I notice personally the mid gain bluesy tones and cleans sound amazing, the metal tones I’m not sure about (same as most modelers). With the right IRs and maybe a Tube Pilot modded with the bias up you’d have high end realism. For cheap. For metal, though not sure. But for rock & blues man, this is actually pretty great by itself.
@BudgetPedalChap3 ай бұрын
Usually with the cheaper units, it's the other way around as they tend to be a bit more compressed which lends itself to harder tones. I completely agree that it can do the mid gain and clean tones really well. I've been experimenting with IRs and that can help the tone shaping quite a lot too 👍

These are great for new players IMO, when I think about what was available at the price point when I was learning… this blows that stuff out of the water. Great vid budge!

Cheers gent, it's a great bit of kit for that price point and could easily be a great first gigging solution for new players. It reminds me a bit of the old boss GT100, which I've seen being used live to great effect 👍

You can gig anything, that said how you are received by other people and how you sound may or may not be positive. The issue with budget gear is when you play them next to professional gear, you can hear how anemic they sound. It's a revelation that can have negative potential on how you perceive your gear, tone, and reputation. If you do play budget gear I would recommend keeping things simple with just a few well sounding settings. Less to go wrong. I've owned and played all sorts of gear and I will always tell you to play gear that inspires you to be confident whether it's professional grade or not. The other thing to keep in mind is what sounds good at home usually does not sound good on a stage whether you are playing with others or solo. I definitely encourage more people to follow their goals when it comes to playing music but don't be too surprised when you have rude awakenings. We all go through them.
@BudgetPedalChap7 ай бұрын
Yeah, I suppose you can. I would be hesitant to gig the smaller version because if any of the settings were a bit off, it's so much more difficult to alter on the fly. Like you say, a lot of why we chose gear is how it feels to play, that touch responsiveness and player feedback you get. Considering the price of this, it feels pretty good to play and responds to the volume control even 👍

@@BudgetPedalChap Gear is a bit weird. I've had good luck with guitars and amps that most wouldn't fit with and I have had professional gear that wasn't worth the cost. That's why I said gear that inspires confidence, it can be cheap, mid priced, or expensive. Usually I do my own thing so fear I have modified usually gives me more than what I need.
@BudgetPedalChap7 ай бұрын
@@gringogreen4719 absolutely. I run a Variax guitar as my main guitar switch is basically a Yamaha Pacifica, most look upon them as student guitars. It serves me well and sounds great, so I've no need to change. The goal is to make some great music, some forget that and get lost in the gear

Even though I have played for thirty years, I got my first multieffects a couple years ago: A NUX MG100. $99 and I was very impressed, until right before it was time to play (I play for church every week) it decided on it's own to reset to factory defaults and I lost everything. I still play weekly with budget gear... just not the very cheapest gear.

I'd like to hear more about the features, especially the send loop. Is it movable in the order of effects? Are the other effects movable? Are send and return independently movable? I like that the return can be mixed with the normal path
@BudgetPedalChap5 ай бұрын
@@gregorwalton all of the FX are moveable, I'm not sure if the send and return of the FX loop are though, I think they class as one block. I haven't dabbled too much with the FX loop if I'm honest because the features in the unit cover everything I need them to. I've got a video coming out where I use an external expression with it, so look out for that one 👍 if there is enough interest, I'll make a follow up deep dive on this one covering the features in a bit more detail

Have just bought one , I got the Mooer GE300lite a month ago and found little to fault for AUD 1,050.. I have found the Matribox to be surprisingly good with a similar simple interface such as moving effects . I thought they could have added a on/ off switch and I have found the headroom on some pre sets was lacking a little as well as sound quality. That said for AUD 260 (a quarter of the price of the Mooer) it has to be the best quality board at this price point and an excellent entry level product. Like so many some fiddling is required to achieve a realistic sound but I would highlight the pre-set 03 B 60's OD , just push the gain to 100% . Do not alter anything else. Play the 4th string 7th fret and then the 6th string 5th fret and see if you can guess the song. While not exact sound, it is pretty damn good from a budget modeller and a good example. (The guy that wrote the song went back to the studio but could not re-create the sound on his modded tele).

I've not had a chance to try the Mooer, but it's nice to know that the Matribox holds it's own against it and for less money. They recently released the pro, which adds an on/off switch and has some amazing switching options too. I've been very impressed with the Matribox stuff, I must say 👍

I have valeton gp100 for small gigs. Do you think that Matribox 2 is a worth upgrade?
@BudgetPedalChap6 ай бұрын
I can't say for certain, I've not tried the valeton. That being said, the gp100 send very similar to the Matribox and the gp200jr send very similar to the Matribox ii in terms of button layout and IO. In terms of sound quality, there isn't a vast difference between the Matribox I and ii, but the switching and ability to edit are where the II really shines. If you find the switching limited on the valeton, it might be worth considering upgrading. Hope this helps 👍
