Yeah that barn scene is worth it for the pay off. Gotta remember that everything in this anime has a good reason and/or payoff for it. It’s a show about growth. And nobody grows in a straight line, everyone goes through relapse and stumbles. It’s completely unrealistic for anyone to expect him to never do anything wrong on his way to improvement.

I forgot how bad the early days were. Rudeus has an immense amount of growth through the series, so it's weird to rewatch this and still think of him as the same person.

yeah season 2 has a single episode from him, with the confinement of you know who, and its not even that bad.

Skipped content about the book "The Legend of Perugius" (from vol. 2) "The Legend of Perugius. I had passed it off as nothing more than a fairytale, but it seemed it was a historical fact. Its contents could be summarized as thus: The Armored Dragon King Perugius. No one knew where he was born or raised. The oldest record of him came from his younger days before he was famous when the Dragon God Urupen dragged him along to the Adventurer’s Guild. He showed such strength that in no time, the Dragon God Urupen, the North God Kalman, and the Twin Emperors Migus and Gumis formed a party with him. They crushed every opponent they faced. Thanks in part to his brotherly bond with Urupen, Perugius was written into history as the Armored Dragon and as one of the five dragon commanders of the Dragon God. He displayed the magnificence of his powers in the battle against Laplace. Perugius made use of his greatest strength, summoning magic, to call forth twelve familiars: Void, Dark, Bright, Surge, Life, Violent Earthquake, Time, Roaring Thunder, Destruction, Insight, Insanity, and Atonement. These were the aliases of the strongest familiars, the ones he manipulated. With them, Perugius restored the old floating fortress Chaos Breaker and headed into the final battle against Laplace. Yet all that power was not enough to completely destroy the Demon God, forcing Perugius to settle for sealing him away instead. Still, the strength and imposing appearance of Chaos Breaker in the sky was enough for people to call him the Armored Dragon King. The Kingdom of Asura praised him for his achievements, and with the end of that war, proclaimed the start of a new era. This was the current era, the Armored Dragon Era. (Right now it is year 414 of the Armored Dragon Era.) The Armored Dragon King Perugius did not rule or reign over anything, he simply hovered over the world in his floating fortress Chaos Beaker. No one knew his true intentions. More importantly, it had been 400 years. Was the guy even still alive? Wasn’t it just an empty castle floating around in the sky now? That said, if the opportunity ever presented itself, I would be eager to check it out myself."

I think most people miss that, (this is very dumb logic, but it's his) he was already being punished by her all the time for trying to do the right thing and help her learn. She's vile to him in his opinion, so she deserves vileness in response. It's rightfully disturbing logic. Does it make sense though for this character? I buy it all as character work, and episode 7 pays it off beautifully.

4:00 they shoulda gotten BRIAN BLESSED to voice Sauros in the dub. 7:35 In one of the short stories, Eris pulled this same prank on him, except she knocked him out after he woke up. She took a peek and chased after him over a week out of getting embarrassed by the memory, while he had memory loss about the whole thing. And he's still seven himself. With 34 years of extra cognizance. 8:25 she's done this at least three times. When first meeting Paul and crew (sans Zenith), when the party broke up and she tried to go solo, and when she tried to get to Roa to find work. Eris found her starving and on the edge of consciousness about four years ago and gave Ghislaine her lunch. She's served the family ever since. The world has a concept of months, but it doesn't divide them into weeks. So there are no weekends. Rudeus introduced them for Eris' studies. 10:15 the sole authority in making those is actually Philip. A bit of a side hustle, since one of the products the province makes is a certain flower that can be concocted into perfumes and aphrodisiacs. And the merchant is hawking it to him as a gift for his dad, since Rudeus is obviously a noble and therefore likely has a rich father. Ten gold pieces is about seven grand. 10:35 He actually does write his notes in Japanese. It's explicitly noted in the book, but that was good thinking figuring it out in the anime even before they showed his scribblings. 14:15 the stuff isn't a knockout drug, it's a libido booster. It doesn't make you groggy or drunk, just very, VERY, VEEERRYYY horny. 16:40 if it makes you feel any better, the rest of Asuran nobility are no better than him. All of them are freaks. He's seven, and thankfully no object of his desire has been a second younger than his body; Sylphie's older than him by a few months. Yes, it's very weird to think about a seven-year-old as being lascivious, but nobody around him bats an eye about it, so what can you do except mald about it. 17:45 One angle to look at him is that he still hasn't fully internalized that his new life is "real." He's still treating it as a game in some sense. 22:50 Define "redeemed." He sets out to live his best life, not right wrongs of his previous life. At best he can heal traumas from his previous life, but that life's over and he can't redo it. All he can do is make himself the best possible man in this one. 27:25 what was Rudeus' intent? To grab a trophy, or to go further? Knowing him at that point, it would've been limited to just stealing her pantsu. It's more an indication of how short-sighted and coomer-brained he was at that point, since Eris would've hunted him down the moment she woke up anyway. The latter option is impossible, since Eris can easily overpower him and she'd wake up if he forced himself on her; resulting in his death. 29:25 Rudeus' road is long indeed. And that's what the viewers of the show and readers of the books are there for. 30:20 EXACT exact age? Eris is about 26-27 months older than Rudeus, since her birthday is 2-3 months before his and everyone counts her as being two years older than him. Placing this episode precisely on the year is tough, since Rudeus' birthday is around late November and Asura can have cold winters; so my educated guess is that this is around late December K414 (K stands for Koryuu, "Armored Dragon", as in Armored Dragon Calendar). Eris is solidly nine years old, and Rudeus had recently turned seven. 31:15 the filters are heavy, but I find it very well worth it to stick around.

