Ok, there are so many different directions they can go. Although I love Shepherd, the Ryder twins never truly got a chance to really be known. Now a new character would be fair or a child of Shepherd or a clone would work too, since he/her was face to face with a clone. However remember Shepherd was basically rebuild and brought back to life in part 2.

SORRY, but I'm thinking it would be best to let Oldman Shepherd be a thing and let a new character take over or finish the Ryder twins arc in a mini game or DLC. Now bring in a new Character to solve it all. Plus if they use Shepherd, there is a lot of plot holes needed to be filled in, with a new character or the Ryder twins would be great too. But I guess we'll find out when it drops.

Yup and Miranda survives and is seen helping the alliance. She could do it again with plenty of Reaper tech just laying around all over earth. This is one thing I really, really hope happens. The Perfect Ending happens. Shep destroys the Reapers and lives. Wakes up and gasps for air. The alliance recover Shep. Miranda “repairs” the damage, adding some [now safe] Reaper upgrades. But Shep is now much closer to being something akin to a cyborg, resulting in some awesome new abilities, classes and augments. Not to much superhero levels of strength and endurance. Ultimately, perhaps even a new kind of cybernetic soldier, one we might be able to customise in multiplayer.

Also, there was probably an abundance of technological breakthroughs with stasis chambers, not only through the Andromeda Initiative, but also with the discovery of the Prothean stasis pods on Ilos, and again in ME3 with Javik's working stasis pod, which survived for 50,000 years.

Honestly, if the game is set so far in the future where Shep would have already died of old age, id prefer we just get a new MC, since most of Mass Effect is Shepards bonds with his crew. [At least to me] I don't think I could play with a clear head if my best boy Garrus is up at the bar chilling while Shepard is making him wait.

Liara was supposed to be a young adult in the original trilogy however, so the wrinkles wouldn't make much sense for a character that was supposed to be the equivalent of a human in their early to mid twenties. It's far more likely that the character design tweak was intentional & meant to convey to the viewer that there has been a serious passage of time. Also the teaser trailer potentially hints at ties to the Andromeda galaxy which would also require a few centuries to have passed since the events of ME3. Shepard is more cyborg than man (or woman) by ME3 as well, and considering the damage they received in the finale there might be some additional cybernetic bits. It's possible that all those cybernetic upgrades have given them a lifespan far beyond a normal human.

They dug themselves in a hole with the shitty way they handled 3 EA is partly to blame for rushing them, the reason why they dragged us off to Andromeda in the first place, was to get away from the mess they created. Instead of giving us the Leviathan DLC, they should have gone back to their Dark Energy plot (their original planned ending, not double down on the mess they created).

exactly, i can't imagine playing Shepard without Tali (i romanced her in all my playthroughs) and ma boy Garrus.I would rather they just making ME4 with completely new characters in that case. Mass Effect is not Shepard, is the hole crew, without them is not the same. That was clear in Andromeda, it was good... but not the same. The magic of the game was how much we got to love each character and that was what invested us soooo hard into those beautiful games and stories. I just hope they do justice to the original trilogy and don't leave us with just a hole in our chest

I don't think Liara's "wrinkles" is an indicative of time lapse. I think it's just enhanced graphics engine. Look at Samara, Benezia and Aethyta: they are matriarchs and have no wrinkles. If you play the remastered trilogy, you'll notice they added a lot of "wrinkles" on Liara. What gives me more notion of time are the dead reapers bodies, as well as Shepard's armor. You think the reapers and the armor would be still like that, for so long, under such a bad weather? Plus, after a couple of centuries they'd still be on the surface? I don't think so. I think it's right after the war with the reapers.

I think the fact that the Reaper corpses are still laying around, not to mention the N7 visor piece, actually makes it look like it will be relatively soon after the end of Me 3.

My bet for the timeframe is 20-40 ish years later. Long enough for the galaxy to repair or find a way around the relays for interstellar travel, and not so long that original trilogy characters will still be around.

