So great thank you! Wondering if this in general is stating that we can’t control our thoughts and feelings sometimes but once we recognize and become aware of these survival feelings and thoughts to see that they are not real threats, then instead of trying to get rid of them or find a way out we just disregard them and not pay much attention to it. For me this seems to have helped, it seems so easy. If we just become aware of the thoughts and feelings and then say to ourselves .. ‘ this is just my brains habit or worrying about this perceived threat that’s not real’ then they fade away, I am still ‘ recovering ‘ and for me the thoughts and feelings still come quite often but they also go very quickly when I practice this and truly tune into it realize it’s just another ‘ wave ‘ of anxiety or fear due to habit forming worry and that it will pass as long as I don’t take it seriously - once I allow myself to become aware and Accept them for what they are which is a ‘fake threat’ that I don’t actually need to worry about. I hope this makes sense! Your teachings have allowed me to find this place of acceptance through education and practice, hoping the more I practice the less the thoughts and feelings will come but at least I know deep down that there is no real threat so it fades quickly.

Control versus letting go of control. Letting go of control takes courage. Whew! Lots of it!

Also, what if watching your channel has become the “fix”? That “doing something”. Is that me making an effort?

Yes, courage is so helpful in this journey, and it takes courage to leave the attempts to have control… which watching the channel can become. The inner compass will tell you you’re watching to learn and find hope/inspiration or as an attempt to achieve sleep or calm

That’s the big question - how do we deal with the friction between the brain keeping us awake to “protect” us and wanting so much to just let go and enjoy peaceful sleep?

Case in point! Yes Laurie, this is a question about something that really matters, and as Tim said, the answer lies in the first principle 🙂

Hey Daniel, I’ve lately been struggling with overheating at night. It’s winter in NZ so it’s actually cold but for some reason my whole body heats up as soon as I get into bed, it’s like an association thing, and I can’t sleep when that happens. Any tips?

Hi, you know of course we can make the environment comfortable for us, but often feeling hot is part of anxiety and the more we go towards understanding this and accepting what we don’t control, things get easier
