Mister Ed might very well be one of the most famous horses to ever trot across the Earth. The show that bears his namesake concerns his relationship with Wilbur his owner and the unique relationship that is shared between the two. You see, Mister Ed is no ordinary horse. He can talk and hold full-on conversations but only chooses to with Wilbur.
This unique situation sounds great but in reality, it causes Wilbur quite a bit of trouble. Not only does his wife question the amount of time that he spends with the horse and begin to feel neglected, but Mister Ed frequently ventures out his stable and causes Wilbur more than a few headaches and messes to clean up after.
Facts Verse is going to take a deeper look at the show that had one of the most infectious theme songs of all time. We didn't even have to sing it for it to be now stuck in your head, right? We'll delve into some of the more mysterious elements of the show. For example, did you know that there was more than one horse that went by Mr. Ed? And, did you know that there are 3 different theories how Mr. Ed died? Who the heck played his voice in the first place?
A horse is a horse of course of course
And no one can talk to a horse of course
That is of course unless the horse
Is the famous Mister Ed!
We apologize if that theme song is now stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Well, we're not too sorry, because it's now stuck in our heads too!
You aren't going to want to miss this video. We'll answer these questions and more and show you a side of Mr. Ed you've never seen before.

As a kid Mr Ed was one of my favorites! I was told the speaking was done by electric shock. At my age now I am happy to know it was not and that the horse was actually just that smart! He was a Beautiful animal. I was also a fan of Alan Young as he also played in other favorites like The Time Machine. Seeing interviews of him I felt he had a good Heart. When I was a kid my best (and sometimes only) friend was my Palamino. He was 3 and green broke when I got him, so we literally grew up together. We figured somethings about life together, we had a lot of fun and got into a lot of mischief. This may sound crazy but we shared thoughts, that horse new what I was thinking and I him. I have made a lot of friends in my 64 yrs. ... but none can or will ever rival the relationship that that Palamino and I shared.

My palomino was Sovereign. X he didn't like me at first, x chose the worst places to chuck me off with sudden mid air spins!. But we got to love each other! X I could take Him any where. We went to shows in a purple Piano van!. With no ramp. Everyone asked how I got Him I there. I just told Him to. X Put pony cubes x Hay in there!. He would do anything for a treat. X stole someone's Pork pie. Always looking for a snack!.

Knowing how many takes are required in filming and how uncomfortable some situations would have been for Mr. Harvester, I always thought that horse displayed immense patience on that show. I could tell Mr. Young and he liked each other, as Young seemed to read Ed's moods, such as telling him not to look away while he was talking. he'd confidently tug on Ed's harness, something a skittish actor wouldn't automatically do. And Ed went right along with Young's direction.

I am not sure how Mr. Ed died, but I do know where he is buried! Many years ago I was grading for a new street, Glade Ave., in Chatsworth California. We were right up against the property line of a small ranch when the owner of said ranch ran up to where we were working, screaming for us to STOP. He stated, "You are about to dig him up." We asked who and he replied, "Mr. Ed." He is buried outside the The Harvester Barn, in Chatsworth, CA, at 34 15' 28.15" N by 118 36' 29.57" W.

I loved the "Mr. Ed" TV series, but, of course, I love horses especially Palaminos. The show was iconic in its time period and hilarious. The writer of the series was very creative. I believe that Mr. Ed probably dies from old age based on the illnesses that older horses can have. He certainly was not only a beautiful horse, but smart. He reminds me of Trigger owned by Roy Rogers.

I read the book about Allen and Mr. Ed. Ed was loved by everyone who worked with him. If Ed refused to work they would leave him to rest. The leading lady had a close friendship with him as well. Allen tells the story of how Ed pooped in the pool during one of the scenes and instead of refusing to fall into the water Allen went ahead and finished the scene to save everyone from having to stay any longer to reshoot. Funny stuff.

I tell the story of meeting Mr Ed around 1970. My dad found out he was boarded a couple of miles away, outside of Grass Valley CA. He was really tall, taller than the horses I would ride at summer camp. The stable owner told us Mr Ed spoke because his mouth was irritated with a wire during filming. I’ve never thought it could be a horse other than the star of Mr Ed. Someone could have told my father a story, or maybe this was the horse used for the opening shot. I met Charles Schulz the same year, who was obviously suffering from what I thought was a disappointing life. I was only 12. I preferred meeting Mr Ed.

I think he was old and declining, but that he got colic and passed. That fits with all the stories. Arthritic, kidney problems, thrashing around and given being euthanized. I don't know about vet practices in those days, but nobody tranquilizes horses for colic symptoms (excessive rolling in pain due to gut problems) but dying a few hours after the vet's treatment still happens. Colic in horses can be caused by different things, an upset stomach, a blockage, or a twist. And if it was a blockage or twist, it would have been fatal. Most of the time blockages can be fixed by tubing oil into the stomach and then walking the horse for as long as it takes for it to work its way through- but even then, it sometimes doesn't work. A twist almost always requires surgery. Both can kill a horse in the matter of hours
