Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the intention of the flaps that open when start spin out and starts going backwards isn't to slow them down but rather prevent the car from going airborne when they lose all the forward downforce.

Correct, it interrupts the laminar aerodynamic flow over the top of the vehicle, helping to prevent lift and keeping the car on the ground. They're not perfect, especially over surface changes or when there's other vehicles involved. About the flaps…. Yes they slow the cars down but more importantly prevent them from flipping over while sideways or backwards. By breaking up the airflow over the top of the car so aggressively, the Bernoulli principle is severely disrupted and this also mitigates the pressure differential between under the car and above the car, both decreases the cars chances of flipping.

The circle track racer in me cringes at the amount of misinformation in this video - there's a LOT, especially in the tech aspects - but that's an awful lot of info for someone unfamiliar with oval racing to digest in one day for what is ultimately a 20 minute video. It's not the end of the world, but for a review of this vehicle they really should have used somebody more familiar with this type of racing. Having a well-spoken NASCAR fan try to review a LeMans prototype would have produced similar results. Nothing against Zack, he just wasn't the right presenter for this.

Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) runs a schedule racing a bunch of retired NASCAR Cup cars at road courses across America for some NASCAR, IMSA, and vintage racing weekends. A car like the one shown in the video can easily be found running 10+ race weekends a year in this series. Most teams I saw at Watkins Glen were 3-5 people, and when asked they seemed to be running similar setups across all of the tracks. The racing is casual, but they do push the cars so it's not rare to see a Gen 6 and Gen 4 car battling for the lead.

Google these events if you don't know of them. Other places to drive a nascar race car: The silver state classic in nevada. Big bend open road race in Texas. Put a martinsville rear gear in it and go drag racing. Bonneville salt flats. There's plenty of racetrack country club's located around the usa. Like autobahn country club where you can drive the crap outta it. Plenty of race tracks have open track events ( not racing just driving fast) that you could go drive a stock car there.
