Some of the under the hood enhancements seem to have affected non-Steam software unfortunately. I've been playing modded Minecraft via Prism Launcher, and I now get various crashes upon game exit due to how temporary files are attempting to be used. At least, that's what I can glean from the log files. 🙂

People always say if I want a PC handheld with more power then there are plenty of options, but to me there aren't. I cannot play most of the games I enjoy on my steam deck without the trackpads, and nobody else seems interested in including them. Hopefully that'll change soon (I think I saw something about another one with trackpads but I don't think it's released yet). Fingers crossed.

Zotac Zone has dual trackpads. Not sure if they'll be as good as the Deck though.
@Saulh43528 күн бұрын
I have both the Legion Go and the steamdeck. The LGO was exactly the performance boost I was looking for. The track pad isn't nearly as good as steamdecks but it is more than serviceable. I've only had a few games I straight up couldn't run and mostly those are optimization issues (Jedi survivor), but between the performance boost plus AMD FMF I'm able to get stable frames in any game, currently playing TOTK at stable 30fps 🤙

I made the switch to the GPD Win Mini a while ago, but we handheld gamers owe the Steam Deck so much for making handheld PCs become a more serious consideration taken by developers, Valve included. This channel and others like it are still relevant to me, especially since I hope to use SteamOS eventually, and Steam as a launcher/retailer/controller modifier has become a game changer for handhelds, Steam Deck or not

I think I'm a member of the "This'll do..." group of Steam Deck users. I have been incredibly happy with my Top-tier Gen1 SD, and as much as I'd love to have the better screen of the OLED (i have crummy eyesight), I've never felt that the LCD was a problem. I don't feel like I need a true Gen2 device, at least until VRR, and even then I might still need to look past it to whether or not the SD GEn2 gets ACTUAL hardware bumps. I also have some quality-of-life hardware updates (2TB SSD, clear-back with integrated APU heatsink) that I'm not really interested in migrating or replacing on a newer unit. I'm perfectly happy where I am, and with the wealth of content the Deck supports, I'm not getting any FOMO.

my eyesight is good, but the LCD, however, destroys my eyes giving me severe eye fatigue while playing games such as subnautica for not longer than 1h of gameplay, while on my pc screen i can spend all the day playing and having 0 issues, the effect shows up on games where you have to be paying a lot of attention to details. a lot of people have described the same effects on several ocasions including games such as RDR2 getting the oled steam deck may be an annoyance because it was announced like 2-3 months after i got my regular SD, so it is still pretty new.. i would higly prefer to replace the unit with a SD2 for several reasons tho.

I dont understand how someone has not brought to market a 90-100 Wh battery that fits the steam mold but includes a back plate with a small bump to double the size available. it would still be secure and would ideally double the battery life of most users. Everyone I know with a steam deck already pays 60-70 bucks for a solid external battery pack for that exact reason. the market is there its just waiting. There are several million potential customers that would make that leap today, particularly if its plug and play.

I honestly believe that this would compromise the portability of the device as holding it in your hands would get uncomfortable much quicker due to the added weight. When it comes to handhelds every gram counts and Steam Deck is sitting in a very comfortable zone. Powerbanks already fill the niche of extra power on-the-go. Making a battery like you're suggesting would be a huge risk for any company.

@MadsterV26 күн бұрын
My only gripe with the Steam Deck is the docking: it's just a stand and you have to plug a cable on top. Best console dock so far is the WiiU/3DS, though I would like an on/off switch on that dock so I don't have to unplug it, ever. Having the option between USB and docking means more connectors so I get the choice to not do that, but you could instead have a detachable USB-to-dock adapter in a groove, so when the dock adapter is on it's flush at the bottom (with guide holes) and when you remove the adapter, it's a small hole and the USB plug goes at the bottom. This allows for custom docks with custom adapters, in case anyone wants to try new ideas! (magnetic, anyone?) You'd have to sell separate adapters in case you misplace it, of course. Oh, why docking? HDMI+mouse+keyboard. The Deck is my second gaming PC.

So croc being on consoles already kills the DRM free argument, but even beyond that, Steam absolutely supports DRM free games. It's up to the developer if they want to incorporate DRM on their release, Steam just makes it easy to do if the developer wants it. And the thing about GoG being totally DRM free, while true, is a bit misleading. While you can download an offline installer to archive till the end of time, which I highly recommend if you have the extra storage space laying around, games can still be delisted from the GoG store, so they can disappear. Not even GoG has perpetual rights to games on their store (except their own games of course) so it's only yours forever if you archived the installer somewhere safe. I'm not trying to argue for Steam or against GoG, I absolutely buy games on both stores. I just think the perception of GoG being superior because they talk big about their DRM free system is not fully understood. Croc could absolutely have been on both stores and been DRM free on both of them, reaching a potentially wider audience that way.
@fgregerfeaxcwfeffece26 күн бұрын
Steam does not necessarily mean DRM either. there are lots of DRM free games on Steam directly. Baldurs Gate 3 for example. It is entirely up to the publisher even if the use steam.

Suggestion as a guide for a future video: This update allows an OLED Deck to turn on a TV via waking up via controller (I know you already said this in this video). BUT there is a way to wake from sleep on the standard LED steam deck via controller. I tested it myself last night. It works and I think most LED deck owners would love to know about this if they use a official dock. By leveraging the xbox for windows 10 usb controller dongle plugged into the back of the dock, and installing XONE drivers via desktop mode to support it, you can wake an LED deck from sleep despite the LED deck "not having bluetooth wake" limitation. With the new dock update giving HDMI CEC support, this allows the same "wake deck and turn on TV" capability on an LED deck that you get as standard from this update with an OLED deck.

