I've done a modified IF 16:8 for a year or more, but always started my day with a cup of black tea, milk and honey. Nothing has budged. I'ts finally clicked that the honey has stopped my fast. As of 3/1 I have tweaked and am undertaking this journey with a friend: 18:6 with a 12-6 eating window, taking my 2-3 mile walk before my cup of tea, without honey, then I break my fast (12:00) with a green shake with greek yogurt, PB, chia seeds, etc. Then, about 2:00 tuna or eggs. Then a good dinner at 6. I'm hoping these small tweaks will jump start the final 20 pounds I'd like to drop (in addition to lowering my triglycerides). I'm 58, 5'3" and 155lbs. Posting this to be accountable to a greater community.

I also am wondering how you are doing. What I would question about your eating schedule is having your meals so close together w/in that 6-hr window, plus too much protein. I.e., it sounds like your green shake is full of protein, etc., so why follow it with tuna or eggs just an hour and a half later? Then you're having what you describe as a "good dinner" 3 1/2 to 4 hrs (at most) after that. This strikes me as not allowing your food enough time to digest. I generally try for 6 hrs between meals (5 minimum). Why not skip the tuna/eggs? Sounds like too much protein (and animal protein). Please check out Dr. Joel Fuhrman. He's done extensive research, and to my mind truly knows his stuff. Blessings to you on your continuing journey!

Love Dr. Mindy! In my 60's new to fasting! It is my lifestyle now! Did a 48 hour one! I do anywhere from 16-24, five or 6 days a week! My spinal and cervical stenosis symptoms are barely there. I can stretch without discomfort, have a natural happy high, and want to share this with the world! ❤

Intermittent fasting has helped my depression and anxiety. A month ago I could barely get out of bed. Today, i feel happy and so much peace. When I do get signs of anxiety, I'm able to ground myself, whereas in the past, I wasn't able to. Thank Dr. Mindy.

I started IF about a year ago. Started slow (not eating after 9 pm, breakfast after 9 am) and kept making the window longer. I now vary my fast between 12 and 20 hours on most days (depending on my schedule for the day). I lost about 60 lbs in a year, and I feel so much better. And the best thing about it is that at least half of what I lost is belly fat, and I dont have any excess loose skin anywhere. I still have at least 40 lbs to go before I'm anywhere near a healthy BMI, but I'll get there. For me the biggest thing I learned is to be nicer to myself. I used to get into this whole spiral of berating myself for having no willpower, and telling myself it was no use and I would never be able to stick to a diet, etc. With IF if I have a few days (like vacation, or holidays) where I eat too much and don't really fast long enough I don't waste any energy on yelling at myself. I just tell myself that every now and then my body should have a few days of feasting, and it's now time to get back to my regular eating schedule. No stress. (And it's actually easy to get back to fasting, because generally just the bloating caused by too many bad carbs will be enough to motivate me.)

Thank you for sharing!!Good job!!!!😍👏🏻 I’m doing 20 hours fasting, feel excellent, lost 11 pounds. But I’m afraid of losing muscles. So trying to figure out, how people eat within eating window hours. How much calories? And what nutrients balance is the best(carbs/fat/protein) I counted that I need 1600 calories per days. But it seems impossible to fit this amount into 4 hours window, looks like I should eat 4hours in a row🤪😳?(I can’t eat that much.😅) Could you help to understand? How you regulate this?? Thank you in advance❤️🙏 PS: Just bought the book(hope I’ll find more details there)

@@bonnieduley-cook5047 I'm so glad to see your comment and @debbieobrien1598 because I was a little confused. Post-menopausal women should also follow the new moon/full moon protocol like someone who may not have a period for other reasons? I wasn't sure because at that age hormones don't behave like those of younger women.

