Fun fact about the "energy healing" with the mystic hands masseuse: back in '98 an 11 year old kid created a test with just a piece of science fair carboard, with two holes to stick your hands thorough, that was able to prove that these guys were just BS (she asked if if they could tell which of their hands she was hovering her hand over and the low amount of correct answers proved that they were just guessing) and the whole thing got published in a peer-reviewed medical journal

SmugAlana the thing about psychics asking really vague questions when trying to "talk to the dead" it's a technique called "cold reading" where they ask intentionally vague questions at a broad audience so that anything they ask could apply to multiple people and make it look like they have "psychic powers" but in reality they're just taking advantage of really desperate and gullible people looking for closure and answers. south park did an episode about cold reading and those shows where the host could contact the dead the episode is called the biggest douche in the universe and it's season 6

The most infuriating part of this show to me is the psychedelics episode. The thing is, a lot of very serious medical research is currently being put into the application of psychedelics and their usage in treating conditions like PTSD, and there is real hope that these methods could change people’s lives for the better if used under carefully controlled circumstances. But people like Gwyneth promoting this sort of pseudo-scientific nonsense around them and using it as an excuse to get high are just going to create a backlash of the same sort of conservative fearmongering that have delayed research into these treatments for so long.
@grand_tourist468 ай бұрын
I had to Ctrl-F to see if someone already mentioned this point. Suffice to say, I'm glad someone did. Yes, the use of psychedelics in controlled therapy sessions has genuinely turned peoples' lives around. Honestly, the fact that it's even brought up in this show makes me think they're simply coasting off the legitimate research and the results thereof. And it IS disgusting when you consider the repercussions a mistake could have. The field could be set back decades, and the people who could see very real benefits from such treatment now might not last until then otherwise. Leave this kind of thing to people who even marginally know what the hell it is they're doing, because Paltro and Goop clearly do not. In fact, I think Jontron might be doing the practice as a whole a disservice (albeit not one as serious as Paltro and Goop are by dabbling with it in the first place) by all but dismissing it out of hand. In the right hands, these substances can work wonders on a person's mental health and even save lives.

It results in actors thinking that they should weigh in on everything even if they know literally nothing about it. I am not sure what the water temp is but there is cold water training for super cold water to help you not gasp. Because people do from the shock. And it can drown them. Like even I have gasped before filling my wet suit. But I was never under water doing it. Always floating on the top when I pull the suit down to let the water flow in. And of course the water is like cold through the suit. But when you flood it to get the layer between your suit and you. Shit is freezing. Also to be clear. You would defiantly die if you were in like 40 degree water for an extended time. For your blood PH to be around 7.4 you have to be around 98. And if all the buffers and everything in your blood goes to shit... and your blood shifts off the 7.4 much your are defiantly going to die. And I think 40 degree water is to much drain on your body temp to keep you around 98. And of course your body can go down. But when people say peoples bodies are shutting down. Thats their blood fucking up. I mean you can defiantly die above freezing if you are exposed long enough to something that can rapidly drain heat like water. Also the gasp is just like chattering teeth. Your body is doing things just to move to generate heat. So that dude is crazy if he thinks he can overcome the cold. But if he is getting into really cold water and not move around and the water is calm. The heat loss won't be bad. Which is why wet suits exits. Unlike dry suits you are filling them with water just to have a water buffer. So if he is keeping calm and not moving it would not be as good as a wet suit that won't let the water move around at all but it would be a lot better than moving any.

as an ACTUAL DROOLING LUNATIC PSYCHOPATH THAT WANTS TO BE ONE WITH THE SPIRIT OF THE MUSHROOM, I take huge offense to this shows' presumptive perspective, wow.

7 degrees is the temp of a regular fridge. It's cold, but very manageable

These people make doing some shrooms look like such a shit activity. Some lay around feeling weirdness when they could be having fun on them. If you’re tripping and at least don’t go out and walk to explore around some you’re doing it wrong.

I'm convinced Californians are the aristocrats of today. These people jump into cold water and it's a life altering experience, whereas i pulled my buddy half dead out of a river in winter because he fell in on his way to make 3$ an hour changing oil to afford food for his little brother while he was in HIGH SCHOOL. It's like old nobles freaking out that they fell off a horse and forcing 7yr old coal miners to carry them home.

We need to bring justice back to Goop! How dare these pseudo science people bring shame to one of the most solid alien choices Ben has in Alien Force!

10,000 children? That's quite the dream. Good luck with that and to the lucky man you attempt this venture with but try not to be too disappointed if you max out around 40 or so. Best of luck to you and your partner.