I really do think a 4 core Zen5 and 12 RDNA 3.5/4CUs would be a generational uplift as long as it gets a 192 bit memory bus. This is a custom chip after all, why not give it the bandwidth, and RAM capacity everyone has been wanting. With a 192 bit memory bus they could use the much cooler running DDR5 4800 run everything in 1:1 and still get more bandwith than a 9700G with DDR5 9000 pumping 20w just into memory And, i hear that part of the spec for DDR5 is shutting off some channels when not in use, so maybe you get a 30w mode when docked that uses all 3 channels/192 bit, but when handheld balanced modeit drops down to 15w 128 bit, and then eco mode down to 5w and 64 bit. I do wonder if using 3D packaging Valve, AMD, and TSMC can make a low powered 3D stacked APU Instead of a small cache chiplet, on top of a small compute chiplet, make a monolithic compute chipliet with CPU and GPU cores, then stack that on top of IO paired with LOTS of cache, say 512MB of L4 cache shared between CPU and GPU 32MB of L3 for the CPU, and 192MB of L3 for the GPU then the APU wouldnt have to go out to RAM as often saving power, the question is, how much power, would it be enough to get the same performance as a 192 bit memory bus with just 128bit? Would it allow for a 4000MT/s 192 bit memory bus that just sips power compared to the current 128 bit 5500MT/s OR is the whole think going to use as much power as a 256 bit memory bus, without the benefits

Something on the steam deck that is very annoying and I don’t know if this was a bug or intended, but I saw on KZbin that you can go on desktop mode install your games on steam and then turn the display off and it will continue to download, but the only thing with that Mine even though I have it plugged up to the power adapter when the screen goes black, it disconnects from the Internet and if I was downloading the game, that’s annoying because it stops and then it messes up and I have the OLED so I won’t be able to download games with my screen off because I won’t be playing games when it’s downloading and I also heard from KZbin that OLED screens if they’re left on too long, they can get Berlin if the screen is not moving with a picture or something

honestly i respect valve for not releasing a new steam deck like phones. but they make money out of the store mainly AFAIK The only steam deck I can think of right now that'd make sense is a steam deck slim/mini but that'd suck battery wise!

Updated mine and could not boot withoutt doing the cold boot method (vol up + power, about 6 times and then it could boot), but it happened every time i powered off or sleep. The BIOS is the culprit. Reverted with deck bios manager and it works as before. Valve said i could pay 200€ for them to look at it. f7a132 bios is a dud, the f7a121 works though. Now i have blocked all updates because it would just autoupdate and give the same problem again. Hope the next Bios update fix this, untill then no updates on mine.

Is this update beneficial to the OLED model or just the LCD model? I’m talking battery improvements mostly

Do you think we will be able to play native game pass games on the steam deck? I feel like that’s the only missing feature for the perfect handheld

Had to roll back because my external USB drive won't mount on the new update (through JSAUX dock).

Still no racing wheel support, but at least the arch and kernel versions are more recent. I gave up using my Logitech g923 wheel with Steam Deck because the configuration would break after system updates. It works with Windows on my PC, but, you know. Windows. The constant stream of Windows updates and the way they break so many devices is wasting time I'd rather spend playing a racing game.

For now I agree with no steam deck 2 yet... But I expect to see an ally 2 next year as well as other brands with the new chip from AMD and if it performs as expected the gap does get quite big with the original steam deck... Still, plenty of games you can still play on the deck, but personally I might be swayed by an Ally 2 (X)

Steam deck with an 80wh battery would be too good for us mere mortals. 🤩

Dunno what half of this means but I’m happily playing God Of War Rangorok at 30FPS happily on my steam deck that would be considered the “old version” 😂😎

As expected, even older games aren't immune to soulless AI slop. I was afraid that this would happen, cheap HD "remasters".

What are you specifically referring to as "AI SLOP"?

SteamOS Kernel updated to 6.5? The 6.12 is in release candidate and the 6.11 has been released in fedora and ubuntu... :/ I guess the Steamdeck doesn't need it since they seems to cherry pick some and has they proper fixes, but it seems very late on that point. It would be required if they want to expand the availability of steamOS on others machines. Bazzite is really up to date on that point with the kernel 6.11.5 taht will be release tomorrow on stable branch. It will be more compatible for others handheld than steamOS.

GOG Exclusive games seem less like an issue when they're DRM free.
@mindaugasstankus594327 күн бұрын
Exclusives just another walled garden consoles crap or similar. On open platform like PC (it is Personal Computer, not MS Windows computer) you should get software direly from dev/publisher and/or distribution site of your choice.
@fjrichman26 күн бұрын
@mindaugasstankus5943 Unlike EA or Ubisoft or even Epic games everything from gog is drm free. Meaning it isn't really a walled garden.

I’m having issues with my lcd 2022. The battery won’t hold a charge at all. So no handheld mode unless it’s plugged in, might aswell be docked at that point.

Ngl im having some issues with turning on my sd with my bluetooth controller. Even in dongle mode it doesn't work and this is with my 8bitdo controller. Ive tried using my dual sense and xbox series x as well but still nothing. Mind you i have an lcd sd but nowhere in the patch notes does it say it was only for oled so your vid was extremely helpful. Id think valve would be on top of this but we'll see :/
