He's also opening the hi-hat ever-so-slightly every now and then, to get a slightly sloshier note. It appears to be improvised.

Great job laying down Steve Jordan’s groove. His grooves can’t be beat.

New subscriber here, Jeff. I love your playing, your style and your excellent innate ability to break it all down and teach, as well as the way the various video angles are shot so we can get see exactly what you’re playing. Kudos to you and I’m grateful to have found your channel as well as grateful for the time you put into it all to share with us. And this groove is amazing and fun to play! Although there is just one thing I would have liked to see/hear while learning this groove from you, and that’s a countdown before teaching each bar when it could be applicable. I’d often times have to keep rewinding the video in attempts to key in on a moment so I could learn exactly where to start playing within each bar you were teaching so I could keep up. Trying to start the measure off with those quick double stroke ghost notes and playing in time with you from start to finish without a countdown added even more of a learning challenge. As I mentioned, I’m a new subscriber and haven’t had the opportunity to sift through all your lessons as of yet, and perhaps the particular ones I have watched and learned from just coincidentally didn’t have a countdown, but many of your videos do. Just throwing it out there since I’m here on your channel now and it popped into my mind , and in the event you don’t normally include a countdown where it may be applicable, I’m hoping you might consider it in the future. Definitely won’t sway me away from your channel if you don’t do it as your content is very well done and I’m a fan, just a suggestion is all.

At first, I didn’t see the benefit of moving the hand from the hat to the snare. But, nuance and pickup notes from the rhythm on the hat really did it for me. Somehow, I was able to work-in the finger control and ghost notes that you showed us. So…that’s just a long way of saying thank you! Great lesson.

Very similar to the funky Chad Smith groove. Can’t recall the song. But I just watched your video on it. This one has more boat notes. Accents are pretty similar though. Very tasty!!

Great video Jeff! Love that hi-hat combo. What’s on bottom? I use a K Dark Thin on bottom and a Special Dry on top. Recently got an A 16” to change out as either a top for something brighter, or a different bottom variation. Debated a K Con and wish I got one now!

The original sounds straight to me. Groovy but not triplet/swung
@JeffRandallDrumming Жыл бұрын
Try playing along to it. You'll see that he's definitely swinging it.
@jessbonde Жыл бұрын
I think it's the very subtle ghost note before the 4 beat that swings it. The rest is straight in my ears
@DrumsTillDeath Жыл бұрын
You love what you love. It doesn’t sound very hypnotic to me. Sounds like a R&B./Rap groove played by a Master. Wait! I’m feeling sleepy, Oh it’s just the Bud kicking in.🤐
