I'm half way through and so far this is one of the best all-around GUTS episodes I've seen. There's been some good competition in the first 2 events, it's all tied up and the pool is next. Why am I so invested in a gameshow for children that aired 20 years ago? Because I actually watched the original airings of these shows, suckers!

NBA Jam on Sega Genesis mainstreamed the phrase "IS IT THE SHOES???" in 1993. Guts Season 2 began airing in October of 1993. I take Meri was a fan of NBA Jam..... or at least had some exposure to phrase. I certainly recall it quite a bit and I would have been about the same age as the contestants at that time.

After they each lost momentum, Red was helped after 10 seconds, Purple was helped after 9.5-10 seconds. Not really as big of a deal as Joez made it out to be. lol Regardless, their difference in times was 14 seconds, so it definitely didn't make a difference.
