Thanks for showing that XML edit Vedui! I am sure there is a different edit that reenables the Fill and Remove tools. I will have a look at the XML next week when I build my new PC. I finally ordered the parts I needed to build me a new PC. Can't find a graphics card that is affordable yet, I will have to wait a wile for that.

Is there any way to copy&paste a base in alpha 20??? I build a big base with tons of details in creative in a nice location before recognizing that i only have this degenerate low life trader near by who threatens to cut my throat if i don't do this or that. I find this highly offensive and i want to move my base to a different trader. Or remove this trader entirely from the game and replace him with another one.

@@faustus106 You can build one in the POI editor, then save the base as a poi. You have to use dev mode to place the POI into the map though. I have made a bunch of my base designs like that and used them in survival on A19

@@Revenant483 Okey so i think i have figured it out now. I have to press Z to mark my base, export it, go into world editor, chose the right world i want to have it in, prezz Z again at the location, use POI browser to choose / place the building, look at the Arrow on top of the box of the building because the building placed is not WYSIWYG and i have to adjust the orientation with X. Save the world - Start a new game and find the same location in flight mode, holding shift and press Q to teleport forward until reached destination. THB here. Your "Use dev mode" wasn't much of a help to me. I figured out half of this by watching multiple tutorials and the other half by myself.

@@faustus106 Sorry, I kind of overly simplified my statement. I remember doing the exact same research. Back in A19 one could just edit the world.ini file and just replace one of the POIs with your own. Restart a new game and your base was just a matter of going to it in the world. If you do it that way you have to play with the x, y, z in the file to get the right placement. I have not messed with this in A20 because of way the RWG works. The old way was the RWG would just place POIs by name. Now it just uses a random set of POIs. You may find a way for it to work, and the cool thing is the terrain stuff like grass and random trash shows up if you make your POI using the right type of terrain.

you can also rotate blocks that don't allow it, allowing you to rotate turrets etc, onto the ceiling and walls, the line to change in blocks.xml is , change true to false. you made me remember a lot thanks again

Absolutely, you can. Some blocks do have issues, like turrets, due to the calculations possibly being messed up in some positions. This is why they're not enabled. :)

Someone in one of earlier alphas had a "mod", which allowed to use the K menu in game, in debugmode. Really handy, especially the clear and fill selections, or for example select some area and then upgrade all blocks within that area to some specific material level. Sadly there's no such mod for latest and last alpha, or at least I've not found one yet. But, thanks for this tip, this is useful.

I see a lot of Empirion in the way they have changed the building process, I still think that they should fully implement even if is just in DM mode, that would make map makers and POI architects a leg up and boy oh boy the door that would be open for creativity.

The poi that could be built would be insane. The things Vermillion ScriptHD and Spanj have have done for empyrion has added so much content to the game. 7Days would have it's own dedicated base builders that would build even more fantastic poi.

Personally, I am more interested in building than the rest of the game. If there were some good building tools, I'm sure I could do so much more. How about clear, fill, copy selection, paste selection, mirror copied selection... You could build one wall of a building, mirror it and place it on the other side. Copy rooms and paste them elsewhere, etc. It seems like relatively simple things to do for a programmer that would save hours and years of the lives of those building in creative mode. Already, there is some level of this (POI editor) that I just haven't found out about yet, but none of that seems to be in the game at all from what I am hearing.

From what some videos are showing, it looks like TFP aren't pro-modding, they tend to be doing nerfs and buffs and working against the playerbase in terms of meta and strategies in a game. They revamped the entire 'quality level' system to oblivion to focus on skill levels, but mainly to stop players from raising quality levels they can craft from spam crafting, which stops people shortcutting to late game stone axes and such lol. Then they made every zombie be able to dig underground, nerf corner poles, etc... Instead of creating content that can pose a threat to those meta strategies. Instead of nerfing impenetrable bases, they should have added in Special mobs that can dig, or Bandit enemies that attacks your base during the day and raids your item to steal back to their base (Human NPCs who has salvaging tools and able to dig into your base and steal your containers and then flee).

Yep!! I mean you can spend hours clearing an area or building a long wall or something. Or, you throw away some repair kits, throw away a few hundred concrete blocks, and just do it in 5 minutes and continue playing. Now I wish we could have NPC's do things like that, set up a blue print and they'd clear/build there, but sadly .. not yet! Maybe never!

