Speaking of damaging guitars on TV, Disney + has a "how its made" type show called Made In A Day that has an episode innthe Nashville Gibson factory. You can easily see why so many guitars from there have finish damage. Many members of the production line are wearing jewelry while working on the guitars, specifically very loose fitting metal watch bands, belt buckles, and even a very loose metal chain bracelet. You can see this jewelry coming in contact with the guitar finish, even being moved across the finish, in numerous shot during the show. Even if you are careful, you eventually will end up hitting the guitar and cause scratches in the finish or chuncks out of the binding or divits in the tops. And being so fresh, no doubt the finishes are still soft. This is inexcusable for a modern production line. I can't believe they allow ANY loose or metal jewelry to be worn by workers on the line, especially in the final steps after the finish like assembly or inspection. Pretty much no manufacturing company allows jewelry on the line, particularly loose, especially where it can damage product. Such a simple thing, but Gibson doesn't get it.

@porcelainthunder22133 жыл бұрын
@@michealpopplewell3894 looking at it again, there are A LOT of unprotected metal tools and clamps used after the binding is attached. So who knows. But they hand wrap the binding with rope when gluing it on, so its not likely that.
@porcelainthunder22133 жыл бұрын
@@IrisGalaxis they still have a lot of finish issues that should not be there in a guitar that cost well into the thousands of dollars. Epiphone has better out of the box quality on a much cheaper guitar.
@hkguitar19843 жыл бұрын
@@michealpopplewell3894 the tooling marks are the result of how Gibson forms the fret nibs. The neck binding protrudes above the fingerboard and is filed flush between each fret end up and down the entire neck while leaving the binding at each fret end. That is how the fret nibs are formed. Because of the Les Paul’s body shape it is very difficult to file the binding in the areas where the neck has joined the body as there is not much room to work the file properly. I’ve had to make/file fret nubs before on a repair I completed, it is a real pain in the a$$ to do the job without leaving tool marks. In all honesty a special bent/shaped file needs to be developed that would make the job easier. It wouldn’t totally eliminate the tooling marks but would speed the process up and allow the builders extra time to be more careful. I’d lose my mind if I had the do that type of work +8 hours a day.

Austin, I must thank you for something unexpected. Your tone demo gave me a chance to hear Gibson's 57 Classic humbuckers well enough to compare their sound to that of a pair of Epiphone Alnico Classics that I have installed in an Ibanez RG220B that I rescued from a pawn shop. My ears tell me that my Alnico Classics represent the sound of the 57 Classics rather well. That tells me that I made a good choice in buying the Epis; the fact that I installed them in such a "metal" guitar is no mistake. I don't think that I'm stuck in a "vintage" rut, but my ears LOVE these pickups!😎❤️️🎸‼️
