Be careful of west of Sendai, in Niigata. Niigata station and Yuzawa-Gara station on the Jots Shinkansen line to Tokyo, there are japanese sake vending machines. Last time I went there, it was 500 yen for 5 coins. You get a cup and there were 100 different sakes (with a board of the top 10 most popular ones). Each shot is 1 coin.

Whenever you get back to Tokyo, definitely check out the AMAZING Taiyaki place in Asakusa just north of Sensouji-temple. Lots of YT videos have highlighted it (Paolo in Tokyo too), but it was absolutely fantastic. Definitely worth checking out whenever you're back there. It is literally 20 feet down the street from the Onigiri restaurant (which is also amazing, as you know). :-)

@@OnePackWanderers No problem😊It's also something some high end restaurants does. While serving expensive dinner, they also offers much more affordable breakfast/brunch/lunch sets. Wagyu places, fish gourmet places, sukiyaki places, tempura..... A huge price difference between special lunch sets and their regular dinner menu. Maybe worth a looking into. 🥩 I remember some expensive tempura shops have affordable Ten-don at lunch. Chicken cuisine place selling Oyakodon at lunch. Sukiyaki place and fish restaurant that sells lunch sets...... etc I don't quite know how to search that in English though.... But I believe there are still a lot of those good deals around.

@@OnePackWanderers for example, *Shinjyuku Kappou NAKAJIMA, a Michelin restaurant. Dinner is ¥11,000. But lunch sets are at around ¥1,000. *Tensyu tempura in Kyoto, its dinner set is ¥6,800, and lunch Tendon are from ¥1,350 to ¥1,950. *Tokyo's Kyoubashimatsuwa fish cuisine, dinner are at ¥6,600, Lunch set at ¥1,500.

The al dente texture is the best part of Gyutan. It is why Gyutan is special. The thickness of Gyutan varies from dish to dish, place to place. It's not necessarily the thicker the better, while it does alters the texture. Thick cut beef tongue is a selling point after all. Gyutan is also a very popular cut in yakiniku places. And one should also be aware of the difference between thin cuts and thick cuts when ordering.
@OnePackWanderers
@OnePackWanderers Жыл бұрын
What’s the difference between the cuts? 🙂
@mthsu
@mthsu Жыл бұрын
@@OnePackWanderers They are often from different ends of the tongue. And it results in the thin cut from the front being more al dente in texture. And the thick cut being more tender with more fat. Thin cut can be a little crunchy. And took less time to grill on a yakiniku grill. After all, it is not which is better, but which you prefer. 😋 BTW, Grain-fed beef will give you more fat. So if you enjoy fattier, more fragrance. you can also noted to choose grain-fed ones if possible.
@mthsu
@mthsu Жыл бұрын
@@OnePackWanderers And then when you moving up from beef tongue. Make sure to try more yakiniku parts! 😁 You can try out ハラミHarami, which is beef diaphragm. diaphragm is also just muscle so it's not too different to usual meat but some think its more fragrant. Then of course the ホルモンhorumon, if you are comfortable of trying out the organs, those are the delicacy.