Don't fall on the wrong way this story is never and never became a redemption story not for Rudy Is a story about empathy forgiveness and second and third chance for all the characters. People can change but never became perfect. You say Rudy is almost unforgiving. Paul rape Lilia cheating zenith and do more orribile things and dude before you end the 2 seasons I'm sure you can empathize with him so wait and watch because from now the series became better and unpredictable 🎉

Better not be skipping the intros and just be editing them out if needed for KZbin. They are part of the story. Every intro sets the location for the episode.

This was the early ish episode that nearly turned me from the series for good, but it took a trusted friend of mine to convince me to survive episode 6. The scene of Eris asleep is so disgusting and unnecessary. Even when I watch reactions, I skip the actual scene and wait to hear what the reactors think of it instead 😅 I always loved the merchant scene. Just how well it’s animated and directed, how it manipulates perspective shots at points- very welll done. And learning about the monetary systems so so fun to me, and Rudy does a really good job in teaching about money (funny enough😂😂). I love a series that loves itself to go all in on world building, lore, and magic. What a cool world/setting.

All that to say that dropping Mt at episode 6 is a completely understandable thing to do. People would whine, but people do that regardless. Y’all can think for yourselves but Graham was right at the end: Rudy has a lot of work to do and it’s rough at times. Don’t allow people to gaslight ya for your opinions. It’s a W series for real, but some things cannot be defended🤷🏼♂️ best of luck!

If it makes you feel any better about the barn scene, there's a short story by the author as a bonus pamphlet for the second volume where Eris pulls the same prank on Rudeus. She finds him asleep, thinks back on his antics and decides to give some payback. As she's about to draw down his drawls, he wakes up, they have a repeat of the staredown, and she knocks him back to sleep. She decides it's best to put his pants back on and retreat, but takes a peek under his undies right before she does. For the next week or so she gets embarrassed by remembering what she'd seen and chases after him, threatening to kick his ass. Rudeus has no memory of the incident, so he's left confused as to why she'd do this.

I'm a novel reading and in my opinion this is the worst thing Rudy does. What he did was clearly sexual assault however he never planed to R her or use the aphrodisiac on her. The reason I think the barn scene is important is to demonstrate how Rudy still sees people as NPC's and not people. He is like an addict where he is doing well but will relapse at times. I view Rudy as a child with the memories of his past life, he is going through all of the development of a normal child physically and emotionally but he also has what I would call the curse of his past memories that are jumbled up in there as well.
@LuminousArc9212 күн бұрын
he's physically a child but he's not a child at all. His mind, soul, personality, existence is an adult man piloting a childs body. Nothing about him has changed except for his physical shape. Don't get it twisted and don't lie to yourself and others

Yep this is in my opinion the worst scene in the series and I first thought it was unnecessary but the next episode proved me wrong, this anime does such a great job to not ignore the MC's problems 👌🏽

The title of this episode, “Roa no Kyuujitsu” is a reference to the Audrey Hepburn movie, “Roman Holiday” (in Japanese, “Roma no Kyuujitsu.”) Regarding Rudeus, IMO, the author is purposely showing his worse side from the very beginning, and we, as readers/viewers, can see his growth, albeit it’s quite slow. He has been a scumbag and perv for a large portion of his life, and it’s hard and unrealistic to turn himself around quickly. For some people, they may not have the tolerance for his actions, and will be completely turned off by his character. But I believe the story is realistic and mature, and in people’s lives, there are a lot of gray areas. We don’t get to see what’s really going on in people’s minds and we don’t get to see what people do in their privacy. For instance, there may be a prim and proper Prince of an English speaking country who participates in soirées that may have underaged girls. Oh, btw, Ghislaine, is pronounced Ghi-lain (no S sound), same as Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted sex offender and child sex trafficker, and partner in crime of Jeffrey Epstein, whose parties was attended by people like the incoming president of the United States.

Yup...one of the reason why I hate Rudeus.....No wonder his life take the worst possible way as he grow.
