The '90s cartoon had one episode in particular I love, where Gomez realizes he's succeeded at all his efforts, and wants to give failure a try for a change! Except he continues to succeed at what he's going for despite every effort to make it as difficult as possible for himself (e.g. picking stocks based on Fester's advice, skydiving into a thimbleful of water while knitting a sweater, etc.) And at the end of the episode, he's lamenting his inability to fail... at which point Morticia points out that he *has* failed by failing to fail!

"I'm going into this completely blind!" So, in other words, just an average Wensday for you. "I guess rated R movies weren’t a thing." Oh no, they were quite a thing back then. In fact the R rating has been around much longer then PG-13, which wasn’t introduced until the mid 80s.

19:15 Basically the whole joke is that she's a completely spoiled, greedy and bratty womanchild at heart. When she gives her villain origin story speech near the end of the movie, she mentions getting the wrong kind of Barbie doll for Christmas one year, and treated it like some robber broke in and killed her parents.

17:10 Lurch is... have no idea. A Frankenstein-esque zombie maybe? The animated movie suggests it is a zombie or a not quite dead mummy that the Addams "adopted" into a butler.

Addams family is literally played like on repeat on family channels during halloween and thanksgiving so most kids have seen this first over the animated one.

People really can't fathom the rating system we had in the 80's/90's. It is not the same anymore. Things rated R needed to really do something crazy. While rated PG was given to just about anything. The first animated movie I ever saw was "Wizards" by Ralph Bakshi. The movie includes nudity, violence, blood, war, execution, abortion, antisemitism, nazis, and drugs. It was rated PG.

Fun Fact: John Astin, the original Gomez Addams from the 1964 series, is the father of Sean Astin, AKA Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings trilogy

There’s technically a third live action movie. It was a direct to video under Saban Studios. I say technically because only one of the original cast is in it. Think it was supposed be a movie pilot for a series that didn’t launch.

Some of the things that made the Addams family weird in the original 60’s series, consider modern in today’s family status standard. Like in one episode Wednesday is upset and both Gomez and Morticia go see what’s wrong. In most nuclear families of that decade it is usually the mother that consoles the child. They even show that Gomez and Morticia have a sex life by having their beds together. In those days even if you were a married heterosexual couple, they had to have their bed separate. Lucille Ball and her actual husband Ricky Ricardo also had their beds together, but I’m pretty sure they were separate in the first season, and didn’t have them together until she was pregnant. It is sad that the actor that played Gomez in the 60 series is the last living cast member. He’s a Gomez without a Morticia, the same Way, Angelica Houston from the 90s Addams Family movies is a Morticia without a Gomez

Fun fact in the original comic run, both kids were on the same level of naughtyness but in the original TV series, Wednesday was the "more innocent" one. I mean, the very first episode opens with her crying because at school they were reading a story in which a dragon died. Yes. Then came the movie and... the rest is history. We never went back to the OG Wednesday (the cartoon maybe tried to return to the "both siblings are on the same level", but I don't recall her being very expressive), at best, in the Netflix series, she is more ("inner-emotionally") expressive.

feels odd to know that Raul Julia played M.Bison in the Van Damme Street Fighter movie which came after these two Addam's family movies. (which makes sense considering that it was his final movie role before his passing). makes you wonder how he'd do the "like lightning" bit as Gomez..

The PG-13 rating didn't exist until 1984. Back then, some PG movies were borderline R. There was nudity, drug use, sex jokes, etc. "Airplane!" is a fun example. My brother-in-law didn't believe me when I told him that one of his favorite movies was rated PG and not R. Speaking of the ratings, there's a Nostalgia Critic episode you should watch. It's titled, "Does PG mean anything anymore?"

I was prepared that you haven't heard of the Wednesday show despite it being all being one of the most trending shows on Netflix in the past few years. Only to my surprise, you have heard of her new show. After not noticing the all the Wish-theme merch in your local stores, not knowing how mainstream Supergirl is, or never hearing Christmas Carol or Christmas Story. I'm surprised you have heard of it.

It seems interesting that the moment of the Addams family movies seem to be a go to Halloween movie in my area in Movie nights 😄 as their movies are the best one to watch for Halloween. Except I haven’t seen the third one since the Original Actor of Gomez Addams from the first one and second one sadly passed away when the third one was coming out. It’s quite sad as he was an outstanding actor. 😢 So with the question to answer on why Morticia Addams having the light only on her eyes is a very nod to her being like a Vampiric character since in Vampire movies, you only can see the eyes only of them or maybe it’s just the focus point for cameras to focus on 😅
