I can totally understand why this caused a lot of arguments, haha. Imagine being overweight when you get your suit, then losing weight, then replacing the extra space in your suit with stuffing so it still fits you/the character, and then being told you’re wrong for that. It can be so circumstantial, and I get really disappointed when stuff like this pops up.

Already exists. I’ve heard many furries go “take a shower, that’s disgusting!” But like people swear in fursuits so it’s only natural they’ll smell a little
@LoveStruckLoner3 жыл бұрын
Coming from a fursuit maker, I personally believe they should be kept clean. Not just for societal expectations and such, but also because it can stain the suit and make the fur get matted, thus ruining the quality of the suit itself. A similar thing happens in ALL conventions where some (not all, just a few) people don't shower or take care of themselves hygienically. I get how these things can be really hard, especially if you suffer with mental health issues (I totally get that because I also struggle) but it's general courtesy to those around you to wear deodorant and clean your clothes/cosplays/fursuits, even if it's solely for the convention. If it's for sexual purposes, like a musk or sweat kink, it's not as a means to discriminate your preference or desires. Some things like that just need to be kept in private or with your partner because a lot of children go to these conventions, and a lot of furries are very hands-on and enjoy hugging, play fighting, etc, and kids will especially be interacting with these suits. It's especially dangerous since the young fur population is HUGE and it's still growing, and I'm already seeing far too many young furs being exposed to these kinds of things. Basically, people asking you to clean your suit aren't trying to degrade you in terms of sexual preference or mental health, but it's more of just a courtesy and basic politeness for those around you and who are attending the convention.
@Bownimations013 жыл бұрын
@@LoveStruckLoner that wasn’t my point ^^’ I was talking about people who do shower and take care of their suits and wear deodorant and such. A lot of people will tell them to go take a shower when they did, it’s just that they’re wearing a thick suit with foam that acts as an insulator and thick fur and you’re bound to sweat and gain some kind of stink. I wasn’t talking about people who don’t care for themselves or their suits at all ^^’ Just saying that Musky Husky is a thing that people actively attack people for but like you’ll always sweat in suit no matter how much protection you were or under armor you have, and if you don’t sweat in suit then you’re dehydrated and seriously need to get water fast or be at risk to pass out. And sometimes people (myself included) could take care of themselves and their suit and be the best at hygiene but have a stronger scent than others that a lot of products don’t work for. There’s even some people with an odor related to a medical problem that won’t go away with any product. My comment on Musky Husky scent was not talking about those that don’t shower or wash/brush their suit, but specifically towards people who do but they naturally sweat and it makes the suit stink sometimes which causes people to be hurtful towards the one that has a bit of an odor.
@Akrilloth3 жыл бұрын
@@Bownimations01 Do people really complain about the slightly sweaty people though? While yes, some people overreact, there is one thing when you have some person having sweated alot because they basically wear a polar suit inside a hotel space, but then you have the people who thinks actually not showering for 3 weeks is okay, because "Animals don't do it". Your otherkin spirit or so doesn't affect how your human biology causes bacteria to grow in your old sweat, and these borderline mentally ill people need to be told so.

As a big endomorphic person who’s not white, I tend to be more on guard towards such matters because I’ve seen appropriation before of many things, and don’t particularly wish to see it start being about body types as well. Essentially, I don’t mind people doing things with muscle padding, as being a person with high muscle mass who’s been bodybuilding as a hobby for many years, I can understand that, but when it ventures into body types, then there’s the aspect of mockery when it comes to exaggerated features. Essentially, I just wish for people to not take things to a level of ectomorph pretending to be a heavily built endomorph, because that just seems like a deliberate mocking of people with bigger bodies. Like it’s something they can just “take off”. Like saying “just lose weight.” Essentially, I just wish for people to be conscious of the gravitas of some things, and not throw around matters like build as if it’s just some thing, because I had YEARS of self consciousness growing up thinking I was a fat kid, because I didn’t yet know what body types were, and that really wasn’t pleasant. It’s like someone without PTSD playing a person who has it; they don’t know the pain, the suffering, the hell it can be, so they have no right to act like they do.

