. Definitely an unnecessary beef and Aves seems wrong for this

Also, I don't think Ave was trying to claim that the bugs "weren't real." In his followup, he said that he actually thinks Benn got a defective unit, which is certainly possible. (I have no dog in this fight. I like both content creators, and while I do have an MPD, I don't really have any strong feelings for or against newer Akai gear. I'll always have love for the original MPCs--60, 3000, 2000, 2000XL--but I really don't have much interest in the newer MPCs.)

Benn has enough experience with gear and Akai in general, and he IS a product tester/content developer, for several manufacturers. Ave is taking benns critique personally, and clearly isn’t taking into account the depth Benn goes into products and philosophy about them. Edit to say, it seems racist to assume that a particular product represents a demographic of people…. It’s a fucking music workstation. And “bad reviews hurting a good company rep” let’s remember the rhythm and timbre wolf
