If I remember in the manga, the Love God was watching Castle in the Sky, Studio Ghibli film, when he made the mistake. I couldn’t fault him. Studio Ghibli is too good to not get distracted.

Actually,the shrine god also mentioned it in anime, when he said "laputa" which is the original title of castle in the sky, i think the translator change it little bit (fortress in the sky) to avoid copyright, since anime copyright is quite "stronger"

The idea that the MC is going to build a harem of 100 girls sounds crazy, but the way it is done is so good. I have read some of the manga and only gets crazier this man collects girlfriends like Ash collects Pokemon.

A funny part that didn't seem to be adapted in the anime was when Rentarou got to high school and all that, in the manga he says "We won't make the readers wait another page because sense of reality ain't worth a damn!" In reference to how on the previous page he was just expressing how he was so excited and couldn't wait for high school to start. Definitely contributes to the feeling of "speedrunning harem tropes"

This Series has 2 authors, Rikito Nakamura writes the story, and Yukikiko Nozawa does the art. The authors already said they are in the long haul with this Series. All girlfriends are treated as if their are the main girl, so every single girlfriend Participate in every single major plotline. And if a Series like "Komi can't communicate" can run for +400 chapters then i'm going to bet this Series of "100 girlfriend's" will also reach +400 chapters the same with Komi. Edit: This is my favorite rom-com/ Harem series of all time!!!😊

100 girlfriends is legit one of the best execution of harem concept in a genre, doing great as a both a parody and straight up good harem stuff, to give you idea about the pacing, we just got 26gf in 150th chapters, no rushing, all girlfriends are around and relevant, so it's going to be looong time before it's naturally ends. Anime is perfect adaptation, rumoured to be split-cour with 24 episodes, so we may cross into 10s number.

Rentaro: "Feelings of Love" Hakari: her last name means "Flower Field", and her first name is pronounced the same as "calculating/scheming" Karane: Her full name is intended to sound like how tsundere usually ends their sentence when they're being a tsundere (janainda kara ne) for now only these 3, because I dont want to spoil but the names are great you cant even expect their personality but the show does great changinng or surprising us with some aspects of the characters or just play around the meaning

The author makes a regular joke in the manga saying that the 100 in the title was a joke but now is forced to create 100 girls because people didnt understood the joke lol and yeah, at this point in the manga there are 25 or 26 i think already and they are all developed characters, i cant see it end without a fully 100 developed girlfriends anymore, they nailed the adaptation, with all the 4th wall jokes and references i thought they could screw it tbh but it is amazing

I just finished watching the first anime, and I was staring in shock and laughing at all the antics that were going on. Old man screwed the MC over, lol. Lol at the various 4th wall breaks Hanazono seems to be one VERY hungry girl given how she's aiming for indirect kisses. Got the canned drink today, wonder what's coming after Inda is THE literal definition of a tsundere with her lines and actions. This episode was going rather out there, and I'm all for watching this through to the end to see what other crazy antics will unfold. Hoping for at least a balanced harem concept to be able to give the various girls screentime

Part of what makes this series great is not that it is just a great comedy, but that it also is a great harem series as well; it works brilliantly at showcasing what makes the many archetypes of heroine work. And then they begin to run out of archetypes to demonstrate and begin just creating new ones from scratch.

It’s finally out?! I need to watch it! The manga is on chapter 151 and he’s up to 26 girlfriends right now. Yeah don’t expect it to be serious like at all. I think one chapter even brings the author in with everyone talking to them 🤣 and there is a page with like a half a page panel and two massive quote bubbles of Rentaro, the MC, just talking and filling them up before they cut to the girls as he keeps talking 🤣 They usually get through the girls accepting the feelings and agreeing to date him pretty quick. It’s usually they meet and either by the end of that chapter or the next they confess to each other. Then the following is the new girl interacting with the others and then about 5-6 chapters of different things whether it be dates or some of the girls interacting or a small arc for one of them. And then they introduce a new girl in the following chapter. I really love this series XD and the pervy girlfriend…just wait until you meet her family XD My favorite hasn’t been introduced yet. I think she’s girlfriend number 7 if I remember correctly. Also this is both a harem and a polyamorous relationship series. So you’ll see some of the girls begin to also like each other. Honestly they’ve teased this among three sets of girls from what I remember. I highly recommend reading the manga after this season of the anime is over. It’s hilarious 🤣

I just checked this first episode out on a whim, cuz normally i absolutely despise (almost) every harem and the last harem parody I watched I ended up dropping relatively early on, but I think I haven’t genuinely laughed this hard watching a romcom anime in years. I almost started crying when he said „find out after this short break“. I had to pause the episode to compose myself and i’m still giggling like an idiot just thinking about it xD They picked the perfect voice actress for Inda… perfectly capturing the tsundere-ness that is her entire being so far…. Oh it’s the same as Iino in kaguya. That makes a lot of sense xD That god seems like a bro ^^ I should rewatch Laputa, I’ve seen it as a kid the last time but it’s been a while since I’ve seen a ghibli film anyway. Might as well just make it this one if this god praises it so much ^^ Ok, fun and all aside, I honestly REALLY like the part with Aijo being like „I know better than anyone how much courage it takes to confess(…)“, basically taking his experience(s) with him and building up on them is a really nice touch for his character This guy is way too wholesome, I’m gonna die of cuteness before this is over xD Holy… the ED is cute, too, what the heyll 2 in the bag, only 98 more to go. Will we ever get to meet all of them I wonder…

The first two soulmates remind me so much of Momo (Hakari) and Nana (Karane) Deviluke from To Love-Ru ~ Darkness, with Rentaro being a way more... proactive Rito Yuuki. Seriously, if Hakari spouts the words "Harem Project", I'll know the authors are fans of Hasemi and Yabuki, because that's the only other manga I know that goes down the same... route. (Googles the manga's data) Yep, they are Jump comics' authors (from one of their seinen publications), so they likely know those two crazy authors mentioned above... But yeah, the whole premise is batshit ridiculous. And funny. Must-watch anime 10/10. The cardinal question is: how will Rentaro manage the daunting task of dating 100 girlfriends? That's what I'm here to see. That and all the fourth wall gags, 'cause they are just so good (when he made the mistake, the God of Love was watching Laputa ~ Castle in the Sky! Good movie, btw, and one hell of a... reasonable justification for a teensy-weensy, life threatening mistake). And all those shameless references remind me so much of Binbougami Ga!. This is the best series to watch... before Dark Gathering. I need my good cheer before diving into THAT pit.

So far great adaptation, they really managed to translate the self-aware/meta humour of the manga into anime and add a bunch of visual humour, we're in for a good time. If you think this episode was crazy you're not ready it gets much much dumber, sadly the iconic panel with the 1000 word dialogue probably won't appear this season, maybe if it gets a s2.
