I’ve just been using a MagSafe charger and some Amazon adapter 😅 It works great, I didn’t have to wait 2 years for it and it didn’t cost $99. Belkin is overcharging for their stuff. Also I didn’t have to loose a vent 😂

If you're making a short trip and you want your phone to get as much charge as it can get in a short time, just move the charging cable's cord from the MagSafe car mount/charger's input, to the phone's charging/data port. That way, with the iPhone, you can sometimes briefly get as much as 27.5 watts of charging power, after which it will drop to somewhere betwee 20-25 watts, whcih is still significantly higher than even the newer MagSafe maximum charge of 15 watts, and it's likely your iPhone will be significantly less warm with a direct charging connection too.

This charger is awesome but way too expensive. I got a Qi car charger last year, but is not magnetic. It has a motorized holder that closes when it detects the phone, not as fancy looking or as fast as this Belkin one, but for $35 it gets the job done. I would still like to have a MagSafe one if it wasn’t so expensive.

The only way that I would be able to justify the price tag is this it were introducing some sort of technology. What I mean by that is with this charger would not only charge but send data. I have a 2020 Nissan, Altima, SR and if I bought this and connecting my phone I wish you would run CarPlay. Not wireless CarPlay but the one that you have to be connected to your phone to operate.

I have an Spigen Mag Fit Car Mount that is used to actually house an Apple Mage Safe charger. You have to buy both, as well as the 12 Volt adapter, but they are still cheaper than this Belkin one. I’ll stick with my current set up. I was slightly interested in this, to put in my work vehicle, but I’ll probably just go the ESR Car Mount and an Apple Mage Safe charger combo again.

This would be great! If CarPlay was wireless… so I can buy this and then spend another $100+ on a wireless CarPlay adapter. Or I can keep using my MagSafe holder with a lightning cable that charges and connects to CarPlay. Wired CarPlay is such a miss for Apple.

I think you need to take a look at Brodit then because they've been selling MagSafe car chargers for ages. Brodit make the best car chargers or phone holders bar none.

In that case, they only have holders for Apple's actual charging puck. The issue here is that it actually holds in the heat, causing temperature issues that a dedicated charger doesnt

@@AppleInsider Ah I just checked the Brodit website, what they do is make adapters and holders that use Apples own original MagSafe charger, so that’s how they get around it, and why I think they are still the best. But that makes them more expensive then Belkins solution.

Still this Belkin is designed for car use, so may be better then the MagSafe charging puck which isn’t, cars get very cold overnight in some regions especially at winter, and I’m not sure the official,puck will survive that but this Belkin could.

You've got two options. First, you can still plug in when you need to use CarPlay. In that case, your phone will prioritize the physical cable and this will act as a standard MagSafe mount, but then charges when CarPlay isn't in use. The second option is to use a wireless CarPlay adapter. I've used this in my car for a while and my wife has the same. Wireless CarPlay adapter: amzn.to/3GqXaAb

I don't see the need for a fast charger in the car. When I go on a trip my phone is usually at full charge as I depart. I plug it in to the 2.5 watt USB connector in my car and it stays at 100%. Car play in my car only works when plugged into that outlet. Otherwise bluetooth is always connected. I like the large screen I have in vehicle for nav so I wouldn't go with a small screen anyway.

Like I've mentioned, it will depend on the person and use case. Navigation, wireless carplay, and playing music will drop your phone faster than the 2.5W charger is going to go. So for me, that wont cut it. For you, it seems fine. Mine is NEVER charged when I hop in the car because it is usually mid-day or in the evenings. So my phone is halfway charged or less depending what I've been up to or when I last charged. Just going to the store I'd lose more charge than gain with a 2.5W charger and a 7.5W doesnt do much for me either. It's only with a fast charger that I'm actually getting some notable charge in the car on a short 20 minute ride.

I think the main point is for me is that when you have a limited time to charge, a fast charger is necessary. Most rides are short, meaning a fast charger is needed.

If your car doesn't support wireless CarPlay, using this MagSafe charger won't enable CarPlay. However, there are wireless CarPlay dongles available to make your CarPlay experience wireless.
