So sweet to see Buggy "tend" to her work like a religion, with her dad, mom and even with her brothers.. for her age she knows a lot about life and the workings of a homestead.. Bravo parents for raising these sweet, responsible and sensible children.

The other day Buggie said “trespasser ” when in the high tunnel, and lookin at a bug. That is an indicator of a very complex cognitive process, even for a grownup! I was not surprised at this evidence of her intelligence. She is showing very complex and advanced verbal skills. It’s a delight for mom, dad, brothers to enjoy her now, and imagine what her future holds. I suspect this comes as no surprise to her family. I also suspect your boys are showing as advanced skills as their sister, but boys are often more quiet in talking than girls 😊

I have no homestead. At my age I never will. But, I love watching your family grow and thrive on yours. I respect the way you care for all the animals and how in return they provide delicious food for your family. Keep on keeping on and thanks for the glimpse into your life.

Soak it in the river rub it with sand and rinse, drag it over an old wooden gate stretching and pulling it, rub in beef tallow and salt when it’s slightly damp still. Keep massaging u til it is flexible, then roll and leave it to sweat in sun then rub again until it’s soft. Hey great job 😊

Years ago I watched my mother cure sheepskins but she used a pumice stone to break the fibre to cure. Don't know if it's the same for cow hide. She did not use chemicals cannot remember what she put on it to remove the membrane. The result was beautifully soft sheepskin rugs beside each bed.

Very interesting and I love that Brett worked side by side with you! I’m sure he learned a ton and will not only fill a bucket list item for him but will be a memory he will always have of when you both tanned that hide! Those sorts of memories come with time spent and working together …priceless memories! I think had you used a chemical solution to tan the hide it would have had you miss out on the time spent with Brett and showing him how a little hard work can make a difference! Our bodies were made to move and be used like that. God bless your entire family!🥰❤️🇨🇦🙏🏻🍁

When I used to tan hides, I used a 3D Shiatsu deep tissue massager. It was corded, but you can get cordless ones now. Mine was a waterproof one, because I bought it for tanning... Saves on joint pain immensely. I used to take 1 day for fleshing (flesher/scraper made from from a piece of flat iron, wrapped handle) 1 day for tanning solution & shiatsu 1 day for just shiatsu and cutting off frame.