After listening to the first episode in this two-part series, I started a 3 day fast. I only made it 60 hours before I felt like I was going to pass out on my way to the gym. I drank a 16oz green smoothie (spinach, bananas, water, collagen, peanut butter protein, hemp hearts, and chia seeds) and then went 20 more hours without food, and only water. This morning I drank another 16oz spinach smoothie on my way to the gym. 4 days in and I've lost 8 lbs. My mind is clearer, I slept like a baby last night, and woke up this morning at 4:10am wide awake with no alarm. I feel a little weak, but think it is partly due to detoxing my system. I was thrilled to hear today's episode about following the moon cycle. Menopause has been a terrible development in my life, and I'm eager to see how intermittent fasting repairs my system. Thanks Mel for putting this show together for us. I appreciate you. 🙏

Since I started IF, which was approximately 3 weeks ago I went from 16-8, 17-5, 20-4, 24hr, 36h, 40h.. aiming this Sunday to 48hr. I had irritable bowels, not regular had to use ducolax, but now while fasting I have regular bowel movements, I have lost weight in which I could loose 10ths😊. My primary goal is for cell renewal, feeling whole better health, my headaches are gone &. My joint pain is gone !,,,I am post menopausal and 60y, very physical in all types of cycling , mountain biking, gravel, fatbiking, hiking… gym goer 6 days a week. Dr Mindy’s fasting videos has intrigued me to keep binging her you tubes and stay motivated as I am feeling mentally clear and irritable bowel is getting much better! I want to make Dr. Mindy’s protocols and healing a LIFESTYLE. I AM STILL NOT understanding what the protocol for Menopause is. Dr Mindy you talk a lot about menstrual cycle and how to do Fasting. What about menopause?

Omg....I screamed that's me!!! When she spoke about the business women...I lost weight with a Dr. Online, following his fasting rules and then....weight gain, hair loss, lack of energy....very downtrodden and sad. I feel my BEST fasting. I am ADD, so decision fatigue is REAL! My local gym owner/chiropractor said that I am fasting wrong. And I needed to think about things differently because my body and hormones and DNA are different than hers. All of this is fascinating!!!

I’m 61 and I just started IF 3 days ago. First 12, then 14 and then 16 hours already! I’m going to follow this moon cycle idea in an edited way. My plan is to continue a fasting schedule of 16/8 until/unless I crave a carb during my fast, then I’ll break my fast and eat the carb. So basically, just being lenient with carbs during those days. I’m excited to see if I even crave them that week at all (during my eating window or during my fast). I have overcome my old carb addictions in general and only eat healthy carbs in moderation.) Good luck to you!

I would love to have my last meal at 6pm but I’m a late night sleeper and staying up brings on the worst snacking habits in my life. So I have my last meal around 8/9 when I finish with family and prep food and house chores for next day. When my family goes to bed and it’s quiet I sit and have that last cup of tea and something comforting😂😂 Need to change this but not sure how. I am new to fasting and started last Sunday 8/9pm to 1/2pm. Rough start Monday was a fail broke fast at 12. Tuesday to Thursday perfect then Friday morning was washing grapes for little one fell in my mouth 😢 but nothing else till 3.30 as punishment except black coffee but still felt guilty in the night after reflection so I had a glass of JD and Diet Coke on ice (instead of tea) with 1/4 can of Pringles and fell asleep on the couch watching Dr Mindy. Today Saturday 12pm had two cinnamon rolls with coffee finishing this podcast and reading all your successful testimony and planning to start again tomorrow Sunday. Please I welcome any tips!!!

Fasting for only 12 hours unlocks tons of benefits, if you are done at 9, and then have tea, tea is fine as long as there's no sugars or cream. Then you go to bed, try to not eat the next morning until 9. That alone would help you! Idk, coffee is still fine in the morning she said full fat cream is ok (listening to her while I type this)

Also not a coincidence for me that this came up in my feed! I started IF on Monday fasting for 17-18 hours. I am fine with my coffee, coconut cream and MCT oil until 1-2pm but I feel exhausted. I've been menopausal for decades and having listened to this I know what my body is saying....EAT! Full moon was last Saturday and I am screwing with my progesterone! Dinner tonight - black rice, edamame, sunflower sprouts and back to my fruit for breakfast until Sat - Sun! Thank you Mel and Dr. Mindy! Just in time!