If only big people can have big characters then everyone with buff ripped bois better be buff ripped bois under there or imma riot lol Also what about certain fursuit styles? Some styles of fursuits have large body types completely because of certain styles or kinks. Like inflation, belly, plush suits and more. That would be cutting off people in those respective niches, of which if you are not a part of then you shouldn't dictate them because they are a mix of large, tall, slim and small people who seem to coexist already in those communities. If someone wants to be a body type or just simply like a body type that isnt wrong. It can be hard for some of us to portray a character perfectly like some others and some people can pull little tricks and tips to help them portray a character even more. That doesn't mean they're wrong for doing so. I'm underweight and I have a few characters, one of which is a heavy boi. My older brother is overweight and has a few characters, one of which is a slim boi. Neither one of us has criticized eachother for liking these characters. Honestly he and I worked pretty hard to lose and gain weight together being we are both on the extreme sides of the body spectrum. What a weird and silly controversy, though I'd expect nothing less of Twitter. The whole body positivity thing has always irked me somewhat because I've noticed how prevalent it is to encourage people who are unhealthy that "they're fine the way they are." Yeah people are free to do what they want with their bodies, but people shouldn't be advertising their unhealthy lifestyles as healthy. Anyways, I think people of any body type can make their sona or OC any body type they want to. It's silly to try and gatekeep people from making certain kinds of characters.

I can see two sides. For one thing, most of the body positivity movement is about not equating how you look, with your health. I won't get into detail as I don't want to trigger people, but regardless of size or shape people can be healthy, or unhealthy, as he said, as long as it's not extreme. And with fursonas as fursuits, you can always add padding, but you can't take away. Shapewear does exist, but would not be ideal in a fursuit due to extra heat. So I can see wanting to sort of level the playing field, but I see plush suits and I think of cosplaying as a teddy bear, not wanting to be a different size. Most fursuits already have thigh padding, I think of my Lucario suit I'm making, and that's nowhere near my body shape, but it's playing a character. And some people have characters that are a lot like them in terms of body, scars, disability etc, but it can be fun to play around, especially with cartoony proportions.
@starrynight89033 жыл бұрын
@@jlbeeen I agree with you, but in my experience when people share these body positivity things on the internet they are close to extreme cases, if not just plane unhealthy. Yet they may appear perfectly fine physically. The problem is internally and in the long run. exactly, what people sell as "body positivity" is just enabling laziness and gluttony, true body positivity is treating the body well, and not laughing at someone who's at a healthy weight but has a different body structure that doesn't allow for the hour glass body shape, but rather accepting all healthy body types, be it the hourglass, the apple, or the pear or the tube/stick body shape, these are perfectly healthy body structures, just some aren't as attractive as others, and honestly, there will be jerks who will make a huge deal out of how someone looks when it isn't that huge of a deal, but generally, those should just be ignored and/or dealt with appropriately with whatever means that works for the situation. But, for TRUE body positivity to work, we must stop this hyperfixation of being fat and lazy and touting it as healthy when it is not, and start focusing on accepting other body structures that isn't the stereotypical barbie doll body shape as well as accepting those who happen to be blessed with such a body.

People have done that with me, calling me; cute, sexy, f***able and all other compliments when I was at my lowest and I fell for it. Not knowing how heavy and, yes, hideous I was becoming. Back in October of last year, I started my Keto diet and lost approximately 50 pounds. I have never felt better in my life and I am still going! And do you know what started it? People saying I was fine and super cute, yet couldn't securely fasten my restraints on roller coasters, leading to uncomfortable rides or in one case, break one down. Yes, if you are not secured properly, guests will be let off and the ride will close down to see what the problem was. Yes, they could have escorted me and yes, it could have been something else. But my seat wasn't secured properly, which could have been the problem. So please, if you see your friends and you fear for their health, skinny or fat, please let them know that you worry. A small diet here and there to balance out your weight isn't bad. And the people fortifying the bad side of Body Positivity need to be called out. Sorry for this stupid post, but I wanted to get this off my chest. Remember, the more extreme on both spectrums you are, it will affect you in your everyday life. That is life. I have faced that and one day, it will catch up to you.

Tbh ppl misunderstand what the body positivity is saying, it seems including you as well. Body positivity is simply saying to not assume, judge or bully someone for their body, weather they were bigger, smaller, an amputee, in a wheelchair, or teeth that aren't straight. Because you really just don't know why that person is like that, including overweight people. There's medications that can make you gain weight such as cancer meds and anti-depresants, it can also simply just be how your body works like with low metabolisms, or maybe you're suffering mentally and that affects daily life. But in the coming years some people have used it as a way to be obese and not work on themselves, tbh tho I don't rlly see it as much as ppl try and make it out to be, it's more of ppl saying "being 10lb overweight isn't that big of an issue, stop bullying ppl" or "hey can you not insult this person and ruin their mental health? That won't help". It's just about respecting and helping people, it isn't trying to normalize unhealthy behavior, but sadly some ppl do do that and shouldn't.

