I've been watching a bunch of videos about this and you are the only guy that actually explains the right way to do it, instead of just showing pics of some rusty part and the whole dashboard taken apart.

Thank you so much for the video. Been helping my girlfriend get hers running after sitting for 8 plus years. Rebuilt throttle body, changed clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. Then, front brakes locked up. Put on new brake calipers and new rubber hose on one side, finally she got to drive it to gas station. While waiting on her to get gas, heater core started leaking in floor board, so this will be our next project. Thanks again.

This video probably saved my life. My truck was dropped off yesterday, and someone had already started to take out the heater core, and all they kept saying was, "I think we can get to it this way," and you did exactly what they were trying to tell me. I'll be doing that in a few hours now.

You are the Man!!! I had to by-pass my heater core about 2 months ago, I couldn't drive my 92 S10 5 miles & there would be a puddle of antifreeze in the floorboard so I by-passed the heater core. Now I have a long day tomorrow, my heater core & evaporator core came in today so I have to replace both because of leaks. Thank you for the easy part, but there is no easy way to replace the evap-core, plus it is suppose to be in the 90s today. Guess I'll start early in the morn before it gets to hot. Good luck to all & let's keep the S10 nation rolling 1st or 2nd gen. Personally I prefer the square bodies, but to each their own. Stay safe, Peace, Love, & Happiness to All.

9:09--"Oh yeah, pieces breaking off, that's good!" The pieces he referred to are visible very briefly at 9:09 in the video where you can see the third screw hole on the top right that he broke. In order to remove this screw correctly, you HAVE to unbolt the dash to get a little room. It IS do-able. If this screw is intact in your dash, you will not be able to remove the plastic piece from the bottom without loosening the dash, most of the dash. This sixth screw is why all the other videos are actually correct when they indicate the dash must be loosened.

This video, while it gave me the confidence to try this project. Even though I ended up completing it in the long run, it was way hard and very frustrating. Long story short I ended up ruining the first new part, had to cut the plastic on the enclosure to get the 2nd new part in and tore my hands up multiple times getting it back together. Even though it's back together the plastic didn't actually go back together because I would have had to take the front back off and cut it somewhere because the only way to get the straps back on was with the core maybe 3-5mm to the passenger side of how to should rest. this meant that part of the front piece rides on the core, preventing the plastic from seating all the way down near the door. I may yet take it apart one last time and cut the plastic more to see if I can get a better seal around the side. Very frustrating doing the job but your video is accurate as to pulling the old one out.

The easiest heater core I have ever done was a 1971 Ford Galaxie. It is at the back of the engine compartment on the very top. Pull the two hoses off, which is real easy, pull 8 or 10 little screws and pull the metal cover off the top, and pull the heater core out of the box..I done my 88 S10 several years ago and it is no picnic.I pulled the end of the dash loose and back just a bit to keep from breaking things, like you did.

Doing one today. We bought a clunker and saw that the water lines had been looped. I couldn't find the nipples on the firewall. Thanks! Wobble suggestion... Use a flat blade screwdriver stuck in the back of the socket..wide enough to catch opposite corners of the drive (about 1/4 wide?) it will flop enough to go around corners and still torque. Use tape to keep from losing the socket.
