I purchased the Gesture 7 years ago and I’ve used it for 40-80 hours a week, every week since then. I cheaped out and didn’t get a headrest and it’s my biggest regret. I thought $200 would put me over so I didn’t get it. Every time I lean back and my head floats off the top, I realize my mistake. Chairs have a lot of objective qualities but many are subjective, and I find the gesture to be the best fit for me. Paired it with the rollerblade wheels for ease of rolling and the thing is amazing. The slight downward pitch of the seat pan is a mild annoyance of mine as well. The arms are probably my favorite feature. Only negative overall I’ve had is, - it developed a creaking noise when I lean or move back. Started about 2 years ago and haven’t gotten around to resolving it. I would buy this specific chair again, but with a headrest due to The warranty, absolute tank of build quality, arm rests being customizable, and overall comfort. I’ve done a lot of overtime in the chair and when I sit in something cheaper (like a Costco chair), I feel my back screaming at me. I wanted a “turnkey” chair and this one definitely is it. Highly recommended. I specifically don’t get a mesh chair because I didn’t like the feeling of them, and the potential for rips and sag. Amortizing the price over its lifespan, your back with thank you. Buying used could even be more valuable. If you work from home: BUY A GOOD CHAIR. Don’t fool yourself into thinking it’s not worth it.

Headrest is optional while herman miller models don't even offer them by default. Ergo is true to aligning your back in a chair so you not sitting in weird positions for to long which cause aches and pain for long sitting periods.

The main reason I chose the Leap over the Gesture chair was the armrests. On the Gesture, the armrests move up when you recline, which I found uncomfortable. In contrast, the Leap’s armrests stay aligned with the desk, offering better support. I also prefer the ‘hug’ feeling of the Leap-it feels more pronounced, whereas the Gesture’s backrest feels a bit more ‘open’ and less supportive. However, I have to admit that the headrest on the Gesture is far superior, and I’m disappointed that the Leap has such a strange design for its headrest.

I bought my Gesture last week. Best purchase ever. I've tried plenty of other high end chairs (other Steelcase, Herman Miller etc.) but nothing is more comfortable than the Gesture. I tried the Lamia you guys sell, but it wasn't for me. Felt really small, armrests didn't come up high enough and the seat pan was nearly as uncomfortable as the Secretlab I was looking to swap out. Gesture works amazing for me.

My wife has a Gesture I have a Leap, while I'm used to Leap we did a swap for a week and we both preferred the Leap. I don't get the hype around Gestures arms and overall the Gesture just isn't as comfortable. I think a big factor is we both move around in our chairs A LOT and the Leap seems to be designed with that solely in mind, the back rest and the whole chair just follows you everywhere. For me though, as you pointed out, the constant feeling of being pushed forward off the chair is the killer for me. It's still an 8/10 chair but for me the Leap is a 10/10 only held back by the gap that is present at the back if like me you need the seat slid all the way forward.

Love the leap v2, and with the upcoming headrest from atlas it should be the perfect chair.

I've had a Gesture without the headrest since 2018, I bought it from a store that closed during the 2020 crisis. Six years later, the seat foam has deteriorated so much that I can't sit for more than an hour without feeling pain, even in the back of my thighs. Over the past month, I've even gone as far as disassembling the entire chair and trying to fix it, without success. I'm a computer technician and use the chair for many hours a day, but I didn't expect it to degrade so quickly. It should also be noted that I use it an average of between 30 and 50 hours a week, depending on the week, so it has between 9,000 and 15,000 hours of use in just 6 years, which is impressive. The rest of the chair is almost perfect, I changed the wheels to roller blade-type ones three years ago, as on tiled floors, they're the most comfortable for me. The truth is, it’s an impressive chair and I would recommend it to anyone who weighs less than 100 kg. I've been considering buying a Leap with headrest and using the Gesture as a chair for visitors, but I love the Gesture's armrests, and I really don't like the Leap's headrest but I want one in the next chair. I'm also considering other mesh options like the Karman since I weigh almost 100kg, my legs, back and seat area get very hot while sitting, which might be contributing to the foam degrading faster and to the discomfort. However, I'm worried that being mesh it might be too firm, or that it might sag over time, or that the seat frame might dig into the back of my thighs. I miss that cloud-like feeling the Gesture gave me in its first years. By the way, thanks to the BTOD team for all the information, even though I haven't made a decision yet. It's a shame there are no stores where I live to try them out, and I cannot find foam seat replacements. 😥

You should still have 6 years left on your manufacturers warranty. And while the foam in the seat is considered "wear and tear" and thus shouldn't be covered, I've seen many people on Reddit who have reached out to Steelcase's customer service and have gotten a new seat. It's absolutely worth a shot!

Normally, yes, but without having a receipt after 6 years and two moves, and with the company that sold it to me having closed, I don't think Steelcase will take responsibility. Moreover, Steelcase doesn't even ship to where I currently live, they did ship to my previous address. So, a couple of years ago, I might have been able to do something, but now, without them providing service to where I live, it's even more difficult. 😥 Anyways I will try to contact them, thanks.

