Dan Bing (what you called egg crepes) are such a good meal, snack, whenever. We often ate it for breakfast with some hot soy milk soup, similar to what you had in Hong Kong if I remember correctly. Sometimes they also wrap those long fried dough (yao tal) in them also for some crunch. We make a version of that with flour tortilla here in Chicago all the time for breakfast. And as for hot pot, it's just a pot of hot broth with food that cooks into it and it's great for colder weather days. You can boil different meats, vegetable that you like and some type of noodle also. The hot broth can be more plain and lighter or like what you had in China the spicier version. All very common for Chinese or Taiwanese to eat regularly. The type of broth used can be somewhat regional, but otherwise, hot pots are very common all over. Pineapple cakes are such an awesome snack also with the buttery cake. Glad you enjoyed your trip to Taiwan and hope you get get back again later.

the hotpot you had in china is actually "ma-la hotpot" which is the spicy one. you can find them in taiwan too. google or ask around using keyword: ma-la huo guo. the one you had in the video is "shabu-shabu" = hotpot, usually you get to choose different soup base, and for shabu-shabu, its usually meant for "one person one pot". and for ma-la huo guo, its usually a big pot to share, you can choose the level of spicyness. and it also come in duo-pot version which means you can have ma-la hotpot at one side of the pot and the non-spicy hotpot at the other. my foreign friend also love the hotpot in taiwan, esp in winter, the cabbage from high mountain is so tasty when cooked in the shabu-shabu. and i would recommend you try the "duck blood jelly" in the ma-la huo guo! its full of flavour and juicy!

The hot pot that you had was like "mini hot pot", it will put all the ingredient in the pot first and waited till it fully cooked then you could eat. And the hot pot that you tried in China was also a lot in Taiwan. There is some famous hot pot that the locals recommended such as "鼎王(tripodking) "or "這一鍋(toponepot)". You guys can try it next time when you come to Taiwan! 😋

If you have another chance to travel Taiwan, it’s highly recommend to travel Hualien which is the region at the east of Taiwan. The natural landscapes are magnificent, there’s various terrain, coast, food and native Taiwanese culture. I just travel Hualien weeks ago, playing stand up paddle, watching sunrise at Cingshuei cliff, it’s worth going once.