@@vixymix101 thank you because their comment is brain dead as fuck. My partner is fat because he’s disabled and has a shit ton of medical issues and can’t exercise. We also both have eating disorders and hardly eat yet we’re not losing weight. I briefly gained a lot of weight because of my antipsychotic. So many things can cause someone to be fat, but that’s between the person and their doctor, not strangers with an opinion. You’re not their doctor, keep it to yourself. All body positivity is about is that people of all sizes deserve respect. Sure it may cause some health issues for some people, but you wouldn’t bully a person with other health issues like cancer?? Also you CAN be fat and healthy. Some of my fat friends are some of the healthiest people I know, they exercise, eat good, and doctors say they’re perfectly healthy. Their old family members were the same way their whole life (genetics can cause people to struggle to lose weight too) and lived their whole life free of health issues. These people also take a few extreme examples from the body positivity movement and think it represents everyone in the movement. of course you’re always hearing about the extremists, because people see them saying those things and everyone freaks out and it gets shared everywhere every time so of course it looks like it’s the whole community because people only ever see the .1% of extremists and not the 99.9% of the normal side. They’re getting angry over nothing yet these are the people claiming everyone’s always so triggered and offended…

I think something people seem to forget about body times and shaming is that, sometimes the person can’t help it due to issues, medical or otherwise outside of their control. Besides the obvious things most people know about like food addiction, severe OCDs, being physically sick everytime you eat, stress levels, there’s also things like financial issues, physical disabilities, medication, the country your from, social pressures and metabolism that can really make putting on or losing weight incredibly difficult. People online seem to have the same answer to both extremes, “just eat less food and stop being lazy” or “just eat more food” but it isn’t always that simple, odds are if it was things like obesity probably wouldn’t be as common as it is. Take it from someone that’s 18 stone with a spinal injury, this stuff isn’t always easy

The one thing furry artists do that's controversial is not knowing the anatomy of certain animals before making them anthro. Honestly, it’s like that thing on the American version of the office, “Michael Klump”, the character Micheal in the show does at parts; it’s a mockery of people with larger build that blows things out of proportion to a point where it’s like; are you saying morbid obesity is bad, (yes it is) or straight up mocking anyone with an endomorphic body type for being unable to change the fact that they naturally have more fat on their body than you? And further playing into the danger zone of insinuating things like that people can “just lose weight”, or the like. Appropriation is a dangerous game, I’m saying, and people should be aware of the kinds of messages they insinuate in some actions, because neurotypicals of a white, scrawny disposition especially are often blissfully unaware of the gravitas of certain appropriations. TLDR; one must be aware of which way one punches, up or down, and what one may insinuate in being an upper pretending to be a down. I say this as a not white endomorph who struggled with self consciousness about my build for YEARS growing up. I merely wish not for people to act like build or privilege is just something one can just throw off or acquire at the drop of a hat. And lastly, “thin shaming” in my experience smacks of white people or straight people complaining that they’re the ones who are burdened; vicitmisation. The oppressor playing the victim. Just my experience, but know what one insinuates in one’s words, and how that can invalidate others, in the same way a neurotypical saying “eVerYoNe iS a bIT aUtiStIc” is a vile and scummy thing that invalidates the struggles of autists. TLDR; unless you’re of a certain demographic, you don’t get to make the judgement call on what others can appropriate from that demographic.

Skinny people are not oppressed in the same way fat people have been historically. Art and character design should not be secluded to the bounds of what your IRL self is like. Having fat-fur ‘Sonas can give feedees an outlet for exploring the social space of fat-furs and getting a glimpse at what they might see or expect once they’ve transformed their bodies the way they’ve wanted to. The dynamics of eating disorders in relation to this subject makes any sort of judgments really toxic though. People should live how they want to live and if they can’t do so due to medical ailments, metabolism issues, or eating disorders then they should receive help from benevolent and non-judgmental trained medical health professionals to do so.
@KakeraWolf3 жыл бұрын
Just seeing the image my initial thought is the padding is actually dangerous. One of my suits requires padding in the belly. Its hot. And it can restrict movement. It can be dangerous for first time suiters to get a full body suit with big padding. I initially took it as form fitting suits are better than ones with large padding.