I really researched chairs for a month before Black Friday last bought and bought this one, brand new directly from Steelcase, I returned it because: 1. My butt would go to sleep between 45 and 60 minutes 2. The arm padding was just too thin 3. The headrest constantly needed to be readjusted throughout the day On a side note, the headrest (for lack of a better phrase) felt cheap - I've no doubt that the chair itself could last well beyond the warranty, but with the number of times I readjusted it daily over the course of the 30 day trial, I've little confidence that the headrest could / would last.

I bought a Gesture (with headrest) a couple of months ago. I knew after just 30 minutes that it was going back. The seat was just way too uncomfortable. At the same time I was also using an Embody Gaming, and I wasn't completely happy with it, which is why I tried out the Gesture. I ended up keeping the Embody and I absolutely love it! But there were some things that I did like about the Gesture more than the Embody. And some other things that stood out to me. The armrests are the most obvious one. The Embody's feel more comfortable (some Aloudy's make it a moot point) but the lack of adjustiblity is a head scratcher. The Gesture reclines a lot further, which really allows you to take advantage of the headrest. On the Embody, I don't feel a headrest is needed since you can't recline back far enough. The backs on both of the chairs are really nice, but the Embody's super flexibility is something I appreciate and something I sorely missed when using the Gesture. I got the Gesture in the Cogent fabric, and I got hot very quickly. The Sync fabric on the Embody feels nicer, and the copper infused cooling foam works very well to keep me cool! For reference, I'm 6'2, 175 pounds, and I've previously owned a Leap V2. The Leap and Gesture seat for me were some of the most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat on. And while the Embody's seat isn't the most comfortable, at least my butt doesn't go to sleep after just 30 minutes like it did with the Leap and the Gesture. I wish I would have tried the Fern too, but it was pretty damn cluttered in my house with the Embody and Gesture and their big boxes lol

As someone who has had the Gesture since it released, way back when, it still handily beats the Aeron (also having used since it released) and is basically just different upgrade from the Leap. The Aeron has far more problems with the seat cushion, even compared to other options. There is one flaw, however, and it is the armrests, but it has nothing to do with the angle (which is meaningless for elbow support). The tips of the arm rests are too 'sharp'. However, I easily remedied this with memory foam arm rest pads. $20 bucks on amazon, and it's really completes the chair.

I would love suggestions for a big and tall person. A lot of these chairs just are not my size. The cushions on the base on most of these do not look even close to supportive enough for a person my size for long hours at my desk. I currently have a Shaquille O'Neil Zephyrus Which I HAD thought was pretty comfortable as I was able to sit in one at Office Max. After a Few months of having it and sitting in it for longer than like 3hrs it just starts getting uncomfortable on my bottom as the base cushion looses a lot of the support after a couple hours. The size on the other hand I find almost perfect. The back rest height is where I want it. The arm rests are....garbage just like all the other similar arm rests I come across. Had to buy cushions for them. So I would be open to suggestions for a chairs that would support 350-450lbs of weight comfortably for at least a work day so 8hrs.

I don't know.. when I tried the gesture, literally everything was mediocre and as a whole the chair felt just uncomfortable. back, the curvature of the backrest, the armrest moved way too easy and felt cheap, and the seat also gave me pain all over my butt and upper thighs. and the headrest that I couldn't remove made the chair even worse. I always need a headrest but on the gesture it was so weird and just felt not right.

I just sat in the Gesture again this weekend, apparently Best Buy sells them. Still don't like it, only like the arms. Even my brother said he prefers his Leap over it by a lot. I know Steelcase watches these videos, I can't understand why they just wouldn't make a Leap with the Gesture headrest and arms. Easy layup chair that would crush their competition. 🤦‍♂ These companies will do everything except make what the hell people want I swear.

These chairs are not good for petite people, sure they'll fit, but they're just not made for them. I'm the average height and build for Europe and tried a Haworth Fern with a strong intention to buy it from the many online reviews I watched. When I saw it in real life I realized it's not made for me, it's way too bulky. I've stopped looking at american brands because they're made to accomodate people that are way bigger than me. My SO bought a danish chair that fits our build way better. In the future I'll probably look into asian chairs, japanese or high end chinese but I'm done with american brands

I'm 6'3 about 250, I'm a big guy, and I cannot find a chair that I like. I've had an embody for years but I just don't like it, I feel like it makes my back worse every day. I even tried an Anthros, but it was too small for me, I think I would've really liked it if the seat was bigger both wider and longer, the support was great but I'm too big to take advantage of it comfortably. The gesture seems decent but I'm worried about it feeling too narrow for my frame, same with the leap/ amia/ either combo. Does anyone have any suggestions?

@@Jacksonas I wonder about that as well, however the seat is so big and cushioned that I'm hopeful I won't even need to slide it forward, or at least I won't have to slide it far enough to where the gap is a problem. It also looks like it only slides forward a couple of inches, so maybe not enough to cause an issue. Years ago I tried the series 2 and I wasn't very impressed, although I don't remember much about it specifically. I sat in the leap once as well and same issue as everything else, the seat is just too small. I was thinking about the gesture, but the seat is barely wider than the anthros i had (20" vs 19.5") which was way too narrow for me. I don't think any of the steelcase chairs are right for me.
