Here is the ugly truth. You are needed to pay taxes. You are needed to contribute your kids to war and to keep the GDP growing. You are needed to buy, buy and buy to keep the economy growing. If you want to get real, you are needed at home next to your kids. Yes they need you, they don't need a bigger house.

As a 41 year old man who grew up as a Christian in Texas, from my perspective, these young men don't realize how fortunate they are to be taught such wisdom. The idea that God has needs from me is a game changing paradigm shift.

I reached the top of a mountain which was the goal but i was alone. I remembered seeing people watching me ride that wave as they stood on the riverbanks. i then felt i needed to go backdown that mountain to get the people to the top of the mountain. i knew there was risk going back down but i knew it had to be done. Hello Rabbi , Eugeme here. Please consider the possibility that Elohim has always been a creator and has always had a creature to consider valuable that He could bring pleasure to. Is it possible that someone gets their pleasure from giving from their abundance rather than receiving to fill their emptiness? If His creation is mortal it will need to be sustained and if it is aware of reality, it will know these things, and be able to respond. To love something or someone is to believe that it/they are "precious". We always love what we believe to be precious no matter how little or how much we "know" about it/them. I know that I need to be sustained and I know that I did not cause myself to be, that others did that. That makes them precious and I love them for that. When I became convienced that Elohim was the original and final cause, I knew He was precious and I can't help but love HIm.

Thanks! You make this wisdom stuff look easy..... We naturally think the goal in life is to achieve a level of success where all our needs are met. We'll be independent, secure, and happy. Unfortunately, this goal is unreachable. But there are moments we experience it. It feels great for a little while. Then, you realize when all your needs are met, there's nothing more to do! You're now pretty much useless! The only way to become valuable is to be needed..... When we're needed by an infinite/eternal God...... we have infinite/eternal value!..... Especially to God!

So we can’t/don’t have any needs…but your mother can/does have needs…. Make your mind up. He accuses them of lying whilst saying someone else needs something they can’t because they don’t have needs. This good man, has stumbled upon an idea, a good idea, which he is stretching across all of existence to turn into a drum he can play this one beat on. It’s a very interesting point and it contains many good understandings but it does not fit all matters. Life is not a drum. What he is trying to say with this ‘needs’ issue is that GOD IS LOVE - but He does not need love to be love. Love does not need, it is. And we are necessary for that love to be in relation to everything which is in material reality. It is indeed necessary that we love because that is who and what he is, but it is not all that he is. Christianity doesn’t teach vulnerability? Dude……one word…. CRUCIFIXION

Once you can understand this fully , then you are ready to actually love your humanity , but if you can not love you , then don't expect to understand what it is to love someone , because it will not make any sense to you , because you will be to busy in pointing your finger at the other talking about all the negative things you are seeing about the other , instead of acknowledging the truth that what that person is doing , you too did it in your own way !!

It is my opinion and long time experience Jews and Christians are very different and act quite differently due to the nature of doctrine. One is self directed and the other is about others. Yes, that is part of conversion but that is also about treatment of others in life. One is inside focused and one is more outside conscious. It’s up to you however you want to view that in terms of life and living.

There are teachings that there are four levels in sacred writings; from pashoot/ simple to sod/ secret. Judaism supports multiple interpretations of sacred teachings (how else can one reach to know an unknowable G-d?) and in the light of this approach sacred writings are not a manual. AND everyone must approach sacred texts in a way that is true to your own heart. To you the texts are like a manual. This works for you & that is holy.

Interesting ideas. I agree we don't really "need" pleasure per se.. but for starters, it would be very difficult to ignore physical pain. If I agreed that I don't have an inherent need to take care of my body, therefore I'm going to stop eating and starve myself, get cold, or overheated - I will be in severe discomfort and pain very quickly. It would be really difficult to say that I don't "need" to do anything about this discomfort and pain. Only a staunchly stoic and disciplined person could do that. Maybe some kind of yogi. Or we can make it really really simple: try not breathing for a few minutes and then see if you "need" to breathe or not ;)

@@Beintentionallyweird I think it's a hyperbolic way to express himself. But to an audience like myself, that's not too familiar with the concepts he's approaching, it's quite confusing. It would be much better if he set forth clearly, what he's thinking we don't. need. Years ago, I've spent a great deal of time figuring out what I need and what I don't. But food or water and sleep and basic protection from the elements - I've never considered that I didn't need those.. There are stoics and yogis who get into practicing that of sort severe deprivation; but I don't believe that's what he means here. And also, the way he lays out his thinking, taken to it's logical conclusion would imply that we also don't "need" to worry about what God wants from us, just like we don't need to stay alive, comfortable, satisfied in any way, etc.. It would be the ultimate nihilistic denial of absolutely everything.

