The city of Tanga started from an island called Toten. If you stay at forodhani area, you can see the island. The current Tanga was rice farm in those days.. and the word "Tanga" means farm. This is from bondei tribe. (Naita tanga) means I'm going to the farm. One love from Norway

We need to do research before saying anything. Tanga is a bondei tribe word which means shamba/farm, bondei use to have farms in Tanga before coming of white people.
