RCE i dont think "not an engineer" should be ashamed; he could be an engineer student or an engineer enjoyer; they admitted they arent an engineer. Furthermore they went to the wheel willingly sacrifacing themselves so that engineers can continue their important jobs. Truly an upstamding citizen of Timberborners.

Hard mode is no joke. It'll be interesting to see how Matt fairs from here on out. You can't really do the silly things Matt likes to do in hard mode until you're well into the late game. If I can lend one piece of advice, is that it's far better to place log storage and warehouses close to where the resources are USED, and not where they are harvested/produced. So the lumber yard really should go next to the saw mill. Also it's a good idea to put some water storage right next to the wheel of shame. Whenever the "shamers" get thirsty there's a lot of downtime when they walk across town to the water storage.
@takumi20232 жыл бұрын

The ultimate goal for this map I assume would be to dam up the "spiral river" so you can store up loads of water. And technically, every single resource in the game is renewable, so there is really nothing from preventing you to create whatever you want
@MiroslavDrahos2 жыл бұрын
RCE. From all the youtubers playing Timberborn, I actually enjoy your take the most (after my own ofc lol). What I noticed, common approach to playing this game is to use as many resources as possible, ramp up the production as high possible, boost the population to the stars. To the point when there is no reason for having even more beavers as there is no job for them. That is, basically, how we treat our actual planet. I found different way of how to play this game and it gives me great joy and feeling of fullfilment, so let me share that with you guys: Instead of filling the map with beavers and their inrastracture, let's fill the map with vegetation! What does that mean? Build your industry, farms and districts as usual, but with greater good being creation of the system of channels, dams and floodgates, that allows UNSTALLED THRIVING OF PLANTS AND TREES without presence of any beavers, completely self-sustainable and drought-proof. 1) In the end, all squares of the map must be green and covered with a plant/tree OR flooded. 2) Only thing left behind humans are rusty ruins. Only structure allowed to be left behind beavers is CHANNEL, LEVEE, DAM, FLOODGATE, WATERWHEEL, SHAFTS (as few as possible) WINDMILLS AND MECHANICAL PUMP. Nothing else is allowed 3) The system should be efficient enough to keep vegetation watered all cycle round, i.e. robust enough to buffer lack of water flow and wind to power pumps. 4) Terraforming is only allowed to build waterways and vertical shafts for mechanical pump snout. All the other changes should be undoable. Flatting out entire hills is unacceptable here. (tho satisfying in "normal way" of playing, I admit) 5) Multiculture is preffered (you have no idea how beautiful a mixed forest and a meadow of blueberries, sunflowers and wheat looks) 6) When a district is up and running and capable of facilitating the construction of necessary "natural infrastructure" within its reach, after completion of everything necessary all buildings need to be torn down and replaced with vegetation until the last building standing is the main one. After its deletion its footprint must be accesible by a forester from different district to be planted over. 7) Water network should prevent flooding. Trees dying from excess of water is a failure, too. 8) Bear in mind it is possible to end with absolutely no building. You can place the last main building and last forrester on platforms over a body of water and delete them when everything is done. I hope this approach gives you another goal to pursue in this wonderful game and again, kudos to the developers, who even in early access managed to create such an entertaining game which already allows using completely different philosophy. I'm genuinely excited to see what they come up with next. Stay hydrated!

Be sure to plan for a really tall dam enclosure that you can control the flow to keep water food production going. Dry seasons last like 20+ days which can dry out an entire voxel or two. The beaver clan you have has the advantage of water towers for irrigation and wind turbines for power.
@AbsalomIndustries2 жыл бұрын
I feel like making your way over to those deep water areas will be the ultimate goal for water storage. They never dry up and they've probably got more water than you can use which is why it takes so long for them to start flowing again.

Timberborn is just fundamentally so satisfying to manipulate, seeing everything dry out and then become green again, and seeing the green held in place only by your own clever engineering. My main problem with it at the moment is the lack of an end goal to work towards. I understand it's a 'create your own fun' kind of game but I struggle to go beyond a basic city without a reason to do so.

It's cheaty, but each work flag has 20 storage, and only costs a little time to build. Sometimes it's worth building a couple spare berry flags. When one gets full you can pause it and move the worker to another berry flag. Works for all the flags, but the gatherer flag is the most useful. Lets you delay building your warehouse until you've got your damn dam done, and farm and water working.

Yes, I would like if this season 4 will last long because it is fun to watch and see you build your ideas on that River spiral 🤟🤟
@Taolan84722 жыл бұрын
Helix map isn't as easy as it seems on hard mode. The water sources are deep wells around a small number of source blocks, so the flowing water takes a good amount of time to arrive. Ideally, now that you have the natural dam broken, you want to build a dam atop the waterfall just nearby and consider replacing your existing dams with platforms. Dynamite is essential here as most of the waterways are quite shallow.
@sebsafari2 жыл бұрын
Hey rce, I love the Timberborners vids! I noticed you kept swapping beavers out manually for the water pump, you should try using the priority for the water pump jobs. You could also use it to have a builders hut or hauling post and make that low priority so only unemployed beavers will be builders.

ITS BAAACK. Love how you already took "Hard" difficulty for granted. Keep in mind if you're going to expand your population you will want to maximize water storage so you can stop pumping to keep things growing during the droughts. They get as long as 27 days in hard. So keep in mind it's going to get progressively worse surprisingly fast. Your dams may only hold enough water for 14 days of growing at current capacity. That is assuming this parallel reality they've stumbled into is still in hardmode lol.

Started this same scenario and screwed up on my first 2 attempts - Attempt 1 all beavers died first drought because I didn't realise how quick it would come and had prioritised the wrong things. Attempt 2 all but one beaver died during first drought because they didn't harvest the bloody carrots and died of hunger. On attempt 3 and easily surviving 24+ day droughts with a nice mega dam and 2 levels of 6 pumps that can store enough water for over 20 days of water pumping and I keep the main river area watered with some water dumps if it is running low.

@mikeprior42022 жыл бұрын
RCE, you need to figure out how to prioritise the work allocation, although early on pausing and starting forces the beavers to move jobs. You need to damn the spiral and use your science to get the solid blocks and build a damn downstream from both of your current ones, much more water is held back. Then the big water storage is needed so you can survive the droughts. Then to ensure the farms stay green, you need to build into the river with blocks and create a single block water hole, which you place a water dump above. Occasionally turn on the water dump(set to high priority so a beaver will jump to the task when you need it) and a large farm area stays green near this even if the river dries up and cost you very little of the stored water….

I recommend you assume 4 water per beaver per day and if you don’t have enough, make a second district to just kill off the extras it’s not the most humane but it’s better then them all dying Also you can’t afford to build a shame vile everything needs a purpose Also water evaporates and you can clearly see it it in hard mode so not pumping has a little effect on the amount of water Also temporary centres for building are good like you build a storage on the edge for your current district make sure the new one has all the building resources and food and water and then temporary send beavers to that district just to build
