I adopted a blind GSD 2 yrs ago, and when I first got him I thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life lol, but after a little while I realized he was the biggest blessing we had ever gotten. He is the biggest knuckle head, he runs into EVERYTHING... He's like a battering ram and does everything 100 mph. He gets so excited every time you leave and come home Whether it's 2 min or 2 hrs he's there to greet you with so much excitement you have to calm him down its hilarious.. I can't even tell you how much I appreciate him... He's also incredibly smart, and highly aware of his surroundings. Ive had several other dogs, but he pays attention to everything its kind of crazy. He's the best blind watch dog on the planet, and if anybody came into my home unwanted, good luck... Their going to meet a 100 lbs of furry. He's blind, but it wouldn't matter, his awareness of his surroundings is all he needs. He's one tuff dog, and I trust him with my two little girls any day of the week. Thats what I love most is how he watches over them like they're his own... Get a GSD, I will again, and again

I lived 24/7 365 with a longhair GSD for almost 10 years. He was my partner, we shared everything including our lunch. He was always on duty at work, at home if I was in the house, he relaxed 100%, he would not react if strangers entered the house if they behaved normal. He was the big brother of three hoomans who he loved and protected. He helped us raise them. A better friend can not be found. I ❤ him even after thirty years since he died. His name...Yzzo

I had a girl who, as a puppy while I was reinforcing training with an older pup, taught herself to sit. she was very young so I wasn’t doing much training with her but she saw the older one get treats when she sat and on the third “sit” to my older pup the puppy sat too and looked at me. I was thrilled, and yes she got treats and she sat every time after. when she was an adult I was building a fence. when I was standing she was carefree chewing a stick she found (gs’s LOVE their sticks!) but when I knelt down she immediately stood up and scanned the area. I didn’t notice at first but when I saw it I decided to see if I was imagining it, sure enough every time I knelt she stood and scanned, if I stood she laid back down and chewed her stick. she also was very keen at reading my emotions and when I got a depressive episode she’d head butt me, quite forcefully, until I started laughing, she always succeeded. she too would only be aggressive to strangers if either I wasn’t present or I wasn’t calm around them. if I was chill so was she. she passed from cancer at 12 years old and I hated it, nearly a decade later I still dream of her, bittersweet upon waking, but I do love those dreams.

When my son was born, I got a GSD to grow up with him. Of course that did not work. The GSD grew up mu ch faster. He became the baby sitter and guard for my Son. We had a daughter 4 years later and another daughter 4 years after that. Prince was their protector. He would walk them to church and meet them afterwards. No stranger could get between Prince and my kids. He was never aggressive unless someone disrespected his boundaries. He was a true blessing.

German shepherds are so fantastic with kids. I grew up with one, but never had one myself yet. But I absolutely love the breed. Edit: I know some places it's recommended to be careful with your kids around German shepherds. I have no experience other than my own so take that into consideration who ever might read this

My daisy is 3 in December. Had her since 9 weeks old, gies with me everywhere. Up until a year ago even to work with me. Been in a 26 foot camper her whole life and it's her castle. Owned and even bred many breeds over my life. But until I got her i never knew the love and loyalty and most importantly the trust a dog can have for it's master. And the intuition to what i want and the inherent understanding they display is amazing. Best dog I've ever had and have had some really good one's of other breeds but nothing like a well cared for and treated for friendship of a GSD

0:40 since I'm assuming that's the dog's owner, that dog absolutely know it's not some stranger. it knew you were in the room, it just wasn't expecting such a weird surprise. their sense of smell is more powerful than any two of our senses put together, so I think the reaction is more "what the hell is this? this is brand new. what's happening? huh?" if it believed you were a stranger, a SCARY stranger, it'd probably not be so amicable. German Shepherds don't take to scary surprises from people they don't know so well.

I would love to have a dog, especially a German Shepherd, but I'm too old. I don't have the energy for one anymore. Also, I don't want to suffer another loss, and I wouldn't want a dog to suffer a loss, either. It would be selfish and cruel of me to get a dog. I simply CAN'T do that. period.

Similar position I am in. If you have the necessary resources consider adopting or fostering an old dog, might not need much intense exercise. Still the loss part, but maybe that'd be easier knowing from the start that it would be short time and be huge kind act for the dog.

I have a feeling not every german shepherd wants to be in someones life. Especially the lifes of those people who think a dog needs clothes or have the lock them in a cage because they have to go to work. Only people with enough understanding and time should be allowed to own dogs that size. Shepherds are work dogs. Think before you get one. Don´t get a dog as an entertainment.

I he a mix. She was the smartest dog, but not when she saw my reflection in the kitchen window. Growling and barking and running outside the door to look and back. She was convinced there was someone outside. She was smart though. She ran down the steps at the beach and back up the other set of stairs so she could see inside. It was her first trip to the beach house and she knew I was packing up to leave. Great guard dog. My brother said she is not letting you leave without her. 😂

It’s a Bailey chair. Some dogs have a disorder called In dogs megaesophagus. It’s when the muscles in the esophagus cannot properly coordinate this swallowing movement. As a result, food, and liquid accumulate in the esophagus, stretching it and preventing nutrients from being properly absorbed in the stomach. The Bailey chair keeps them alive.

My half GS half Aussie dog is all of this and very brave, except for the counter top ice maker. He is terrified of it. He jumps up onto my lap when he hears the ice drop, all 95 pounds of him. He would still ride my horse as he did as a puppy but I've said no more. He goes on a lead line off of his horse, but no more riding with me, sorry. He is not happy when I put the chihuahua onto my lap on the horse, but that doggy fits, again, sorry dude. I watched my 1/2 GS zip out from behind my horse to chase off some evil range cattle that were crossing the trail in front of us. They were making some horses in our group nervous which made my horse a little nervous and off Max went sounding very fierce and nipping at the cattles heels. He came right back and my friend commented on that saying her dog would still be chasing the cattle to the county line. Nope, my 1/2 GS is very protective of me and his horse. Lol.
