I really enjoy your content. Three years ago I was convinced I sucked at dogfighting because I cannot use the keyboard to control my plane all that well. No feeling in my typing hand nerve damage. After watching awhile I began to realize that much of you skill really is the way you think and plan thru out the match. I think you said more than a few times the setup is as critical as the maneuvering. Anyway what I mean to say is thank you for helping me get better to the point I can now hold my own fairly well even though I still control my plane using mostly the mouse. P.S. I even have started to get better in jets and as a very old guy for whom things move too fast I am tickled pink.

DEFYN, the F-5E was designed to automatically extend its flaps/slats partially depending on the aircraft's AoA. If you deploy combat/takeoff flaps, it can turn a lot more quickly if needed.

Those deflection kills by the F5E always surprise me. I am used to mig 21 and its slow muzzle velocity. I am always imagining how the enemy plane must have pulled a cobra at mach to hit me but no he is giving almost no lead at 2500km/h mutual velocity.

I have been enjoying this plane as a multirole fighter lately, i fly it in Simulator battles carrying AGM's and if need be the 30mm cannon. I target enemy ground targets, especially convoys, and i hsve become pretty effective and picking up thr enemy AA's with AGM's and then swooping in to clean the armours with the 30mm. And while at it i engage every Enemy air target i come across while on route to target or RTB'ing, i dont bother chasing them unless i ID them as really slow movers

For months, I couldn't do well in any of the F-5's because of the guns. Don't know why, just couldn't lead. Maybe it's because i was so used to the early Russian jet guns that I had been grinding to spade since Christmas. Then like 2 weeks ago, something just clicked. I started hitting more planes with the F-5 cannons and grinding the American aviation tree has never been more fun. I still suck at the game and need to check my 6 more often, but killing the enemy has been a lot easier. And dare I say, I've actually been enjoying War Thunder.

F-5e is a fun jet I got it when it was it's original BR (I forgot) played 1 match stock.. never flew it again.. a friend told me the BR has been lowered and I had a lot of fun in it.. the F-5E stock is basically a spaded F-5c I went for the flares first then engine stuff to get those 9j missiles because stock you only get 9e

I remember playing this a fair bit after the F16/mig29 update and getting into a 2v1 against the 29 with an F104... Literally could not do anything against him until he killed the F104 and then took a bad line which let me force a head-on. Nice to see the br drop but I've already researched everything in the US tree and the F5C gets me more SL. Not to mention I've been playing the SMT to grind the 29 myself - and of course the one single worst plane to face is probably the F5E, especially if the pilot knows what they're doing.

Yay a F-5E video! I've been grinding it a lot. If you're good with the F-5C, it's worth a talisman to grind out top tier imo. Got my first ever ace in it last night and was so happy! It's gotten me through about 300ishK of rp in around 6 hours of gameplay. At this rate, the F-16 will be mine this weekend. I also have my best kd ratio in it, being 120ish and 60ish. Not the best, but a good start. Side note: I bought the Su-25K to grind Russia next but haven't yet played it, as I'm waiting to finish out top tier America, or at least play the F-16 a bit. Any tips on how to play it/loadouts to take? (This is a ? for everyone, not just Defyn lol)

@@OzzyTheWild whenever I meet a MiG29 they're always slow and an easy target, I'm sure the f-16 is more noob friendly as it can hold the distance while changing position, much like the F-4E behaves when it sees a MiG21 bis. A properly used MiG29 can stomp an entire lobby, much like a properly used MiG21 bis. You can catch up a MiG29 that starts turning, but not an F-16. Having the same trait of the F-104 helps it a lot actually.

I'm not Defyn, but I'd talisman the F-5E, while the F-8E is a good jet, you'll get sucked into 10.7 games more than you would get sucked into 11.7 games with the F-5E. You can also use the F-5E in ground rb quite well too if you play it. Go anti-tank with the mavericks and anti-CAS with everything else it brings.

I've been playing my Kfir Canard at 10.7 for the last 2 days and it is insanely efficient grinding with all the terrible low level players flying F-5C's. I am getting like 3-4, sometimes 5 or 6, kills a game consistently, 10.7 match making is so good right now if you are trying to grind.

Defyn, can you make a guide with prop plane how to actually dogfight? I'm a pretty new player, i grinded the german air line until rank 3 fighters (109s f4,g2 and fw190s) where i struggle the mosts. Most of times when i met better enemy planes or experience, somehow they just knew how to dogfight, turning my advantages, and all of a sudden im the one losing. Most of the times, when dogfighting i always have 1 goal which is getting to the enemy's tails (no matter how do i achieve that i just need to get into his tail, most of the times its messy). So i don't really know, what to do in a dogfight, using advantages, how to counter the enemy and so on. Almost all of my kills are from boom and zooming which doesn't always work. I just don't know what to do in a situation (mostly just mindless rolling, stalling, diving that gets me killed)

What about the F-5A vs. the F-5E in the Chinese tree? Both are the same BR, but there is a difference in top speed and weight, can you feel this difference in actual gameplay?

F-5A has the same flight performance as the F-5C and the Chinese F-5E is, well, exactly the same as the US one. And as mentioned in the video, the F-5A/C are lighter and therefore turn a bit better (it's somewhat noticeable) but hold their energy less well, especially at lower speeds, which in turn does lower your turn radius at the cost of your energy. Whereas the F-5E accelerates faster at lower speeds, holds energy better at all speeds (energy retention near and above mach 1 is similar for both planes) but turns slightly less hard due to the higher weight. Topspeed differences are only noticeable at high altitudes when flying in a straight line for a long time. At the deck and in more practical situations, the F-5A/C and F-5E have the same top speed.

I personally dump them on bots when i grind for its mods, just making sure to secure some useful rp when you are still not at full capability. Sometimes there will be some 0 awareness enemies that you can sniff its ass and let the heat seeking bird fly out to f em in the ass.

The F5e gotta be the funnest plane at 10.7, your targeted less, people pay attention less, even in uptiers I average 2- 3 kills with guns or 9J and if the 9J is below 0.8Km the 9J ignores flares, recommend the plane if you want a good plane and a fun plane and I know there's usually no fun planes at top tier, this is one of the only ones, mig 21 is also fun and A10 can be fun too, reason being BRRRT and also its a funny dogfighter

10.7 matchmaking is really favorable now. I played 30 ish battles in the F-104G(Italy) and only saw 11.3 twice, most of them being 11.0 or 10.7 - never saw a tomcat

Yes and no. They are obviously very similar, but they have different advantages. F5e has better engine and better missiles. F5c has more flares, better turn radius, better battle rating, more bombs ( even if you shouldn’t use them in air rb)
