We have a ‘98 Avalon along with some new vehicles and find ourselves holding into the old girl as it’s just so comfortable to rack mikes up in amd so well built. It is like driving in a cloud. It has held up great, looks really good still and with studded snow tires has never missed a beat in northern Michigan winters. This gen of Toyota cars and trucks have such a good blend of build quality and reliability.

I live in New Zealand and purchased an Australian-made first generation, year 2000 Avalon earlier this year. It had been looked after well by its first owners. While they are a little bland to look at, these vehicles are great value for money and extremely reliable.

In 1999, I bought a used 1995 Toyota Avalon XLS with 57,000 miles and the bench seat. Even with those miles, it was indistinguishable from new. They always say don’t buy a first year model, but ours had only 1 issue (a bad sensor, certainly not Toyota’s fault) in the 3 years we owned it.
@andregonsalvez92442 жыл бұрын
Great review ! These Avalons were simply a stretched Toyota Camry . The Avalon were very comfortable and reliable and were good sellers for Toyota . I still prefer my mid to full-sized domestic RWD cars like the Cutlass Supreme and Caprice Classics over the FWD Toyota and domestic FWD cars .

I own a first gen Avalon, and it's a great car. They aren't just reliable, they're incredibly easy to service: I was able to pull the entire drivetrain in my garage in roughly seven hours. (The previous owner had neglected the car. She still drove fine despite the amount of wear)

i just bought a '99 Avalon, a bit beaten, but with the drivetrain still very strong, unbowed, at 220,000 miles. Worth saving, I am likely going to put more into restoring the body than I paid for it. Other than a few lights, the electronics all still work fine. A very comfortable car to drive, with plenty of power for the Chicago region 75 mph tollway Sprawl. I have always held Toyota in high regard. When I was a kid, it was the first foreign car I had been introduced to, by a college age mentor. He had a Corolla (this was around 1974) and I was impressed by the sensible interior and styling (why the heck didn't any American sedans have something as basic as a tachometer standard?) And my best friend has owned nothing but Toyota trucks for 30 plus years (his wife drives a 15 year old Camry, in fine condition). But I tended to like sporty, and have owned a couple of Hondas. Good, but not as durable. I really didn't know a whole lot about the Avalon until I got this one, and was pleased to find this story, among others, as I figure out what to do next with this car.