As a furry who has a heavier-set character, and wants to get a fursuit of them, my two biggest fears for doing it are 1, people like the one discussed in this video thinking I'm a bad person for wearing a padded suit and 2, people "fetishizing" the character because they are heavier-set (I'm sorry I don't know the actual word to use there), or assuming that my reasoning for making them that build is the result of a fetish. It sucks because, I really love my character and I am an avid advocate for body positivity (hence why my character is the size they are, as I try to diversify the range of body types among my characters), but as long as there are people who believe stuff like this, I'll never feel truly comfortable either fursuiting as this character, posting art of them, or even discussing them [especially on Twitter], because of the backlash or creepy comments that may come as a result.

Too anyone out there who the post/image has affected, you don't have to listen to other people's opinion. Stuffing your fursuit isn't harming anyone, and if it makes you happy, go for it. And as a fat/chubby person, 30-40lbs over my recommend bmi, I feel like people take things to the extreme when things are rarely black and white. Obviously being way over weight or way under weight isn't healthy. It's kind of disgusting behavior for people to treat people differently on solely appearances alone. Too much or too little of anything is bad, but being an ahole isn't going to fix anything on a large scale. It doesn't come across as genuine concern and can even push people over the edge. Bums me out that people are dwelling on things so much, especially online, that the focus and reality of things get lost. The best you can do from my experience, is to do the things that make you happy. Design your suit anyway you want, if it's not promoting anything that can hurt anyone, it's not an issue and people can learn to mind their own business.

There were some real oofs in this one. I think your over all message is good, but some of the things you said lacked sensitivity to subtext and underlying reasons and or feelings. What I'm saying is, you came off very shallow at times. So, rarely if every, does someone choose to be heavy. What happens most of the time is they just ARE heavy and after a life time of living with it, they get to a point where they accept it and become comfortable or even begin to like it. I'm heavy and that was very much me. Diabetes. Diabetes is NOT a a result of weight gain, rather, the two go hand and hand due to genetic markers. Diet a diabetic DOES NOT MAKE. It can worsen the symptoms, but you getting diabetes is not a result of your weight or diet. That is a BIIIIG stigma that is VERY incorrect. Again, speaking from experience. ALSO! casually talking about having a medical condition like diabetes directly leading to something like an amputation as a foregone conclusion is sick. The same is true for the other categories you mentioned. There are a small subset of individuals who desire these conditions and actively seek them and that is a whole can of worms on the side, but most people are the way they are even whilst trying to change and the happiest ones learn to love who and what they are in spite. ALSO! People being more accepting and even liking bigger body types in this fandom is refreshing. No fetishizing it? That bothers me a bit, but liking it in a potential partner? That's refreshing! Not just because I'm heavier, but because it's real. People come in all shapes and sizes and a lot of those sizes are bigger. That should not put someone on a lower rung of attractiveness or create a stigma that follows them round. Now, if your weight is extreme, then it might be time to admit there is a problem and seek treatment, but for say, me, I am extremely active, walk everywhere, love hiking, but I can never seem to get the wait down past a certain point. And there was weight trouble in my family so I know I am genetically predisposed to it. So in many cases, people who are heavy are not so because of poor life style or any real fault of their own. The things you say in this seem to indicate a perpetuation of those stereotypes and I think you need to seriously step back here and think about that. Another example is when you state that it is ok to cosplay as a black person if you are white. The racial history and history of abuse by white people in the United States against black people is serious and that is a HUGE no no. There is a REASON for that no no and you should look it up. I am a teacher in a largely black inner city school. The issues I refer to are experienced right now, in the modern world, daily. So you have NO RIGHT to ok something like that. What you can say is that no one can stop you from doing what you want, but it isn't "ok". What you are right about is that if you choose to do something controversial, be ready for the consequences. I get that's really what you meant but the way you say it is just....it's really bad, man. I actually made it to 7:28 and had to turn it off man. I'm a new watcher but I may consider removing my watch as this was just a ton of you speaking with misinformed, thinly veiled judgements and callous disregard for the feelings of others. I hope you do better.
