That 30 Montaigne is BEAUTIFUL. It looks very timeless to me, but you definitely know more about luxury bags than I do. If I could afford one, I wouldn't care if it was a "good investment" or not because I would likely keep it forever. I've been absolutely smitten with it since the first time you showed it to us. Sophie ❤😘 this was a really good informative video x I don't think investment bags are about making money, but not losing it. I always see it as: if you bought a bag for say $2000 and sold it for $1800, then that bag really cost you $200 to have. If I then compare other brands where I could have bought a $200 bag, like say Oroton (Aus), Coach, Michael Kors, CK..., ie. not a luxury brand, too me, it makes sense to buy a top lux brand for $200 than lesser brands. And im happy to have spent the few hundred after all... I am using it n would have spent that amount anyway. That's how I approach it.
@abbyluxemburg89684 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly! And for the price of a MK, Kate Spade, Coach you can purchase a authentic Louis Vuitton from Japan sellers on ebay! I love your approach and it's a smart way to look at it, plus you get the instore experience.

I'm a power seller on Vestaire and a handbag lover. I've sold a lot of bags because something else has come out that I want and often stores don't have return policies. By selling bags you do lose some money on most designers. I'm trying to limit what I buy per year and not sell as many because the seller fees kill me. That's why a lot of bags are being sold higher on VC. I usually sell on both eBay and VC simultaneously and usually I sell for less on eBay bc the fees are a little lower. This is a really helpful video. It's good food for thought. I also find with bags, sometimes a style or functionality doesn't best suit your life, especially if you're a city person. Straps too short, zipper configuration etc.

This is really great advice, but being concerned about keeping the bag in good condition for resale sounds like a lot of work. I use my bags comfortably --- I don't worry if my bag's corners get worn as normal wear and tear, or if a few drops of rain falls on it. I just buy extremely select few, and use them for at least a decade.

I'm intrigued by the Puzzle bag in a neutral color, and it is often touted as an investment bag. However, I have to wonder if it is over-hyped. I think LV also has some great examples for this like the Pochette Metis and the Palm Spring Mini. I bought the pochette metis back in 2016 and sold it in 2017 with zero loss to a friend, I could've made profit if I sold it elsewhere. Limited edition LV like the Supreme collection, the prism keepall and the union jack also do EXTREMELY well in the resell market. Not sure I agree with the Chanel LE bags, even if they're sought after during release I highly doubt someone would pay a premium for it a couple of years on. Hermes has amazing resell value especially in Asian countries, I sold a brand new Kelly for almost double retail and that's standard resell price.

If i could afford it I’d buy the Dior book tote bag in the original navy version just because i really love how it looks. Not everything has to be about reselling value and investment. And you shouldn’t stop yourself from buying an item just because it’s trendy and everybody has it! Tbh how many times do trends go out of style and come back 10yrs later? Look at dad sneakers, nobody expected them to make a comeback yet it did, full force!

Hi! Here I do not agree with you. VC takes big commission and the point that Chanel is great investment bag and you can get your money back is not true, unless you keep it for 5 years. Example: you buy now Chanel ML for 4800 eur, and you want to sell it in one year, when price is already 5200, you still need to put the price which is at least 20% lower, because 10-12% lower you can get it new with tax free for instance ( CDG airport has all the classics in black caviar with 12% “tax discount”), and bag should be in pristine condition, so we come to the price 4200 eur (but as you said does not mean, that people will quickly buy it with this price). Out of this 4200 VC will take at least around 1000, and you get 3200. Loss 4800-3200=1600 euros (even with rrp price increase of 1 year). It is too much to pay if you did a wrong choice and bought bag because it “holds its value”, rather than you love it and it suits your life style. The only thing I can agree is to buy trendy bag preloved and then sell it in 6 months perspective, loosing like 100-200 euros. But still better just buy and get a lot of use out of the bag, rather than buying bags, that bloggers recommend to buy due to resale value. Bloggers have their platform and do not need to pay commissions of sites like VC.

We were wandering around Selfridges on the 20th May. Not one bag in the downstairs areas appealed to us, not one! Not even Dior had a pretty, desirable bag - it was drabsville. The Miu Miu table looked like a bring and buy sale from 6 years ago and don't get me started on the way bags are displayed in the main hall. The Pat McGrath massive studio installation is, in my opinion, in the wrong place. I cling to my old collection of bags: Chanel bamboo logo CC bags; Gucci Bohemia collection, with the dancing rabbits; many of the different coloured nylon Prada Gauffre bags (the gorgeous plaited handles) ; a Prada mountain bag that was based on a bottle carrier; Louis Vuitton watercolour collection bags and several Gucci Indy Bags which are still looking immaculate today! My Dior patent leather bags with silver balls on the bottom handles... These are bags I'd buy again today.

Hi, I don't understand how selling a bag and MAYBE getting the money you've paid back is an investment? It's very rare to make a profit out of this, you'll either get less than what you've paid or the same amount back (which is again, pretty rare). How is this comparable to stocks and bonds in any form? I'm just curious
@SophieShohetOfficial5 жыл бұрын
Hey Shruti, thank you for watching and for your question! When I say ‘investment’, I mean it in a different way to property or gold etc etc. But the money it costs to buy these bags is a lot, and I’m just sharing my strategy for minimising loss when you find you own a bag that you don’t want to use anymore and can’t sell for much either 😊 Certain brands can and do sell for more than the price paid originally, so you can get it to work 😊👌🏽xx😘😘💖💖

In your calculation you forget that sites like vestiare collective want a massive comission of around 25%. So if you invest in a bag you need to find a buyer by yourself without a third party comission and that's quite hard.

@The_Sova5 жыл бұрын
@@abbyl1449 NO. Because, lady Dior is so expensive just because it says Dior on it. Don't want to hurt anybody's feelings, but the bag looks a lot like inflatable one, that can be used at the beach. Rather small, and the zippers make it even less practical. Same as in Antigona small/mini versions. If I'm to spend thousands of euros on a bag, I want it practical. Bag has it's utilitarian purpose. If it doesn't fill it - not gonna waste my hard earned money on it. I buy a bag to wear it, to use it, not to look at it.
