@ultimadum7785

well I think that in these Destiny debates they seem way more reasonable because most of the interactions you get with them are online and in short twitter threads. Destiny, your take on polygraphs is really bad. It's literally pseudoscience, it's used in clearances to test if people can get information out of you. The number of people who fail the first few times because they're nervous, and they just keep testing you, is huge. It's not an insider threat detection sort of thing, they wouldn't let you keep trying until you passed if it was. And in court, comparing a polygraph to DNA is actually laughable. For DNA, the reason it's strong as circumstantial evidence is that it's possible to combine it with other pieces of circumstantial evidence to form a stronger case, whereas a polygraph is basically worthless. The reason? It's not scientific.

The point of a polygraph and what I assume Destiny's point is, is not that a polygraph is neccecarily an effective means of data collection. Rather it can be used in a case against somebody to further a narritive or give another level of credence to a claim. So it functions the same as DNA analysis in this way, although by no means as effectively. Most educated people know that polygraphs arent all that effective but that isn't their purpose.

Michael Brooks has been pretty consistent in saying that he’s voting for Biden because Biden is better than Trump. To be fair, he has also said that he’s not particularly interested in actively pushing people to do the same, but to the extent that he’s influencing his audience on this issue, it’s in a positive direction. Edit: shortly after commenting, I came across a newly uploaded segment by Michael Brooks about the importance of strategically voting to get Trump out of office. While it’s still not his main focus, he is advocating for his audience to vote for harm reduction.

When did Michael Brooks become part of Bernie or Bust? His stance for 2020 is the same as in 2016: vote for harm reduction if you live in a swing state, but vote third party if you live in a safe state. The only difference is in 2020 he’s said he’s not going to put energy into convincing people to vote for Biden. But he has said over and over that he doesn’t see any credible argument against harm reduction voting. His approach of clearly stating his belief in tactical voting but not browbeating people who disagree is probably more effective at getting people in swing states to vote for Biden than the approach of browbeating people and calling them privileged if they don’t plan to vote for Biden (some Bernie or Bust people are privileged, for sure, but many are working class or poor people who are fed up).

@1:04:28 just because a group or person isn't systemically oppressed, doesn't mean you can treat them like this. This would then apply to the Asian community too but we all know people can be racist towards Asians. This whole idea of punching up is used to justify some really gross behavior. This new definition of racism doesn't take into account individual physical force. just because a group doesnt believe they have political power doesn't mean they don't have any power at all. Physically going after someone for their race is racist.

Its interesting to see how Destiny's views on race politics have begun to adapt, in terms of the individual identity vs group identity. Sure you might be part of an overall more powerful group, but when someone is talking to you individually and acts in a way that uses your unchangeable and not inherently bad features to try and attack you, that doesn't factor in to people: all they say is someone acting in a way that if they did it back they would be thrown in the stocks. From his thoughts in this video, it seems like he is reconsidering his views on groups and adding refinement to it. I hope he talks about it more in the future.

Honestly the only bad take I've heard from Destiny is that take on polygraphs. The readings and extrapolation of their results in the way its done used by the police and courts is a literal pseudoscience, like an actual pseudoscience as none of it is really based in the scientific method and the results have little to no correlations with reality. They test the conductiveness of your skin and sometimes other factors to basically determine if you're nervous or not, which for 99% of people will be definite when in the environment of being questioned whilst using a polygraph and what they measure doesn't really have anything to do with the process of forming a lie in your brain or the activity created by forming a lie. Anything beyond saying "well they're nervous about answering the questions" is a gross over-extrapolation of the results, and if you're naturally confident, have taken anxyolitic, or use certain techniques like literally just puckering your asshole or going into it with a certain mindset, you can be beat a polygraph. Like, it's essentially tea leaf reading for the police, really just a way to put pressure on a person and compel them to tell the truth under the idea that no matter what the polygraph will tell the police that they've lied. The point "you can use it to establish other stuff" has no bearing on if it's a pseudoscience. Plus, If a person in such a state that they come up as "lying" on the polygraph, the police probably could just look at them and listen to their voice, nervous people generally look and sound nervous. And baseline questions as a concept make literally no sense. If I ask you in an interrogatory context "do you own a dog" or "is your birthday X day Y month and Z year" your answer will most likely come without anxiety as it as a simple, non-accusatory question without much baggage that is unlikely to provoke a retaliatory response or shock in a person. But if I asked something like "did you murder this woman on this night" a person is much more likely to give an answer with more nervousness and hesitation as in the mind of most people "did you do X" isn't just a question, it's a loaded accusation, which is more likely to lead to people to being more anxious and giving somewhat rebutting answers alongside a feeling pressure, which causes stress and nervousness alongside the pressure of doing a polygraph. They are essentially self-fulfilling when used in the context of a criminal case. Methods of establishing a case or body of evidence that are known to fulfill themselves and be very unreliable just shouldn't be used in any legal system when you're talking about establishing a criminal case and possibly imprisoning someone. They really don't seem to be valuable outside of providing the police a way to creat a more directed interrogation strategy as to uncover what are lies and what are not. Using the results in courts just sounds like an easy way to prejudice a jury.

The reason why Canadians don't just integrate first Nations people is because our attempts to do so are the main contention between us. Destiny also assumes that the Canadian political system is better than a first Nations system, which is far from proven because thier system was destroyed by the religious beliefs of colonizers and replaced by a hybrid system that doesn't work for either side. The reason conditions on reserves are so bad is because of the same corruption that the rest of us deal with in our governments with no oversight as to how money is spent. He had concerns about certain groups of people being more represented with mail in voting, but he also said before that there are people who don't vote because they can't get off work. A lot of those people are poor, and minorities are, as a percentage of their population, more likely to be poor than white people, so our current system already favors more affluent white people. I'm concerned about the chain of custody of ballots between intended recipient and the polling station being full of vulnerabilities. I'm worried that voter verification will be messed up as people get ballots delivered to addresses they've moved from, or submit a mail-in ballot AND vote in person. I'm worried that they'll be counting ballots for so long after election night and that ballots will keep rolling in and "being found". The Dems are making the verification process weaker too by scrapping the protocol for mismatched signatures that would go back to the voter to resolve with a proper signature or come vote in person. It seems they want votes with mismatched signatures to be countable without contest.
