I'm surprised Doug when talking about the first film having dark moments, he didn't talk about the three bears. In the beginning you see mama bear, papa bear and baby bear in cages. Mama bear has a cute pink bow 🎀 on her head. Later in shreks swamp we see papa bear hugging baby bear but we don't see Mama bear anywhere. We'll later we see in lord farquad's room, a rug....a bear skin rug.....with a pink bow. I swear in all the years I've seen this film I never noticed that until it pointed out to me, good god.

There's other Shrek media out there. I watched the Halloween Special which had Shrek, Donkey, Puss, Gingerbread and Pinocchio telling horror stories up in the abandoned Castle Farquaad. Favorite bit was the reversal of Shrek and Donkey's lines after the new puppet song.