I totally agree. I just really hope they bring Shepard back because destroy ending was canon. And towards the end of Mass Effect 3 we can see the crew fly off to a different planet and crash land. But they fix it up and later we see them blast off. They could've blasted off to save shepard and save him from the rubble. So many theories, we can go on and on

There are also the Stasis pods that the Protheans had. Through the Javik DLC, it is shown that they learn how to open them without killing the occupant. No reason why Liara couldn't learn how to repair and reactivate one. There are plenty of Pods left on Ilos to salvage.

@@AnonimatosTM maybe she froze him until she’s able to save him. At this point he’s basically an undead cyborg with significant physical enhancements. We see him gasp for air and so it’s implied he continues living. I think it’s reasonable to assume he’s dying from mortal injuries at that point. Cerberus was able to raise him from the dead at considerable price and effort, but they are now destroyed. It may take time to recreate something as cutting edge as the Lazarus Project.

@@jimmybeans1175 I understand that what i meant is, in the destroy ending ( the only one where shepard survives) the mass relays are essencially destroyed, the catalyst says they can be repaired but that would take time, by the time any fleets can reach de citadel again, either by repairing the relay or use other FTL methods. shepard would either have already recovered from his injuries or die from it. Besides its implied that the crucible wouldnt just destroy the reapers but the geth aswell, meaning they are not reaper especific. One could argue that shepard's cybernetics would fail him aswell, just like an EMP.

If you import an existing character, 1) it allows you to keep the appearance and 2) past games generate a code that you can copy to use to easily generate that appearance again. Also wanna point out that not all people create a male Shep. I prefer FemShep because Jennifer Hale's voice acting is superior to Mark "Monotone" Meer.

I'd hate a lot to see that Shepard wakes up just to find that everyone is dead due to age, including the loving-one (unless you chose Liara), however, that would be super depressing to Sheppard, who has seen many friends/allies die along the war with the reapers. I hope ME4 doesn't go that way.

If you think about it like this: In the last scene with the stargazer and the kid, the kid ask if the stargazer can tell another story of the Shepard and he says "okey, one more story" or something like that, and maybe that is the story we get in Mass Effect 4, hopefully 🤷‍♀️

The issue with them doing it hundreds of years in the future is unless you romanced Liara then it takes away that whole connection and set up for the first 3 games by having the person or persons you romanced and wanted your Shepard to be with now dead I think many fans would not be happy about that.

Legend or not, you're a cruel person to not want Shepard to live, because there is one threat that Shepard needs to live to deal with, and that is the Leviathans. They try to enslave all races again with their mind controlling abilities, remember? If you think they'll behave, you're naive, I don't trust them, especially since they used to enslave all life in the Milky Way, chances are they are trying to regain their dominance by any means necessary. And for the record, Shepard is 31 years old around Mass Effect 3. He/She would have been 33 if he/she hadn't died two years before Mass Effect 2, Shepard was canonically born in 2154, one year before Joker's birth. So yeah, this legend is not exactly young.

That means nothing was left out in Shepard's journey in the Mass Effect Trilogy. Look at the Mass Effect world from the perspective of the characters in the game, not as a gamer for once. Past events have only happened one way as time moves forward, like here in real life. In the distant future of the Mass Effect universe, If Shepard (and Ryder in Andromeda) did this a long time ago, they did not, and cannot go back in time and do something different, Shepard and Ryder's decisions are forever cemented in history whether people thousands of years into the future remember it all in great detail or not. As a gamer, if you reset the game and do things differently, the characters in the game are not aware that you have reset time and playing events out differently, because from their point of view, nothing has changed, time is progressing forward without going back in time and changing history, and Shepard (You) don't really have the power to change fates like a god, but choose what detour to best take as the car you are driving moves down the highway.

Given what they told us the conflict is inevitable. They've waited millions of years and they want their galaxy back.

