That buyer broke an eBay feedback policy so you should be successful in getting it removed. They used feedback extortion when they said “well, I’ll just leave negative feedback then.” I’ve been successful in having feedback removed within the new system by quoting the policy and how it was violated by the seller. Basically, you need to prove it wasn’t just their opinion. Good luck! I think you did everything right and this buyer had some bad intentions from the jump.

If only it mattered to eBay as to the intentions of the buyer. I have had the exact same experience and eBay stated buyer found issue that wasn’t disclosed in the distribution so feedback removal was denied.

@ eBay’s policy also states that if the buyers gripe is with something that is clearly disclosed in the listing then the feedback will be removed. This is why it is extremely important to be very descriptive about any flaws.

I wish they would track buyer accounts. It would be a simple algorithm they could run once a month like our seller level. If an account leaves excessive negative feedback/the number of orders, their social should be banned for 6 months. If they offend again, indefinitely. If they have excessive returns, same thing. If they are constantly getting refunds, same thing.

@bd2864 it could be, but I've also made mistakes in the past and still asked that the customer just return the item instead. Long story short... I had a tech deck dude lot and I forgot to include in the description that some of them were missing magnets in their feet. I took an offer for like $25 off and the customer asked for a partial when they relaized they were missing. I explained that I had already accepted a lower off on the items and I'd prefer to get them back instead of providing an even steeper discount.

What irks me (and it happens frequently), a buyer will mesage us an offer (for example $20 on a $30 item), and we decline it. In this case I would report the buyer as you did offer the full refund. Reporting the buyer not only helps you but helps other sellers from buyers like this. I buy all the time on eBay, I love sellers that do the right thing, and you did the right thing here.

I think fishing for a partial refund is premeditated even before the item is actually purchased too. A way of getting inventory for their own sales. You are well known with a great reputation. My husband and I are subscribers. We are newer full time resellers. We 100% agree with you decision and thought process. It’s so amazing that there are such dishonest people. I sold a poly perk coffee pot. The buyer messages me saying it came damaged and she would like a refund. She said she should have realized there was a problem when she saw a small hole in the box. Long story short. She ran over the box and crushed the pot. No amount of packing could prevent that. No way the post office is going to deliver that package as if it’s ok. The buyer got a full refund and I’ve filed a claim with USPS. The sad part about this is it was an adorable vintage coffee pot that was in great working condition. You are a great reseller. Honest and entertaining. Keep up the good work.

Oh dear that's terrible, I'm sorry to hear that I love vintage coffee pots. I will say though as a buyer I did have a package delivered to me that was completely obliterated. It literally had the truck tire marks on it. You should have seen my mouth drop when I saw it. It was a book. I read it and then years later I sold it on Ebay and I stated that it had been run over by a truck 🤣

I think the problem with grading condition is that condition is often an opinion. People have their preconceived notions about what “good condition” is. In the buyers mind good may mean excellent or mint. The buyers “good” is not the same as eBay’s “good”. I had a buyer complain that the vintage diecast monster truck lot I was selling was not excellent as there was aging and marks visible in the photos. I had to explain in terms of diecast that excellent does not mean near mint or mint.

We would do the same thing. We have only been selling on eBay for a year now but have had people request partial refunds for what we feel are not warranted claims so we just do what you do. We are more than happy to refund and we offer free refunds. We have had people request refunds before and then never return the items. Buyers cannot make threats to sellers! eBay should remove the negative feedback because that is against their policy! I don’t blame you for not giving a partial refund. Sounds like he was trying to scam you. Even if he wasn’t trying to scam you, he’s a bad buyer. You didn’t do anything wrong. You tried to give the guy a full refund. I didn't know ebay had their own, somewhat detailed, explanation of the good, fair, excellent, etc.. book grading structure. I dont sell many books, but from here on out, I may put in my description something like "good condition in accordance with ebay's definition" and maybe link to these descriptions. I’ve had a similarly frustrating week, 3 returns, negative feedback and one person complaining that their original 1980s perfume is “old” I’m like ummm did you read the title and description and item specs all of which said “1980s” I’m putting it down to frustrated holidays shoppers but it still burns. 19 years on ebay and this is my worst week ever 😢 Best wishes for the holidays, love your channel and learned a TON from you! I did go and look at this sold listing. Some of the books, to me, look a bit worn, HOWEVER, there are a lot of pictures that plainly show all of them. I think you handled it well. I did offer partial refunds when I first started but I saw the same people asking for refunds. Now I only give refunds when they return the item unless I messed up. They will probably complain and leave negative feedback but most shoppers will see all the positive feedback over the one negative.

I’d have to agree with your thought process and how you handled it. My recent one, I sent out a brand new sealed jumbo deck of playing cards. He claimed they were damaged and couldn’t have happened during shipping and wanted a partial refund. I told him to open a dispute with eBay so I can dispute your claim and to also send me pictures of the item so I can file a claim with usps. He didn’t want to do any of those things and just wanted a partial refund and told me he didn’t want to be bothered with any of that. 😂 I said ok, well if it’s everything you claim and want your money back why would you not open a dispute nor send me any of the pictures? He’s response was, whatever I’ll just keep it and deal with it. That’s when you know they’re just trying to scam you.

I got a return request for "item not as described"... for an issue I went to great lengths to describe and photograph. That listing had a free return on it anyway, so I didn't need a reason. I messaged the buyer who asked for a refund. I sent her the original purchase price back, but immediately blocked her from future purchases. Ruined my whole day and I swear the algorithm slows down your sales when you get one of those "not as described" return requests.

Kevin, I wonder how u feel about this. I was on vacation for about a week. Came back, opened store and haven’t listed since ten days later due to immense crafting that had to happen for gifts. I haven’t received one order since before vacation now about fifteen days. I’m obviously in the eBay doghouse. This is what bothers me; I may not have listed anything new but I am still paying for a store each month. What am I getting for my 20 plus? Might be a subject to discuss. I think eBay is wrong to do this to me and maybe others. Thanks.

MY GO 2 TAPE....You did the right thing, full refund was the best way to handle that situation. I would reply to his comment on eBay feedback if eBay doesn't remove first, defend your lively hood.
