A friend of mine experienced the same moment back in 1981 ! Last minute, I was given 2 tickets to the NEIL DIAMOND CONCERT at the SPECTRUM in Philadelphia..I wasn't dating anyone at the time but I started making phone calls and all of a sudden I received a call from a young lady who worked for me part time..Hey Rosie, YOU LIKE NEIL DIAMOND?..she said "I LOVE NEIL DIAMOND"..WELL, BE READY IN AN HOUR, I AM PICKING YOU UP !. ...the SPECTRUM that night was packed and they set up OUR SEATS right next to the stage ! Rosie was excited and impressed ! Towards the end of Neil's incredible performance of the night the lights went real dim and all of a sudden Neil started singing his new hit HELLO AGAIN ! ..Next thing he walked over to us and started singing to Beautiful ROSIE..the whole song..They were both bathed in ONE SPOTLIGHT...IN FRONT OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ! TEARS were just pouring out of Rosie's eyes..NEIL LOVED IT ! At the end of an incredible performance he gave her a big smile, blew her a kiss..and the SPECTRUM EXPLODED WITH APPLAUSE ! ..It was quite a moment..I dried her tears..She gave me a long look and said THANK YOU SO MUCH..I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS NIGHT THE REST OF MY LIFE..a week later she had to move from Philly and I never saw Rosie ever again

Just caught a SiriusXM rebroadcast of the Feb. 3, 1979 Casey Kasem Top 40 countdown. In it he tells this song's story as the only one of Herb's many hits that included his singing voice. As Casey tells it, this TV special's producers leaned on Herb to sing one song so that the viewers could clearly see his face, without his usual horn in the way. Burt Bacharach happened to have "This Guy's In Love With You" at the ready. Following the broadcast, public clamor for the song got Herb into the studio to record the familiar version. Great video, great audio, I love having something so obscure at my fingertips!

And it's a classic. Great story about the birth of the song. Burt Bacharach was the songwriter of the 60s, so many hits he wrote with Hal David.
