After I was born, my mom had to go back to work so I wasn’t breastfed for long. I was on soy formula and then mostly cow’s milk. At age 4, I got a severe shigella infection from a public pool and was sick for several weeks. I had lots of constipation and gerd after recovering. Suffered all of my childhood until age 16, I got the HPV vaccines because that’s what you are supposed to do. Stated bleeding from my bowels so I saw a GI who diagnosed me with ulcerative colitis. I think the genetic component is my dad (also a UCer) and the gut permeability was part in due to lack of breastmilk and the shigella virus. My trigger was the vaccine. I am 34 and have suffered horrendously ever since and don’t have all digestive system now. No FMD has been able to do a single thing (took all the l glutamine and aloe vera and thousands in supplements/parasitic cleanses). I am fully dependent on biologics/jak inhibitors to function at all. I always hate when people say just eat this way or pray more to God. It is way more complex than that and comments like that always prove that most people have no idea what they are talking about. It was nice to here this doctor’s take honestly even if I have tried everything in the functional medicine category. I think we are many years away from fixing autoimmune diseases. Japan had some awesome research on allergens being the trigger for UC and causing the constant immune reaction so they have tested immunotherapy shots on patients with good results.

Please research “gut health”, because even if you eat all the “healthy” foods, your poor gut health may not allow the good components to be absorbed. Worst case is that your gut is leaky and now those “healthy” foods are escaping the gut and are seen as invaders to your immune system. Check out Michaela Peterson (spelling?).

Have you ever done a long term water fast, like 21-30 days or gone to a retreat center to do it? I think there’s a center called TrueNorth. Also, I know they’re not approved everywhere, but have you considered fecal transplant? I think they’re starting to come out with more accessible treatments like that now.
@Joannabanana1989
@Joannabanana1989 2 ай бұрын
12ewokify I have not fasted for that long but many hospital stays they would not let me eat or drink for a week. Those were the hardest for me. They called it “bowel rest.” I still pooped 30-40 times a day eating ice chips! The disease causes so much muscle wasting, bone loss and electrolyte issues so I don’t think it would be healthy for me to fast that long. We did do fecal transplants back in 2011-2012 time frame and they failed miserably. We did 9 transplants from my aunt’s stool (very healthy). I got worse! It was experimental and the doctor said he couldn’t do them in the hospital or he would get fired but gave me directions for at home. Trust me, I have tried anything out of the box. The hospital I am at has done bone marrow transplants but only for Crohn’s. I’d be willing to participate in the trials if they open it up to UC patients.

😩carbs don’t make one fat only excess calories does!!? How do you explain the wasting of calories as ketones via urine, sweat and breath on ketogenic lifestyle? Both CICO and carb-insulin paradigm are important in fat accumulation/weight gain and fat loss. It is important to give complete information in relation to weight management. We don’t all have the time to spend hours in the gym to burn carbs. I am 65yr old female - 5’2 - 50kg- in remission for stage 4 cancer and I maintain my muscle and weight on keto lifestyle with minimum 2-3 days/week aerobics, sprints and resistance. I feel fabulous!! So I don’t agree that carbs don’t make us fat but excess calories. The statement is not complete!!!