By disabling and re-enabling the physics you can create a POI like the tower in the water works POI when you removed the pile of cement would collapse the tower at the beginning of in Crack-A-Book tower would collapse half of the helipad when you broke a roll of paper below.

@@Vedui42 they may have completely broken that tool. When I enabled it, there was an eyeball symbol and an 'options' menu came up in that spot. When I changed the icon for that line, the icon changed but it was the same options menu.

Very cool, thank you for the information. IMO TFP should give mod makers every tool available, as game mods benefit them and their game. Hell, thanks to mods, Skyrim is still played by huge numbers of people, and still appears on the best sellers list fairly regularly. Honestly, the last several years probably 80%, or more, of my playtime in 7D2D was playing mods, mainly Darkness Falls, as realistically Alpha 20 was the first update in years that has given me any interest in playing the vanilla game. Don’t get me wrong, I love 7D2D, and I think I have around 2,000 hours into it, and over the years I’ve been playing it I’ve bought probably a dozen other copies, for friends and such, but IMO many of the changes, mainly made years ago, changed the game for the worst, and thankfully Darkness Falls changes some of these things back. Khaine, and the others who make mods that are including in DF often just do a better job in implementing in game features, for example does anyone like the horrible green and restricted vision of vanilla night vision goggles? Well Khaine didn’t, and thus the NVGs in DF don’t narrow your vision, and instead f making everything bring green, they simply give much better night vision, with a faint hint of a red tint. As for a few examples of old changes that I, and many of the players miss are, Action skills that improve by by using that skill, so for example as you mine you gradually increase your mining skill (on top of any points you put into Miner 69er & Mother Load.) Another one is being able to combine 2 of the same weapons/tools in the workbench to repair and/or upgrade one of them. Third would be larger backpacks, as DF uses a 96 slot backpack. Another change I wish DF or vanilla would reverse, is to have 600 levels (or was it 500?) instead of 6, and weapons consisted of several parts, for example for the shotgun required, as I recall, a shotgun stock, shotgun parts, a shotgun receiver and a shotgun barrel (their were both long and short barrels available,) each part had it’s own quality level and when combined the quality and stats of the completed weapon was the average of the quality level of all it’s parts. You could loot full weapons, but far more often you simply looted parts of various weapons, and rather than scrapping or selling off low level weapons, or be stuck using them as you can’t find anything better, you could utilize the above mentioned combining items on the workbench to combine a handful of say, low level pistil barrels, into a single higher level pistol barrel (it’s not a huge increase, for example, two quality 100 barrels combined might come out as a single quality 108 barrel, or something like that. Yes, this took a bit of micro management to continually upgrade your weapons, but I REALLY enjoyed that mechanic, I’m not really sure why but it just seemed very realistic, as sure you could find high level weapons or armor, but more often than not, you instead just used what you found to repair and/or upgrade your weapons and armor, and it made weapons/armor progression much smoother, and not as reliant on getting lucky and having high quality level gear drop in loot.

RNG is way to ubiquitous in modern game development because it's great for padding playtime statistics for executives and is the easiest lazy solution for designers, and it's kind of pathetic how much of a crutch it's become. RNG is not a replacement for crafted content, and is great when limited to supplementary content, like feeding the crafting system you outlined. It can be grindy as well, but that's why you provide it as an option to supliment a completely independent and predictable crafting system that doesn't rely on RNG at all. You can add degradation onto it, for mats and components as well if it makes sense, but for the love of Mike, making looting the end all isn't really as compelling as looting AND crafting.

Is more ezy if you use commands fblock (code of block) after poztion x,y,z for exemple : fblock 0 2 5 3 🥴= fblock-comamds , O is code if block air , 2 is the width, 5 is the height and 3 is the the length.And all the time you have to face, the direction directed towards the North point as a command is always placed from North to Est, and if you look north it will be placed on the right side of you.

Hello Vedui, you made a base with only bars as pillars, because the zombies dont like to attack them. I didnt like that for my base, because it looks much to weak and like cheating (a bit like the floating blocks). But i now used it like this: 1 pillar with normal square blocks and bars at all 4 sides (you can add 4 very small pillars in the corners). I named this "Zombie Teeth and Finger Breakers :)

I haven't messed with them yet, but aren't the tools in the creative menu under the 'Dev' selection able to do the same thing as this? They're labeled as Level tool helpers with a + on one and a - on the other. If not, then what can they do? On a side note, why do they have the changeable key-binds in options for Clear/Fill, when you have to edit a file just to use them?

