It was called the Axiom as the result of a naming contest, won by some guy in Seattle who was given an Axiom as the prize.

These were cool looking for the time. You should have mentioned that the ZXS concept was used in the 2001 movie "Spy Kids." That's the first time I remember seeing it lol.

The Axiom! 🙌🏾 So glad to see this video! I had an '02 dark gray Axiom with 4WD. Base model but I added some of the XS features and upgraded stereo etc. I loved that thing! Very capable and comfortable but unfortunately not reliable. Motor went at 67K. Very disappointing. Got an 04 Chevy Blazer after that. Glad to see you back bro!
@MotorMaster_Stunticon4 ай бұрын
Thanks man. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. So you had an Axiom too? Too bad the motor went so soon. I figured they were more reliable than that.

I miss this era of automotive design! Even though many companies were already sharing platforms and powertrains, there was still a lot of individuality across the board when it came to styling and vehicle tuning like ride.

I owned a 2004 Isuzu Axiom and a 2017 Honda Pilot. The 2004 Isuzu Axiom was way better in quality. I owned it for 5 years and it had 110 k and still ran perfect. The Pilot died at 80k and had several engine issues during ownership and finally a known catastrophic engine failure at 80k.

Welcome back! I was wondering what happened to you. I kept checking your channel to make sure I did not miss a video because sometimes You Tube does give people all their subscriptions. I went back and watched some your old videos again and shared them too. Isuzu struggled in the United States for years. I recall the many GM based vehicles they sold here in the United States. They are big in other global markets. I have see many of them in globalization videos I watch in the background on the streets of many cities globally. GM owned part of Isuzu as well. Some of their vehicles were sold as Chevrolet and GMC. I used to see the medium duty trucks the sold that were used by businesses all over the place. The market changed in the United States. It was hard for them to compete. Again, welcome back and looking forward to new content.

7:48 - Isuzu lived on in North America in the form of the Duramax diesels used by GM's heavy duty trucks, though Isuzu ended that relationship recently.

Isuzu shouldn't have benchmarked the Highlander. That vehicle had a completely different approach with FWD and unibody construction. Axiom was never going to match the car-like attributes that made Highlander appealing. Isuzu should have just positioned it as a competitor to 4Runner Limited or Grand Cherokee Limited which would have been a very niche market, but it was more aligned to Axiom's strengths. Let the Rodeo chase all the Pathfinder/Montero Sport/Blazer sales, and Axiom could pursue the more affluent buyers of that segment.
@MotorMaster_Stunticon4 ай бұрын
True. A 4Runner competitor would’ve been great.

Poor Axiom...Making a real SUV under the skin into a crossover of sorts. Loved the styling though.

Yeah the styling was polarizing. I remember when they first came out back in 2001.
@autochatter4 ай бұрын
@MotorMaster_Stunticon Yeah...I had a car lot years ago and had a Axiom on it for about a month. Drove like a Rodeo. It was kind of the Troopers replacement untill the Ascender came out.

I always had question about Isuzu Is Isuzu a part of general motors
@autochatter4 ай бұрын
G..M. bought a stake in the early 70s of Isuzu. That's where the Chevy LUV trucks came from. I think around 2006, G.M. owned a good portion of the company but sold it off.
@MotorMaster_Stunticon4 ай бұрын
They partnered with GM, but it was more of an independent business venture, rather than a subsidiary of GM.
