"to support continued development" isn't a consolation. It's a threat. "You will buy these if you want this game to keep existing" The moment I heard they cut the story mode it was clear they bit off more than they could chew. Im just glad we got a game of this quality for this style of play. Consol players got a taste of something fresh, and its going to have a lasting impact.

This can be entirely blamed on sellouts... Whoever came up with the idea didn't NEED to go public, they didn't NEED to accept being bought out, they didn't NEED to give up their IP as well, but they did, because they also only cared about money.

This is insane. Sandstorm is one of the best FPS experiences in last years. All of my folks on Playstation were extremely happy when they found this hidden gem and many console folks waited for native current gen version no less than all of us PC + Console players have been waiting for more updates, patches and even a sequel. There's a lot of tac and hardcore shooters but none does what Insurgency does best in it's own subgenre. Industry simply shouldn't lose such assets. I don't really know what to do. Of course I'll keep playing this game to dust but one day it's gonna be like "enough" because over the years you get full of same scenarios over and over again. Same with Titanfall that I used to play non-stop and now play occasionally and prolly one day I'll stop completely. I do understand the reasons and actually Embracer were one of a few big publishers that somehow managed to support medium and small studios without closing them and of course they face consequences. I only don't understand why didn't they sell the studio and franchise or at least let them go. IP eventually won't bring them much money yet they literally kill whole project. I hate the industry. Hands of big thieves are now reaching even medium-sized games and development. Soon we'll have only market-efficient Fortnite & CoD and all others can go to hell. What an awesome era...

This is why you don't let your company become too big. Also a reason why games that embrace and encourage their communities last the longest. Modding support and private, dedicated server hosting out of the box used to be the norm from the late-1990s up until very recently. Now the big execs see such practices as "risks", because it means they might have to "compete" against their own past products. Yes, making a mega successful single release that would allow the devs to retire young is no longer desirable according the big AAA publishers. They just want people to buy more NEW products, not stick with OLD ones.

God I really liked this game. I played the shit out of it. How many CoD games came out before they let you change the fucking firing rate on your gun? Like 10!? And they still don't have enough intelligence and awareness about how this shit actually works to know when you reload a neary ANY gun before shooting all the bullets in the mag, one stays in the chamber and you get an extra bullet along with a full mag. So many other little things that the devs at CoD are either too dumb to put in the game or think we are too dumb to know about. That's why I loved the detail of this game. I played it so much. I always knew it was the beginning of the end when the started putting ridiculously priced cosmetics in. But it's not the devs fault. I'll support them on whatever they do next.

Execs don't need technical experience but they need understanding and they should create an environment that supports the devs in achieving the vision for the game. If they have no care about the experience the devs create for the customers, then the money is primary, and that would lead to a divided culture soon enough. The quality of the product will go down and create negative sentiment, smothering them in the long view. It never works out differently if they go that route. They may keep standing but with no soul.

Execs don’t care. They answer only to investors. And their goal is to make as much profit as possible as quick as possible. They know it will most likely kill the company eventually, but they don’t care since they can just jump into the next thing. It’s a crazy world but we, the consumers, are no longer their customers. We are part of the product. The real clients are now the investment groups.

Look at e.g. Diablo 4, putting it on more platforms won't solve the problems caused by their lack of care. I hope you can persist and expand your team continuously, and actively keep the updates coming. I will continue making video introductions for OHD, aiming to transfer members from the Squad Chinese community. I see OHD as the hope for Squad veterans, and I also hope for Chinese language support to be implemented as soon as possible in the future.

Insurgency had so much extra potential, imagine how awesome it would have been with more guns, better AI and a lot of more maps. Unpopular opinion but the studio behind Ins2 was long gone even when Sandstorm just came out. Sandstorm had horrible direction in its lifespan and lacked the original mod theme, you can really tell it was made by different people and, most importantly, a publisher which vastly influenced their decisions.

This type of bs in the game industry should honestly be illegal. The only company I think uses micro transaction money to use for game development is Crytek on Hunt Showdown. Ever since they started pumping out cosmetics, we have been getting a crap ton more content and bug fixed than we have before. Seasonal events, normal events, both with a battlepasses for skins, more weapons, bigger and better maps, more bosses, etc. I love Hunt. My all time favorite game. I just hope they don’t go down this route at some point.

I know its such a small detail but when they removed the blood sprays on the walls(im not a pyscho i promise) i knew that was very bad. Later it came out they did it to try and expand the game to new players. You need to keep the game the way it is and UPGRADE IT not degrade. Very sad

This is why the latest Battlefield game launched in an abismal state too. After the huge succes of BF3 they continued to sack senior devs to cut costs to the point that no one was left that understood Frostbite to a degree to make basic UI and quality of life features. Features thet were present and worked in the previous installment became buggy or non existent as if Dice forgot how to do them. The funny part is they did. Devs and documentation are the memory. Also bad management leads to bad documentation so the issues compound.

Welcome to capitalism, where investors/shareholders control everything. In the past these people are ok with stable growth and letting companies really run everything. Since 2000s(or maybe 1990s) somehow, somewhere someone came up with an idea that a good portfolio is one that requires their investment to make X% profit from within Y timeframe and it is always better to take over and throw all the values of the entity/company they are investing in to maximise and hit/go over that X%.
