There really is no comparison between a fresh mangosteen and the many sold in supermarkets in the States that are way past their prime or were previously frozen. I’ve only had fresh ones in one State and that was Hawaii because they were grown locally. For it to really catch on with unfamiliar folks, it will need to be super fresh. The mess from the purple rind will be a whole other story.

Mangosteens are yummy and it's great for exporting countries... but I think it's much better to just eat local fruits. Come to tropical countries to eat the fruits here. They taste so much better.
@ReyOfLight4 күн бұрын
Indeed! Tropical fruits are never the same when having them imported, especially if you live in a colder area (Sweden in my case). I've had fruits like Longan and locally grown tangerines while in China, and it's not even comparable to the fruit I can find here in Sweden. I've also had locally grown bananas, monstera fruit and other locally grown exotic fruits while vacationing on Madeira, and again, just can't be compared... Locally grown tropical/exotic fruits are just far superior! You can have a lemon in Funchal (the main city of Madeira) and it will be more like what an imported orange is like in Sweden, and yes, you can pretty much eat a lemon like you would with an orange, when the lemon is locally grown and picked ripe off the tree instead of being picked too early and ripening in transport. I don't even like citrus much, other than tangerines, the occasional orange or orange juice with pulp, but when being in a place where it's grown locally, even a damn lemon tastes good!

As an American who grew up in a middle class household, I'm going to tell you what's about to happen: some dirty journalist or entrepreneur will claim these fruits are a 'super-food' and demand will skymissile. After Asian countries build up more infrastructure and build massive new farms to supply the new massive demand, then the fad will go away bankrupting lots of farmers in Asia. Don't blame the average American when this happens. Blame journalists since they're the ones who will fuel this fad and then bring it down. There is nothing more evil in America than the American journalist.

Irradiation is the process by which an object is exposed to radiation. An irradiator is a device used to expose an object to radiation, notably gamma radiation, for a variety of purposes. Irradiators may be used for sterilizing medical and pharmaceutical supplies, preserving foodstuffs, alteration of gemstone colors, studying radiation effects, eradicating insects through sterile male release programs, or calibrating thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs). The exposure can originate from various sources, including natural sources. Most frequently the term refers to ionizing radiation, and to a level of radiation that will serve a specific purpose, rather than radiation exposure to normal levels of background radiation. The term irradiation usually excludes the exposure to non-ionizing radiation, such as infrared, visible light, microwaves from cellular phones or electromagnetic waves emitted by radio and television receivers and power supplies. Surprisingly, this fruit is not very popular in south east Asia compare to other local fruits such as durians, mangos, bananas. Due to its sap, it’s messy and the injects (ants) come with, plus they dont keep well in the hot humid weather here and Rot in 4-5 days. Imported apples and oranges are sold in greater amount here compare to this.
