Can we just talk about what a positive role-model for boys and young men the 1989 Gillette man was? 1989 Gillette man was a loving father, a go-getter at work, a respected member of his community and enjoyed a healthy and active lifestyle. As a woman, this is the guy that I'd want in my life, and it's the guy that I'd want to see my son become. Can we *please* bring back these kinds of ads?

@@petersmithyy4556 Yet Gillette decided to demonize that same commerical in 2019 as from a "toxic" era of men nit being the best yet expecting the best from a razor company. It was such a slap in the face to their consumers. Labeling men as bullies, sexual harassers and misogynists. Why doesn't L'OREAL show all of the shitty things women do and ask "Are you REALLY worth it?" In a plea for women to "do better"? Because women aren't the ones being demonized in society as the source of all problems. I'm sure many abusive, manipukative and bitchy women use L'Oreal just as much as sexists, abusers, and harassers use Gillette. But no one ever wonders if women are worth it, if we deserve care, if we should "Stay happy" (Tagline of Always pads). These products fed into womens egos just like mens advertising. But now we're no longer allowed to actually market to men. We have to market to women to market to men or society is sexist. Ironically Gillette is the mist sexist company for thinking it can insult their male consumer base and get away with it. It

If you are an 80's kid, as a boy you felt the inspiration and responsibility that came with being a man. There was a feeling of wanting to be better. Agreed. As a guy when I just saw that 1st commercial for the 1st time that I can remember (maybe saw it as a child?) it hit me right in the feels, particularly the parts showing a father & son cause we're just about to have our 1st boy. I even said to myself mentally "I gotta make sure I save up & create a situation where I can pass down a car to him." It makes me want to be that guy, an ideal good husband, good father & a good man. A goal to strive for. The 2nd commercial did nothing but seriously piss me off & cause me to shut down regardless of their intention. What doesn't help is that I've also seen the entire long version of that commerical. "Boys will be boys" fathers say as they watch 2 boys fighting it out. While to some it might seem cruel to let them wrestle & duke it out, it is natural male behavior that has existed since before recorded history. We would break them up if it got out of hand or went on too long. When over we tell them "It is now done so be men & shake hands. Now it's in the past." If we as a society want to greatly reduce the out of line assholes with overinflated egos out there that can only think with their dick or behave like a dick, it is very simple. 1st we need positive strong male role models to look up to. We need good guys who show proper behavior, strong morals, self control, personal responsibility & accountability. 2nd, as a society we must allow those of us who can put these guys in their place to take care of them without risk of legal consequences. This was the accepted social norm till fairly recently. I remember just how shocked & then pissed my dad was when, in highschool, I beat the hell outta a guy who smacked my gf's ass. My dad wasn't reacting that way because of what I did. It was because the school suspended me for it. As an adult, if I take care of an asshole (which is the natural inclination of every good man,) I run the risk of a criminal record that could ruin my life.

@@Dang3rMouSe To yiur kast point, god for ud if that asshole was a female or identifed as a female despite being male. I see these limp wristed fuckers in videos and everytime they receive even the slighest push back for their outrageous behavior suddenly the people trying to prevent violence or harn to innocent parties are "transphobic" or "pigs" for daring to not allow them to be absolute assholes and do what they want. I have seen cases of good men stopping protestors from battering women and then be called nazi's and alt-right for preventing a bunch of men from beating the shit out of a woman over differences in opinion. No wonder man just sit back and do nothing anymore when seeing that stuff go down. Don't want to be accused of sexism or transphobia for protecting females. Might as well like these strong, independent wahman post up with Mr. Ma'am and see how far that goes. But good men do whats right regardless of the consequences. I know that. I know its hard being a good man when society punishes you for every single time. I'm sorry. But know that women like me exist. We don't believe that men are toxic, sexist, or privileged. You guys are our equal and opposite, you are stronger than me, I am more emotional that you. But we are both human beings. Being different doesn't mean being lesser or more than. But it does mean we need to work together. Women think they don't need to work with men, dome men think they don't need to work with women. But at the end of the day we need eachother for happy and healthy lives. As individuals and as a society. Men and women are equal m, they should never be identical.

I was a baby when that first ad came out. Loving, friendly, active and he still is. He never fell into the trap of “toxic masculinity”. And that’s how he raised my brother and I. Now we have to face a world where companies think that they’re part of the solution, when in reality, they’re part of the problem. I only use Gillette because I’m not big on changing things. Guess that ends today. How tone deaf has or society become?

My mom started crying when i brought it up to him over the phone a few minutes ago. I told him that my opinion of him has never changed but i would not buy him the razors now bc my opinion of them being the best has definitely changed.