Hello! And no :) They can help with some situations, but they're more raising/lowering a spherical area. So they can be used if you wanna make holes or hills, but not nicely square cut out areas or flatness.

I suspect TFP disabled those for a good reason. Either it's somehow buggy or produce unstable/unreliable results. Perhaps the physics calculation on a big enough scale is crashing the game in survival or is even corrupting the world. Remember, these tools are experimental on an alpha game.

@@MajorOutage Not really though, because if they didn't further disable the fill option then the falling blocks wouldn't happen. It really doesn't make sense to hide things further than a debug toggle at all. Anyone who expects complete stability from options locked behind a debug menu only toggleable via console, and in an alpha no less, should check their expectations.

Not really. They've been hidden for a long time, and many people have been using them for years and never had issues. :) I've cleared huge areas, filled huge areas, and never had any problems. So hiding them due to being unstable is not a very good reason :)

11:16 im trying to open that file... what do i open it with? firstly mine doesnt say windows.xml it just says windows secondly i tried open it with xml editor and windows edge comes up and wants me to download it.. i specifically uninstalled it cos it keeps doing annoying things like popping up on its own while im doing other things its generally really annoying.. can i open these files in something else to edit it properly? when i click open with... these are the options it gives me: windows explorer, microsoft edge, microsoft word, notepad, wordpad, xml editor, search microsoft store, find another app - thanks for any help.. so far ive been building a huge base one block at a time and im getting rsi

Hello Kevin! Right click and open in notepad should work. I'd recommend googling notepad++ and installing it (free!) as it's much easier to work with. As you're right, by default windows like to open in edge etc and it annoys me. but notepad should work fine. :)

Hi Vedui, I have followed this guide and the other guides you've made regarding level tool. The problem I have is that I cannot make it show but I am currently playing with a mod, Darkness Falls. I have two 7D2D game files and tried to do the same to both of them and the level tools are still not showing. Can you help me out?

Ah, Khaine has extensively changed the UI, and that likely is preventing the level tool from showing up. In a nutshell, you make the edits, and then Khaine in his mod removes all the UI and inserts his own. While I haven't looked, it's possible if that if you go to his UI files in his modpack, you might be able to find the level tool and enable there. Maybe. Sorry, never tried!

@@Vedui42 I just want to get back to you to tell you that this absolutely worked. It's in the UI files. I manually installed the mod so it could be found under Mods>0-DarknessFallsCore>Config>XUi. Idk how it goes for the ModLauncher users but I think they would need to practically search for the same file folder. You can make/mention this in your videos with the disclaimer that it works for Darkness Falls. Thank you!

this is definitely not what was intended by this function xD. this is for texturing surfaces hence the 10% fill, however with them disabling the actual fill feature i think this method is the best with what we got and i love the vid. to elaborate.. let's say u make a concrete floor but want some of those broken tile textured concrete blocks now if u select the floor by clicking z1-z2 you can then fill 10% of that floor with said tiles with the broken texture. same with walls ect.

if this level editing thing isnt available without changing the xml how come the blue grid is still available? i keep accidentally pressing z and getting that blue grid come up... how do i activate the xml file? u didnt show that on the video... i wanted toi make an island in the sea... its taking forever to place one block at a time.. id like to know how to place tons of rock or concrete all in one go...

Hello Kevin. Yes I show how to edit the xml, but you're right it's not available without changing the xml, but they left in the blue box selection. Dumb right? There's really no reason for them to hide this, as enabling it causes no problems. :)

My world editor doesn't work properly and only spawns in some of the floor tile but not the rest of the prefab. So I want to add prefabs while I'm playing the game. The prefab looks complete while in world editor but only a small amount of the floor tiles change and the rest of the building is missing after loading into the game.

Hi Roberts. It can help when things are crashing down, due to physics checks. Sometimes it helps to disable when doing it, then recalculate, and re-enable, but sometimes it does not.

Hello! It works for alpha 20.5. The actual line number moves every time due to them making changes. Searching for leveltool is a good way to find it tho :)