Liara has wrinkles in ME3. That and higher fidelity graphics/CG tech may just mean there's lines now where there weren't before. A time skip feels like a lazy thing for them to lean on again. I prefer to take a "keep it simple, stupid" take on the next game and will assume it's a direct sequel to ME3 until there's reason to believe it really isn't. That may also be a little hopium from me.

@@MrHulthen the wrinkles thing is a bit iffy... I've seen for myself what people are talking about and I don't disagree. I also think everything in that teaser was probably meaningful/symbolic. Here's a question for you: Do you think the "mystery" about the timing of the next game is good for the community or do you think BioWare should clarify ASAP to not allow people's hopes for something else to get too high? I think they'll ride the mystery as long as possible. Over a year later people are still talking about that teaser trailer which is free marketing and hype.

So far i haven't gotten a response from anyone at Bioware, so i'm taking it that they're gonna let us speculate as much as possible. I haven't seen anything that would make Bioware panic such as leaks or the like, and i try to make it as apparent as possible that my own videos are just speculation, so there's probably no reason for Bioware to rush out information just yet.

The downed Reapers don’t have to imply that Destroy is canon. We take down a couple ourselves and it could just be the corpse of one. Also, Shepard off-handedly comments that humans are lucky to live to 150. Meaning by the first ME they’ve already more than doubled our life expectancy. And, given Shepard has already come back from being spaced (throw it out the airlock!), I don’t see how anyone could even question them being able to bring us back. Listen, clearly the Crucible activated the Conduit on the Citadel allowing Shepard to go back to Ilos before the Citadel exploded. Shepard finds a sleeping pod in the Prothean ruins and go's sleepy time for 600 years until the Andromeda initiative creates a mega mass relay with remnant tech to jump back to the milkyway. However, the same relay gets used by the kett to invade the milkyway galaxy. And of course to make matters worse the Leviathans have come out of hiding now that the reapers are gone and are using the Batarians as their willing thralls to carry out their orders. Like stealing Shepards sleeping pod from Ilos and keeping it deep within Batarian space. Then obviously as Liara is the shadow broker she will eventually find out about this 600 years later and needs help of the new playable character and their crew to pull off a heist to get Shepard's sleeping pod back. I'd go into more detail but honestly it's all so obvious that I feel like there's no point.

I call it again the so called unknown "icy" planet is most likely Alchera why? Simply because when Liara is smiling you can see at least 2 of its moons of Alchera (Alchera has three moons: Uluru, Wandjina, and Baiame.) I think there are over looked details in the ME3. Shepard never dies in any outcome. Its only believed he does. In the destroy ending, we see a breif moment of him taking another breath. His implants are fried but hes still alive. In the control ending, his physical body is destroyed but his mind remains intact. He has the resources to construct a 100% synthetic or even a cloned body and resurrect himself. In the synthesis ending, his genetic code is broken down and spread across the galaxy. He has been reborn. Its only a small step from there to speculate on his resurrection. ME4 could be the search for Shepard. In the destroy ending, you must hunt down the people who found him and have been keeping him. In the control and synthesis ending, you have to help him resurrect. Now, the game can either make the return of Shepard the entire focus of the game or make it the introduction.

Since Andromeda I’ve always figured a Shepard clone would be on the missing Turian arc, and the Angaran reincarnation ritual would bring Shep’s memories back to the new Shep clone (maybe the one from ME2 after Cerberus collected him and cryogenically froze him for an arc). I don’t think Shepard will be back but more likely The hybrid Asari Shepard-T’soni. Given her role she most likely gave up her contact with her child early in life. Only to watch as the child grew and trained. This would also allow the timeline to become more prolonged since andromeda was 600 years past. Making liara between 7/800ish. I remember something about just needing to have mated once and can reproduce later when the asari hit the matriarchal cycle of life. Why a lot of “fathers” referenced are dead long before birth. If it is shepards kid this would make him/her 100-200 years old at the time the arks arrived in andromeda.