Good morning, regarding my ‘break fast’ coffee ☕️ I make a lovely, organic cold brew, add a full fat creamer, teaspoon of organic coconut oil, and sprinkle with cinnamon. You have that fat barrier, and the coconut oil also makes it very creamy. And cinnamon regulates your blood sugar glucose levels. I will also add collagen protein. And it’s a lovely way to start each morning and break my fast. MCT oil does not agree with me. While also having protein, so it’s a nice balanced deliciously creamy way to begin the day. And I look forward to it. Thank you Mel and Mindy for the continued education. I’ll call you two M&M 😅

How do we as women factor in hormonal IUDs and its impact on our hormones and intermittent fast
@lophelan

This video has been a godsend! Thank you! I have a question: My husband and I started intermittent fasting (16:8) two weeks ago. I have gone even farther on some days and had just one meal a day (after 20 hrs fasting). I've been a bit discouraged, because--while I am feeling perkier and more energized--I haven't lost a single pound! My husband has lost 10!! I've tried to cut down my carb intake when I do eat, and I know I'm not consuming more calories than I was when I wasn't fasting. I'm 58 and in menopause, not taking hormones. What am I doing wrong?!

You are not doing anything wrong. Men respond faster to fasting than women. Keep going… men & women’s energy systems are different , due to us being female. It doesn’t mean if you’re menopausal (as am I) your body is like a man’s. Highly recommend FAST FEAST REPEAT by Gin Stephens - she says women should not expect ANY weight loss in month 1. Keep going, get a girlfriend to do it with you also :). I lost 50lb fasting, it’s my jam.

When you are not losing weight on the scale, you can be losing inches instead. Even better! I lost 6 pounds in a month, but lost inches and went down another pant size. I am 5' 7 and it felt good to slip into size 10 jeans again. Trust the process and focus on the health benefits, sleeping better, etc.

Huge fan of Dr. Mindy. I've been following her almost as long as I've been following you! I'm 60, super fit except for a wanky hip, and her fasting protocols are now part of my life. I've done the 3-day and loved it; almost didn't want to eat afterward because I felt so good, but I know better. Just happen to be finishing a 24 hr fast today to reset my gut. I have more energy. Feel amazing. Would I do it if I couldn't drink coffee? Don't make me go there. Just don't. Happy fasting!

Thank you SO MUCH for having Dr. Mindy on your podcast. I have embraced intermittent fasting back before the pandemic when everybody thought it was crazy stupid. I lost 30 lbs and was loving it. But then something happened in my body and I'm SURE it had to do with my hormones after reading and listening to Dr. Mindy. I was so diligent with it-- I think I messed up my body! Gained all the weight back and more and now eager to try it again with a fresh perspective that I need to keep it in tune with my cycle. And not do OMAD (One Meal A DAY) 30 days a month like my husband. Lightbulb moment!! Would love to hear more from Dr. Mindy about food and eating during our eating windows with more healthy foods for our body. If I'm doing this for weight loss- it matters!! Thanks Mel!

I am 33 years old and a mother of a 4-year-old son. I need guidance on managing my thyroid, including which foods to eat and avoid. A simple fasting meal plan would help me better understand my diet. If I eat at 7 pm, should my first meal be around 11 am the next day? Would dinner then be considered the second meal of the day? Also, could you recommend essential vitamins and minerals, especially from Indian brands that are widely available? Since my son's birth, my health has been declining, particularly with my menstrual cycle and digestive health. Recently, I started consuming more vegetables, but I still feel like my body isn’t signaling properly, and I struggle to have regular bowel movements. I really need help managing these issues.

