I looked over this video when I first got started with gopro and a mic but I figured I would list my current setup to help others. Use SUGRU moldable adhesive to secure the gopro mount, no jb weld. It is forgiving and can take multiple attempts if an error is made but still hardens insanely solid. Use "Small rig" aluminum cage for Gopro. It puts the mic adapter on the side of the rig instead of underneath. It doesn't get in way of vision as much. Purple panda mic. Attach mic first and then reverse feed inside the helmet. Use tiny dots from a hot glue gun to secure wire. Use a twist-tie for extra wire. Works great. Small rig cage $30-50 Adapter $50 Purple panda roughly $35

I was hoping someone would save the day from what this guy is doing. I mean, tape on the side of a helmet? COME ON! Also, I like his new GoPro holder but he chopped it up and it looks ah, not good. I mean as long as you are happy with what you do, that is all that matters but hammers and duct tape are a little primitive for my taste.

I suggest to mounted it off to the right, so your lens would be centered. For a 100% curve hugging, contour comforming fit, use something like JBw Stick Steel or quick steel epoxy puddy and form it over your helmet over some painters tape, sandwiched with a gopro base, once dry just sand to shape, spray paint and add some 3m sticky, enjoy.

I have a very similar setup and I love it. I use a case like yours for my go pro and mic adapter called ulanzi but it's the exact same style. The only thing different is that I use a chin strap mount on the front of my helmet. It's in the same exact spot and is very stable and I dont have to worry about sticky mounts, welds or glues. I dont have anything permanent on the helmet and I can take it all off and transfer to another helmet in about 2 mins or less. I just wanted something transferable and that wouldn't leaving any markings on any of my helmets. Nice vid as always !!! I'm in Augusta ga and watch you all the time !! I just recently got back into photography and videos and will be posting my first of many moto vlogs this weekend !! I went through some trials and errors with my setup and now that I have it right I'm about to post videos as much as I can !

It's a flexible material and when you put it in place and pull the straps tight on the inside of the helmet it kind of forms as much as possible but when you lock the straps down it's not going anywhere! Like I said for the price it's worth a try and worst case scenario you will have it on hand for your next/secondary helmet. I believe you can make it work though.

For the messy JB Weld step, I'd definitely mask it with masking tape. Then you won't smear JB Weld on your helmet. That camera housing sure is a lot taller with the extra compartment, and I would imagine folks are going to have a challenge not having it hanging below the helmet. Luckily the Hero 8 has a "media mod"! I think I may have to bite the bullet and get the 8! GREAT VIDEO - THANKS!

Question Chase (or anyone)? You said that the GoPro mic adapter was the best for GoPro set up, but I've seen reviews where it was rated the best. I've watched and listened to your videos and have not heard any distortion, etc. So I'm going to trust your judgment on this one...LOL. After watching your helmet videos, I had questions about the JB Weld (then I saw Sugru moldable glue).... What is the purpose for either if the mounts come with 3M backing? I have a similar setup like your except I use a mount that straps to the front of my helmet instead of using sticky mounts and glues and welds etc.... I love it ! I have the same go pro case with mic adapter so that's nice and out the way and I have it on the strap chin mount so I can take it all off in less than a minute and transfer to another helmet if i wanted with ease.

Insulin Junkie Sugru for the win! I mounted my GoPro on my Airframe Pro. Put the mount on the side, and used extenders/ball joints to fix the GoPro centrally. Filled the gaps on the mount with Sugru. Worked amazing, and looks super sleek.

I tried a front mount once and found it to be too much weight on the front of the helmet and caused the brow pad to rest on my glasses putting all that weight on my nose. Ouch! And riding on the hot, humid Gulf Coast in a full-face is almost unbearable! What I'd really like is a great moto-vlogging setup for a half-helmet. I know, I know, too much wind noise. Well, not necessarily. I had it setup once and it wasn't too bad actually, as long as you've got a good windshield in front of you. The problem I had was the length of the boom mic was a bit too short. If you've got any leads on a good boom mic for GoPro, I'm all ears.

FYI, the purple panda mic on the Osmo Action is a no go. It seems like it's too sensitive. Like it needs a 10db reducer or something. However, I may have found the ultimate sound solution for it. I'll know more when I get it in and test it out for myself. ;-)

Shaded Most definitely don’t have to worry about that gel getting on the lid. Easy to mold and clean up, easy to form shape, and even Re-position until it drys, etc. I’ve had the Sugru over 1.5 years. Extreme heat, Florida weather, even hit a lite hail storm once “that was a fun day lol”. Not a single wiggle. The jb weld will def work, but man that’s not worth the chance of an expensive mistake.