Truthfully, what probably prevents shepard from dying is Liara’s attachment to him, in my first play through I didn’t romance liara but she still ended up being one of, if not the best friend I had (garrus unfortunately died in the suicide mission my first time through) but she was the one who found him/her after they got spaced and as she said herself, she was mourning them for the two years they were dead with cerberus, not to mention the moment you get with her before the final push to the beam in priority: earth, where if you aren’t romancing her, she locks arms with shep and puts her head on their shoulder. So I’m a firm believer that shep isn’t allowed to die because liara can’t let them, but I can’t blame her, you just gotta think shep’s getting too old for this and how the dead should be left to rest.

One way to(maybe) explain that is, the Citadel is a mass relay and he/she got shot across the galaxy when it activated, along with a bunch of debris. It is shown that people can go through the relays in something as small as the Mako so there can't be much if anything needed to protect people from the experience. I think it is the relays that create the mass effect tunnel linking to the other relay(maybe?). I also don't think the first people to activate the relays each cycle would have much in the way of mass effect tech. I don't know/remember the lore about the requirements of relay activation, do you need mass effect tech or not, can you accidently activate one(probably, things happen when you poke the unknown) ect..

That could be true, like the omega relay As to the Mako not surviving that may have more to do with entry and exit speed matching added to the lack of space to stop, regardless , the people surviving is the point I was more focused on. See also that Seran may have just walked through the planet side mass relay and was still himself up till the reaper burned the organic part of him away upon death. Now that I think about it, is the small relay "statue" as it was thought to be the same relay that was meant to bring the Reapers in from dark space or is the Citadel itself a relay as well. I feel i need to remind everyone, that after sheppard was brought back, it was pointed out that reaper tech, or at least some implants and cybernetics based on reaper tech, was used in their reconstruction. So we have no clue how much of an impact that would have on sheppards death, or survival, or even sheppards lifespan. There are theories that said implants gave resistance or immunity to indoctrination, as well as the reverse. There's really no way to tell, until someone confirms it, at least before the game releases.

The fact that Liara seem to have wrinkles (not age-wrinkles rather those along the line of "laugh-lines" and such, where the skin wrinkles when expressing emotions), well, doesn't indicate that she's aged, rather, that BioWare have made progress on their game engine usage and perhaps made for better facial animations? Also, is Liara really walking on a dead reaper? Since, even the small pincher-structures that makes up the region where the reaper contacts the ground is building-sized, with a full sized reaper about 6 modern U.S. Aircraft carriers stacked end-to-end. However he might survive, if he would be rescued, let's say 600 years after the final battle in ME3, then it would be the toughest experience he ever witnessed. He wouldn't feel that 600 years passed. Imagine being waking up hundreds years later just to get to know that almost everybody you knew, are dead. Not dead for 1-2 years. They are all dead for centuries. Of course, Liara and presumably Grunt are live. And if Shepard would romance Liara, then he of course be sad and gutted, but, he would have the women he loves next to him. But what if Shepard romanced let's say Tali. Just imagine the pain of this dude, when he realised that she is dead for centuries. The same thing goes with your friends. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to bring Shepard to life in that case. He probably would be mentally destroyed and wouldn't be able to focus on his new duties. I mean, would you be focus? If i would be waked up hundred years later and someone would tell me that everyone i knew are dead and person who i love so much is dead either, i wouldn't be able to really find a purpose to live anymore. It would be too painful.

This I can get behind. I really don't like the idea of Shepard returning, but making him/her like a Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi kind of scenario where because of the sheer pain of waking several hundred years in the future he became hopeless and wandered off in isolation would be a masterful way of bringing him/her back and telling a new story. He/she would just not be what people expected he/she to be, and this gives me good vibes, since I really liked Luke's portrayal in The Last Jedi. This idea has potential for a great story.

