You could have an excuse for running an LNWR train from the north via the West London line. As late as 1961 there were excursions to the south coast from the London Midland region. I had a nice trip in a train of LMS stock with a class 5 to Eastbourne. The clean black 4-6-0 and its red coaches looked splendid as the front of the train could be seen on the curve just north of the tunnel at Lewes. The train picked up passengers at the old main line platform at Willesden Junction.

Race day special locos departing light engine to Lewes. It is not often you see authentic train movements like that in model form. Thank you for all the effort of putting this on line. It is like being at an excellent exhibition with a comfortable chair and tipple of your choice in hand. It is very much appreciated. One train movement that set me wondering was the empty horse boxes from bay platform to the up lay-by. I know on a real railway the up lay-by would be more than long enough for both the horse box train and the passenger stock from the up race special. I was just wondering if the horse boxes might not be left all day in the bay to allow time for cleaning, they are going to be needed at the end of the day for reloading after all. I know it is the sort of decision that would be down to the whim of the local station master and the train crew, so what really happened is often lost in the mists of time. From a comment in an earlier video the bay siding seems to otherwise not be in regular use?

Firstly thank you for your kind comments. It's been 10 years of enjoyment/relaxation/frustration etc building the layout, but it is now very nearly finished! Your question about the horse boxes is interesting. In reality there wasn't a bay platform at Plumpton, so horses would have been either unloaded on the passenger platform, or perhaps in the goods yard and walked across the barrow crossing. Either way, the horse boxes would have ended up in the laybys, or perhaps taken back to Lewes. In the case of our model, the reason for shunting them into the layby is a bit more practical - they would have got in the way of the videoing of the rest of the sequence!

Hi Barry, Just a question are you P O wagons kits or scratch built John
@barryluck16253 жыл бұрын
Hello John, all of the PO coal wagons are kits from various sources - mostly plastic (Cambrian, Slaters) with a few white metal (Chatham, Tavender). The Cambrian wagons (I think) were mostly pre-lettered, and the others use POWsides lettering. I hope that's helpful. Virtually all the LBSC wagons are scratch, except for the brakes which are a mix of kit and scratch. Barry

@@barryluck1625 Thank you, did you letter the Hall&co wagons yourself. Also although I model LNWR I do want a couple of LBSC engines. I may order a Richmond class, I see that you have a Begravia (I think) was it difficult to do in P4.

Yes, the Hall & Co's are are hand lettered Slaters kits. They are nearly 40 years old, predating easily available transfers. As far as locos are concerned, there is a Gladstone kit, but not, I think a Richmond? I don't have a Belgravia, but do have an unmade kit which I'm looking to sell (it's too early for my period).

@@barryluck1625 Hi Barry, EB models do a Richmond class, it would seem that the Gladstone is not available at the moment. Ps Nice layout and full of interest John
