I have been to KL 5 times as 2/3 day stopovers to get to other places in Malaysia and it is my favourite city and Bangkok is my second favourite city that I have travelled to. And Krabi is my favourite place in Thailand too. Bukit Bitang is thriving at night and even though I'm not into shopping malls they are great places especially when you want to escape the heat and humidity during the day. KL is definitely more diverse as well
@TwinkleNotty2 жыл бұрын
Krabi used to be part of the 5 Malay states before the Bangkok Treaty in 1909 between the Siamese and the British. After that the people there were ruled by the Siamese till this day.

Yes we agree 😍 we love KL and also Bangkok!! There’s so much going on and the food scene is incredible! The shopping malls in KL are so good and there’s so much choice when it comes to everything!! We loved staying in Bukit Bintang, definitely the best place to walk around and be amongst it all 😊 Krabi is also very beautiful, we just love Thailand in general so it’s hard to choose haha 😅

Hi guys! _Selamat datang,_ Welcome to KL/malaysia 😊 Yeah indeed you nailed it when pronouncing the word _peranakan,_ it usually refers to the culture and group of descendants of mixed marriage between the local malays and chinese who came from china in the old days for work and businesses around the country, many of whom settled down in the state of _melaka_ (during british rule in the country prior to our independence it was called and spelt malacca). They are also popularly known as _baba & nyonya_ (baba for the males, nyonya for the females). In terms of food for eg there are many similarities with the actual traditional malay food, like the _roti jala_ you had. _Jala_ is a malay word for net, due to the roti being riddled with holes resembling a net. However, for malays _roti jala_ is akin to the british sconce, we traditionally have them for breakfast or tea or late night supper, instead of as a main meal ie lunch/dinner. Clothing too, the peranakans embraced some of the traditional malay fashion, especially the women's _baju kebaya_ which has a unique style. Anyway, hope you two continue to have a delightfully exciting experience throughout your exploration of malaysia. Take care! 👍
@geoandbert14542 жыл бұрын
Wow thank you so much for all the information!! Thank you, I’m so glad we said peranakan correctly 🙈 This is so interesting and we really enjoyed learning about the mix of cultures and the old traditions/food of Malaysia. So happy we could try some traditional food. Excited to try some more local food 😍 Thanks for watching and for informative comment 🤗🙏🏽
@nutzhazel2 жыл бұрын
@@geoandbert1454 A little bit of additional information, Peranakan were around when Malacca became the famous sea port that connected Eastern and Western route where Arabs and Chinese traders conducted their trade in the 13th century. Other than the Chinese traders, the Arabs also started to reside in Malacca and were also responsible for bringing Islam to the region. Most Arabs trader's descendents today resides in the Southern state of Johor following the downfall of Malacca when Portuguese attacked the port in the 16th century. There's also descendents of Portuguese mixed locals still resides in Malacca today called Serani or Kristang (shorten for Christians). The Dutch came later in the 17th century and attacked Portuguese and took over the port, but the Dutch mainly took control of Java and Sumatra island. The British came later in the 18th century, and also attacked the Dutch for control of Malacca port. But they endup having a treaty where they divided the region between 2 separate countries known today as Malaysia and Indonesia. As someone from the southern state where the old Johor kingdom covered south of Sumatra and Singapore, my dad's family were descendents of the Java tribe from Sumatra island that fled to Tanah Melayu (old name for Peninsula Malaysia), during Dutch colonization of Sumatra. So it's also pretty common for people from southern state of Malaysia to be Javanese mixed local descendents 😊

Just my 2 cents... If you looking for a Malay food, go to malay shop. Indian food, go to Indian shop, Chinese food, go to Chinese shop. Surely you can have it in any shop but the taste is more kinda fusion - Malaysian food. Even the pranakan Chinese has a similar taste to the malays but definitely there is a different in term of the ingredients/ cooking style between them.