That is a possibility; in terms of cryostasis. The Cerberus project to revive Shepard used DNA from his original body preserved in cryostatis to reconstruct it at the molecular level. What also could have been a canon ending is the Control Ending. Think About it. That dead reaper could have been leftover from the wars and not destroyed upon the destroy ending, but before the ending took place. Shepard's Body may be lifeless in this ending (found in the control center inside the station), but it could be preserved and repaired by using data from the original Cerberus Project to revive him, but then obtain a copy from the reapers of his original brain patterns from before his integration; therefore a version of him could still act as the Catalyst and the other version could be used to fully revive Shepard in a corporeal form. With the Citadel DLC being canon, it might also be possible that the remains of clone Shepard could be used for the DNA. The Geth also have parts of Shepard within their frame of existence and could piece together his brain patterns from Legion's residual consciousness that lives within every Geth. Another piece of evidence from the previous games is that the Destroy ending is for Renegade Shepard only based on lore markers. In all other games, Shepard could have a canon paragon ending which would be realized in the next game to be connected without cease. To basically make the canon ending Renegade only for this game would make a paragon Shepard Player outraged at the developers. Shepard in paragon, befriends the Geth in the 2nd game and helps them co-exist with the quarians in the 3rd game. If Shepard were to still destroy the reapers in the destroy ending he would be committing Genocide against the entire Geth race, not to mention plunging all intelligent organic life into a dark age without Geth/Reaper technology to a degree as in that ending, the Station is destroyed and all technology connected to them is fried or severely damaged, making interstellar travel impossible without repairing the mass relays and the lack of technology therefore regresses civilization thousands of years before the harvest of this latest cycle. It also doesn't prevent the clash of technology and organics that the Catalyst warned would be the result of Shepard destroying the Reapers as part of the Destroy Ending.

It's also possible one of Shepard's clones is brought out of cryo. Cerberus could have had several "backup" Shepard clones, just like the one we saw in the ME3 Citadel DLC. It would be an interesting take, everyone thinking you are the legendary shepard, your old squad mates seeing you again, but having to grasp with the fact that you aren't the real commander shepard. It would put some explanation as to why you have to "level up" all over again and potentially have different morals to the "original" shepard.

I don’t think this canonises destroy ending at all. The reaper is dead because it could have been defeated before the crucible, or maybe the galaxy itself is under attack once again and the reapers are “disabled”; or maybe Shepard turned them off when their job was over in control ending. The narrative are plenty with what was given with the ending. I doubt Shepard is coming back. Very likely to be just symbolism about N7 programme and individuals that programme represents.

Though, I still lean towards showing what they're doing on this snow planet is just part of a teaser and not actually related to the story, other than possible foreshadowing as to a setup of like you mentioned, the cryo sleep, where he's been put on ice. Like maybe she's smiling because he's currently on ice and/or being woken up, and she's remembering the good times they had, or smiling knowing Shepard's still alive and she has him in a cryosleep until they can repair him. I prefer the idea of them just taking his DNA and recreating his mind, memories, etc., then implanting that into a braindead host, that in all other ways is perfectly healthy, which could possibly be another species of life indigenous to the Milky Way. That way you could have Shepard voiced by Mark Meer/Jennifer Hale but also create a new character that's say, Batarian, or Quarian, or Asari, or whatever. And if you prefer you could have the original Human Shepard instead.

I would like this if liara and others were trying to remake Shepard but the original host and Shepards consciousness are there and the struggle is either them finding peace with one another to become one individual.

Plausible. And I think it can be taken as a given that Shepard comes back now. Not just because of the original poster publishing message, but also because Bioware would be stupid not to listen to their fan base in that point. BTW: A jump into the far future is not really needed. Although the conduit basically said that the destruction ending would destroy all technology, we've seen ships including the Normandy doing quite well after that, so he probably intentionally or not left out relevant details. So Shepard being quickly searched for, treated, and the story being continued almost from where we left off (add a few years for Shepard healing plus some necessary rebuild throughout the milky way to avoid walking through ruins for a whole game) would work, too, with the big advantage that all of our beloved crew would be alive. ... I wonder if they tie in Andromeda, e.g. what happened before the scourge with the remnant being present. Some mass effect relay rebuilding should do. ... Can't wait to see what they come up with.

