Love this scene. Its the perfect depiction of what happens when someone realizes you went with the flow because you felt like it, but they mistook that for you being complacent.

Humanity in its entirety has barely existed for the equivalent of 5 seconds compared to the dinosaurs, and we use what’s left of their sludgy remains to power our lawnmowers. Everything that humanity has ever “accomplished” will be lost to time as the earth orbits silently in the vacuumous void of space until the universe collapses in on itself, by which time our collective existence will have been so brief that it can be questioned if we ever existed at all For all our grandeur and perceived intelligence, we are as meaningful to the Galaxy as an ants fart is to us We aren’t a universal anomaly per-say as much as we are an eventuality, but even that doesn’t make us inherently special I hope there is something more than living, because “living” is spending the first 1/4 of your life learning how to follow instructions to be a more desirable employee, so you can spend 1/3 of the next 50 years working for the privilege of living indoors before the last 5-15 years are spent in an irreversible physical and variable mental decline On average, only 1/3 of our total lives is truly ours to do with as we please. The remaining 2/3 are spent sleeping and toiling away for those precious moments that are actually ours… and more and more people are wasting half of *THAT* time doing nothing worthwhile at all (myself very much included) Reading the worlds first fantasy novel (Bible) and spending 3,000 hours of your life at a glorified book fan club (1 hour/week x 52 weeks/year x 60 years) is hardly a sign of devotion; I know people they’ve spent that much time playing Legend of Zelda games. If LoTR fans spent that much time obsessing over those books they’d be called crazy… I don’t see any difference between the two groups… except that LoTR has Aragorn, who is a total badass

Without even knowing anything about the established comic book characterization. The Batman and Robin portrayal was an insulting joke to fans I am sure. This portrayal was awesome and as someone with ignorance of the source material, I felt that the character was a great villain and can see why fans appreciated it more.

This was not a Nolan move, Hardy improvised this move himself... Nolan had very little with the creation of Bane. Bane was created by Tom Hardy. Gotta give credit where it's actually due.

Hardy took this character in his own direction and Nolan "stepping back" to somehow allow what would have happened anyway, does not gain Nolan any credit! You're not actually trying to credit Nolan for what Hardy did? Because that would be ridiculous. When any actor wins a "Best Actor" award they don't hand it over to the director because the director let him cut loose with some of their lines! That's a really stupid comment, dude.

The moment Dagget realizes he's made so many mistakes, he's misread the current situation, and foundationally he misread Bane completely in working with him. He saw Bane as some sort of mercenary who would do his bidding for money, but Bane was a man with a purpose and ideal/goal that was most important to him. So sure Bane could be counted on to do things that helped Dagget when it aligned with his interests, but he should never misunderstand why he helped.

This kinda prives that Money isn't power.....but merely a tool for the powerful to coerce the weak, desperate, and greedy. True power comes from those who are willing to exert their will and ambitions into reality while influencing those around them, that in its true form is power.
@zerosen1972
@zerosen1972 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. However I find that the "powerful" as you so put it aren't powerful at all. They're weak, slimy, wormy, worthless individuals who could never enact their will through force or intellect. They rely on manipulation and pray that there's no one smart enough to discover their schemes before they reach fruition. That's why when shit hits the fan they cower and flee. That's what seperates them from powerhouses like Bane - when you can't throw money at a situation, your power stops entirely.

@@thorny8013 The power you buy from money only lasts until the fear of no money runs out. When you face someone who doesn't care about how much money you throw at them and no one around them is willing to turn against them for any amount of money, then you've met real, actual power. Pretty much anyone who lives paycheck to paycheck and doesn't save despite having extra money. It might be weird for you and others to hear, but a large majority of the planet doesn't give 2 shits about having money and just wants to live their life. It's frightening for the minority because it means their money has that much less power. If I could somehow live without seeing a single dollar the rest of my life, I'd do it in a heart beat. You, and people like you, have literally made it illegal to live off your own labor or just the land. You FORCE people into the system.

@@DarthObscurity money can't buy you. Money can buy people who are willing to butcher your family and make a nice scene for you. Anyone who has money has connections. This money and connections lets one do things you can't usually do. It's not just greed. Going against a powerful person doesn't mean going in without the greed to overcome his offers. It's what that person can do with that money to ruin your life. This is what power means. Society is dark and things aren't as simple as they seem to be. You don't seen to understand that. Unless you have no family and no hope in life, and your sole purpose is to have beef with a "powerful" person, you have every reason to be afraid of them. It absolutely shows how powerful Bane is as a person. It wasn't a hand closed around the shoulder, it wasn't a closed fist, it was an open palm, facing upwards, which traditionally is more of a submissive gesture. Imagine having that kind of reputation and fearsome brutality, that an open palm gently resting on someone's shoulder is enough to put the fear of God into them!

It took me years to realize that Daggett's flunky had been working for Bane all along and knew perfectly well what Bane was doing with Daggett's assets. Probably even helped Bane issue orders to those crews himself. This scene was not him choosing to abandon Daggett. He'd already done that long ago. This was him finally deciding to let his boss know the truth.

This scene is why the Nolan batman films were so amazing. This scene right here showed why Bane is terrifying. Not really his muscles, not his tactical skills or planning abilities. No, he manages to be, purely, to the dictionary definition of the word, intimidating. He never says anything remotely loud or violent. He never hints at anger, or frustration, as if what he's about to do isn't wrong. The man he kills is a terrible person, and the fear that takes hold of his face is so amazingly powerful that you forget what he stands for, and are reminded that the powerful are only that way because our systems were designed to make them that way. And the scene I think is better for the muffled scream and whimper. Snapping a neck can be quick and painless but it usually isn't, if the spinal cord isn't cleanly snapped, you'll drown in your own blood as your spin slices through your lungs and you'll be conscious for anywhere from several seconds to a full minute as you feel yourself dying. While a minute is a relatively quick death in the grand scheme of things, that scream points out how long and painful a minute really can be. And I think it gets to the heart of fear, it doesn't show us the harm, instead forcing us to imagine it. Now if they cut the scene a couple seconds early and just didn't include any sound, we'd still have to imagine what happened. But with this, we don't have to think about what happened, we know what happened, but instead of seeing it, the sound forces us to picture, much deeper than just seeing it done, while also not diminishing bane to just a psychopath, seeing him do it would make us see him as a lunatic, but by cutting away, it keeps this air of sophistication that he perpetuates, he does things because he wants to, but he is also knowledgeable and intelligent. He is the definition of a villain in every way. While the Joker was terrifying because he spoke to the maniac we're all afraid of, Baine speaks to the plotting generals and super terrorists that have kept us awake since the earliest wars in human history. Hannibal and Ceasar kept many men up at night as they tried not to think of the suffering they would endure as their best laid defenses were deconstructed piece by piece and them being unable to stop the force coming for them.

God, I love this scene. I really shows how much dramatic impact **AND** character-revealing one can accomplishwith a few lines of dialogue. It also reaffirms my steadfast beliefe that Tom Hardy is far and away one of the very best working actors in movies today, bar none. There is, of course, ability to really inhabit the skin of a myriad number of characters-- **any** character-- along such a large spectrum. But there's also the fact that he's obliged to play the role of Bane while wearing a facial appliance that all but completely renders him unable to use any facial tics or expressions in his performance; that's a pretty daunting challenge for **any** actor, especially when portraying an oustized, dramatic, and over-the-top character like Bane. Thus, he has to step up every other part of his game (voice, gestures, postures) to cover that deficit...which he does characteristically well. The man is a veritable tour-de-frickin'-force
