I was wondering if fidgeting and sudden movement makes it more likely to lose a nail, which hurts, so she's learned to be still. It might be less she's calm and more she's shutdown, like aversive training would do.

@@gullinvarg Depressing to think of that association, but pain IS the body's alarm system to tell us "something is wrong" or "don't do that again". Autoimmune diseases are absolutely infuriating; the body's own defense and repair systems have gone off totally stupid and there's no consistent way to put them back on course. (I have eczema and Hashimoto's disease, so I regularly yell at my immune system to stop having dumb conspiracy theories about my skin and thyroid.)

@@Mojova1 I am not theistic, but there are things called "turn of phrase" you know. IE: Someone sneezes and people say bless you, or "Oh thank god" this or that. Or "Bless your heart". Not everyone who says these things believe in a god, and even if in the case of the person here if they did, what you said is miserable and mean and make atheists look like assholes. I hope you know that.

I had a neighbor with a cat who had an autoimmune condition that caused recurrent infections in the nails. Even immunosuppressants and steroids didn't help, and they ultimately decided to fully declaw the cat. I know everything thinks declawing is inhumane, but it gave that little cat so much relief, he turned into one of the sweetest cats I've ever met because after he healed, his pain was so much less.

The reason it’s considered inhumane is because that’s like chopping off half of the fingers. I’m glad the cat you mentioned is doing better after the fact, though!

That's a different situation than declawing because the claws are inconvenient for humans. In this case, I can see it helping the cat, so in my mind it's the smart thing to do.

Omg .... my girl Luna is also a GSD and golden mix. The only difference is that she's all black with marbled socks and her fur is not golden long she looks more like a shepherd. The little hair whispies give her away. Luna has such a sweet temperament and very easy to train. Luna is quite the vocal diva lol

Vanessa she is gorgeous. Such a good girl. My sister's Lurcher had the same disease. She was a rescue, left tied to a post in the middle of nowhere. I think rescue dogs are usually the best behaved because of their previous lives. My sister's dog was so loving and gentle she used to visit in the hospital we volunteered for. We raised money for the comfort of patients and staff. Thank you, Vanessa for another great vlog.❤❤❤

Vet here - this is a great example of a dog which has likely been to many, many visits at specialist veterinary hospitals and local vets, and has been treated with care and kindness. It doesn’t cost anything for vets and specialists to build relationships with clients on four paws, just time. Worth every minute to make what is often a scary and daunting experience feel safe.