I still have the theory that if Shepards mind got uploaded into the reapers with the combined knowledge of vast abouts of others cultures they probably have a way to create a body and download his mind back into it and he might have turned off hte reapers when they were no longer needed.

I'm still hoping that ME 4 *isn't* hundreds of years in the future. I'd much rather see the new game take place closer to after the end of the Reaper war, so we can see the races working to rebuild in the aftermath of all that destruction. This of course would make it possible to use most of, if not all, the surviving characters from the original trilogy. Either as guest appearances or as squad characters again, especially if Shepard ends up being the protagonist again. That said, I'd be ok if Shepard wasn't the protagonist, as long as he/she makes an appearance at some point, assuming you can port your old saves over or go through a selection process for the major choices throughout the game.

Fascinating. I haven't played Andromeda in years so I'd forgotten about Liara being in contact with Alec and being aware of the Andromeda initiative... and even before Andromeda, Shepard's crew became aware of cryostasis technology during the original trilogy by way of the Protheans - the stasis pods on Ilos and Javik, who survived after 50,000 years. Anyway, I love your videos, you and BigDanGaming have completely reinvigorated my love for the series. Thank you for taking so much of your time to share with us fans.

Assuming that the 4th game actually takes your Mass Effect 3 end-game choice into account, I could envision Shepard "surviving" in other ways regarding the control or symbiosis endings: cloning. We know from the Citadel DLC that cloning Shepard is entirely possible. And while the original will always be superior to the knockoff, it's still a viable option for Shepard to be in the game and playable even if they were assimilated. Perhaps someone found Cerberus' cloning facility and tried making a copy of the galaxy's greatest hero (Shepard) exactly as the original was in life, rather than just being a ruthless warrior who wanted to cause trouble and kill the original. Going this route could give some unique dialogue and story perspectives: _we_ know that they're not the real Shepard, and perhaps he/she will seem a little off to the OG crew who're trying to figure out what the hell is going on here (in both cases of control/sybiosis, Shepard's body is assimilated, meaning that there would be no corpse to determine whether or not said Shepard had died, so they might initially assume that Shepard survived somehow, but some oddities in how Shepard talks and the like, plus the recollection of the Shepard clone attack, could make them a little wary). All the while, the clone could be trying to figure themselves out as well, living with the real Shepard's memories and general personality and mannerisms. It's something to consider, at least.

I really hope they don't bring Shepard back Shep has done enough for the galaxy they deserve a peaceful retirement with their lover and hanging out with their crewmates when they come to visit not waking up to find most of the crewmates and probably their love interest dead then having to fight wherever the next Mass Effect big bad is.

Personally I would like to continue more with the twins, I think Shepard deserves a break, including him as a supporting character would be great but as a main character again... I don't know I would like to see him like we saw Hackett in ME3 as a superior of the alliance or the twins or something like that

Liara with wrinkles? I mean barely, clutching at straws a bit there. If Shep somehow survived hundreds of years into the future, it could be explained by all the upgrades Ceberus did to him, it could have slowed his ageing down.

I stand by my earlier points - Liara does have smile-wrinkles in ME1-ME3. This is especially noticable in Legendary Edition. I don’t think (and hope) that much time must have passed.

The Frozen shepard is good Theory because in ME3 we can find out that when shepard was brought back to life in ME2 the body created new protein which nobody know what was it .It would be cool if that protein somehow retain shepard Alive Frozen. Sorry for the language I am from Slovakia.

Mass effect one lira was only 105 and spans 3 games with Shepard. Let’s say the new mass effect takes place during andromeda that would put her at 707 years thus giving her wrinkles. Now I think Shepard was not Shepard in 2 and 3 because he seems different what if his original body was stored in Cerberus but they put his mind in a clone. Liara is looking for his real body.