When I first heard about this, I chuckled. When I am not living with a man or nannying children, which is the last two years...I ONLY eat when I'm hungry or ( shame!) Watching T.V.. Mornings are hard , I wake up, grab a moment to watch a bit of your and jam, and do the beauty routine for work, pack my little bag we're already have something at work fairly healthy, and if it's busy I could end up not eating till I get home or not eating till 2:00 or 3:00 at least until 11:00 a.m. and I have done this all my life when I'm single. Only eating when I'm hungry, and or had a chance to . Most nights at grabs something healthy and a sweet treat and other nights I will over eat. My new home didn't have a toaster I had sticker shock when I saw how much they cost post-pandemic I hadn't had a new one for two decades, and I just didn't buy one. And therefore I don't buy bread.. Within a few months that had stripped 12- 15 lbs on average. I know in my heart that if I quit with the chocolate binges and the wine, another 10 lbs with drop and I am already average/ slender. But any weight loss helps my back. I used to be very very slender and even though I'm not overweight my body feels the extra weight on me. It's funny how sometimes you intuitively do the right thing without knowing what the heck it is. I never would have called not eating until 3, fasting. My lifetime eating habit ( when I'm single) is "intermittent fasting" if I wake up starving, I probably barely ate the day before, so it's fine to eat.

But if you’re still drinking sugary drinks it’s not really fasting. My life has been similar. I eat sometimes just once a day. So if I had not been adding any sugars it probably would have helped me out. 😂

The M&Ms! 😁 I've been intermittent fasting since June 2022 and have lost about 30 lbs of visceral fat. I now need to "fast like a girl" and figure out the cycle approach. I need to put in my calendar when nature's carbs are okay. I'm experiencing hair loss and constipation symptoms, although I eat mostly organic fish and many different vegetables. I am so happy to see Dr. Mindy getting more exposure. Thanks, Mel, for having her on periodically. Each KZbin I see her on helps to provide me with more guidance to better control my health.

I have been IF for a year now. I am now doing OMAD and have been doing that for 6 months. I didn't jump right into that lifestyle and took it slow with increasing my fasting time. I learned new things by listening to this Podcast! I am grabbing some MCT oil as that is something I didn't know to add to my lifestyle. I had a full hysterectomy at 32 (now 43) (medically induced full blown menopause) and have been using HRT for 9 months now and that combined with IF has been a game changer for my body. I have lost 40 pounds and feel like me again! Unfortunately if I took a week off from fasting I would gain weight back so dang fast due to the menopause, so I don't do that. I have tried it (vacations etc.) and the weight gain is swift. Thanks for sharing information on this topic. After trying so many ways of eating I have finally found what works for my body and increases my health. More women need to know about IF and its benefits. Especially those of us dealing with menopause. ❤ I am also going to look into the sponsored product you mentioned.

I am a menopausal woman (53) and all of my tools for keeping weight down have failed me. I tried HRT for 2 months and it almost killed me because I got potentially fatal blood clots from HRT. Thankfully I did not die, but I don't have much estrogen I have definitely noticed weight creeping up to a painful point. Now exercise is failing because I have so much joint pain and I need to stop exercising so much. Since menopause I have much worse joint pain! I think I.F. is my only option now but I'm a little scared because when I was in puberty-teen years I would faint if I didn't eat first thing in the a.m.- I suppose I was hypoglycemic as a teen- though I seem to be OK when I tried having just coffee with MCT oils for "breakfast" in the past as an adult. I'd love some feedback. Thanks.

Can’t wait to share what I learned with family and friends. I’ve seen many videos regarding fasting since I’ve been intermittent fasting for the past year or so but this was my first time hearing how us females should not intermittent fast the week before our period due to our progesterone hormone. Also, I never realized that tracking the new moon cycle could be used for those who no longer have a period since its also on a 28-30 day cycle. Thanks again! Love, peace, and blessings ❤

Removing seed oils has been the most difficult part.... but with the BIGGEST payoff! I had already cut out the usual suspects for inflammation (grains, low fat diary and added sugar) and was doing good... the seed oils took it to the next level! In my own experience, it takes over a week of absolutely no seed oils even in tiny amounts to see the improvement of my inflammation going away. But wow! Every part of my body feels like it works better and hurts less and the puffiness that I didn’t even know I had was suddenly gone. It was visible from my belly to my face! I can’t overstate what a difference it made to me.