Need comes with many different interpretations I always wander why Rabbis start with a topic then finishing with another? I think it’s complexing the young mind, do they need it? You started with God infinite power and knowledge of God, a book can be written about this!

You talk your way. RMF speaks his. Why do people think they can do better? If you can, do. Go global. Is it necessary to try to dictate to someone else what they 'should' do in your opinion? Rabbi Friedman seems to have decades of success teaching, sharing and inspiring.

Oh how I love the wisdom in the lectures. But you missed something about christianity - Mesiah dies on the cross just because of the vulnerability. He doesn't want Heaven without you. And He is never careless about anyone's death. He tries so many times to reach out for a single soul. Remember prophets? Remember Osiah? Oh how He loves us!!!

Rabbi didn't 'miss' anything 'about Christianity'. It's not his topic to discuss. That's yours to embrace elsewhere. We don't want or need it. If we did, we'd be elsewhere.

in the human sense as well dear Rabbi, vulnerability as the numerator time as the denominator, as a fraction of love; kind of like what one chose first (א). 🔽 So for example: “when things are great, when food is plenty, when happiness attends; what is the first choice for that love? - and in parallel when things are not good, there is no food, sadness is overcome” what is their target of love? 🔼 • and then when the past and future also becomes meaningful with the Olam, • the credit of that love goes to ? (Then, i believe it is more allowed to say “that love”) + and also for all that when it is: “it’s all my fault…” this can be that love too
@archanglemercuri
@archanglemercuri Жыл бұрын
and that all my fault part: • that has a very very high cost: costs pride, costs recovering all selves to help carry the blame, and to somehow make that all at least meaningful enough to “take the blame” - suuuuper vulnerable

You're focusing on 'love' being the "solution" for the equation. It's not. Your "givens" are not valid. Your hypothesis, though accepted by many, does not hold water. Have to start all over on your drawing board.

@@nomorecensoringme i see what you mean, because to be more specific, it would be something like: “Oh i may have ignored my soul for a long time, and in very real sense; that’s not the souls fault. And it’s not the best idea to blame this or that (because this or that won’t necessarily take responsibility), i (one has to do that)” • so for example an alcoholic (and i don’t drink), but if an alcoholic is too often drunk ignoring the soul, that’s the drinkers fault. And it takes vulnerability for that drinker to approach that

@@nomorecensoringme so to add that, love is an element of the aiming of solution, it is also the yield: at the very least, the solution could also be seen as; a foundation strong enough to hold up the yield

So let me get this right, we (Jewish people) are here to make the world Godly. I have seeing thousands of people through my life from Catholic, Christian and many others preach to me the word of God, But NEVER EVER A JEW, so how is it that you are planning to accomplish that mission? Lets be honest here, Jews don't care much about none Jews.

Vulnerability is one of the first lessons of the more spiritual Christians . So am not sure why Rabbi labored that one. I've grown up with Christianity AND Judaism, and I just DO NOT GET the division. G-d is good. Just all get over ourselves already. Somebody bigger than us is coming soon.. Need? Yes please. Was born by two mentally sick parents who denied and even invested in me not actualizing who I am..in my mid 20s I need to be me and realize my dreams..it truly is my need to step away and breath. Learn who I am and putting in work my projects if anything was to stop this,I would be a very miserable person..I think these are my needs..being bigger than life

The Lord's Pray taught by The Messiach taught to the prophets has one line "Your Kingdon come, your Will be done". We are here to do God's will not our worldly desires. Another key idea in Christianity is to be in the world BUT not OF the world. I hope these ideas help the lost and wondering Jew to find their way back to the narrow path. I wish you all well.
