Amos 9:7 [7]Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir? Genesis 10:1-5 [1]Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. [2]The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. [3]And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah. There is no question that there are Jews who don't know that they are Jews and there are Jews who do not look Jewish. Yes, there are Jewish stereotypes that are Eurocentric, and don't be surprised by that because there are so many famous Jews from Europe like Albert Einstein and Ann Frank and Benjamin Disraeli...! The Jews are scattered all over the world and Jesus Christ of Bethlehem, the Good Shepherd, knows where all His sheep are! Some day, God will awaken His chosen people, from all four corners of the earth. And, they will all know that their King and Messiah is Jesus Christ of Bethlehem! Jesus said that we are all fallen sinners and we are! Every single human being is a fallen sinner in need of a Saviour!

As an African-American Orthodox Jew, I get asked about my genealogy all the time. Although I do have a non-Jewish parent (my dad), both my parents are African-American and people have a really hard time understanding how I can be black and Jewish. I love this video...Jewish people can come from all different types of backgrounds.

If both of your parents are African American brought on the slave ships out of West Africa, they are probably from the tribe of Judah and Levi and Benjamin. Read the book of Deuteronomy chapter 28. It talks about the curses and the blessings of the Israelites if they obey and disobey. What would befall them? Amos 9:7-8,11-12,14-15 [7]Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir? [8]Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD. [11]In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old: [12]That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this. [14]And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. [15]And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God. Terror seized upon the native Portuguese Jews, when they helplessly beheld the cruelties to which their Spanish brethren were subjected. They knew they, themselves, could not escape the WRATH of THE CHURCH much longer, and they thought of flight, and well had it been for them had they made their escape then. While they were making secret preparations, John II. died, 1495. He had been afflicted, on the very day when the SHIPS, laden with the JEWISH EXILE CHILDREN, set sail for "The Isle of the Condemned Criminals(Sao Tome Saint Thomas)", with a strange, painful malady, and had lingered ever since. people misunderstand "Judaism doesn't consider itself with race" he ment there are Jews from different backgrounds, I'm a mizrahi jew from iraq for example, he is a jew from Ethiopia and I have a friend a jew from Hungary and my aunt is Philippine jew for example. jews are ethno-race, not a race, ethno-race is an ethnic group that marries within itself or marries into converts who accept the ethnic norms of the group. that's what he ment saying Judaism doesn't care for your race, that many jews from many different backgrounds exist and they all are still Jewish. meaning we don't "identify" Judaism to be "only white jews are jews" or "only black jews are jews" we say: "every jew from every background is Jewish"

u have a point but around the Mediterranean there were many "white/whiter" pp who in a sense coincided with African communities (eg Egypt)...its both Africans (northern; Sahara and above to the middle east), and Europeans (who later migrated up north) that started Judaism....(Abraham himself is described as not a white European but also not an African-more so of a Persian-like man)...lots of Africans whose descendants live in the USA were converted by European colonizers (eg the English). With this said though, there are a handful of "black" Jewish communities in Ethiopia, west bank etc. So in reality id say its the middle easterners, Europeans and blacks of Europe middle east and Africa who technically "started" Judaism... edit: and what @ibebrodey said when i say the sahara i mean not the continent of Africa; mostly the northeast-

This young man is expressing himself for a good reason. Being relegated in a particular way that is notably disrespectful, demeaning, indifferent, with great undertones of silent, off putting treatment, of unacceptance. In a faith mind you that is supposed to be embracing fully everyone of ALL races. I hear Jew this Jew that, you cannot "truly",serve the MOST HIGH, unless your a Jew, the standard bearers. Really? Was not Moshae, black? When the MOST HIGH DELIVERED the children out of mytzryeim, was it just one tribe Judah?, or were there eleven others plus's the Levite's. Were they arrogant and racist before the FACE of the MOST HIGH?, or were they obedient?, And if they crossed that line into breaking covenant, were not they punished? Even unto death?. All that were guilty?. What is justified as acceptable in the face of today's society is going to FLY in the face of HIS RETURN. And FOR SURE HE IS. Don't get mad with me. IT IS WRITTEN, AND PROPHESIED. you believe that appointed time isn't NOW? just look around you, even globally. listen, take note. Even the wicked are dreaming dreams and having vision's. All at the same time. Every one knows something, just isn't right, right along with all of the occurring events. I pray for and with this young man, and his family. Shalom that it would be Shalem for him. Because I understand him, and what he has experience through out his life. Whether perpetrated by one or many, transgression is still transgression in the laws that were handed down to Moshe. What is written in scriptures? There is no such thing as benign ill treatment. BERUCH! BE the SHEM of all shem's shalom

This is going to be long but this came to me to look up. "But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’ But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. “ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’ Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, Matthew 23:5‭-‬15‭, ‬23‭-‬27‭, ‬30‭, ‬34 NKJV

Passages like this have been used to justify the worst forms of brutality against Jews for centuries. Are you aware of this? People picking and choosing quotes from religious texts in order to do harm is nothing new, which is why I ask: what is your purpose and why, if you have read the first reply, is your comment still here after two years? Some years ago, I was a member of a Black church and a young married couple started attending services. I remember being in bible studies or book clubs with the wife and undoubtedly she'd have these profound, but very foundational questions about the faith, like she wasn't sure how any of it fit together, which I took as kind of odd (assuming, as I did, that she'd at least existed in a Christian context, if not actively participating, like most Black Americans had been at the time). Eventually she and I went for coffee and we talked about her family and background. It turned out her husband was Christian, but she was born and raised a Jew. Her parents had converted in their youth before she and her siblings had been born, so the basic tenets and premises of the faith were not familiar to her. Even some of her affect and mannerisms (not meaning to stereotype) were those associated with European Jewish people, which was appropriate given they formed much of her community when she was growing up. It all made sense then. :)

Rabbi, more than racism being the problem, being in exile is the problem. There's no chance of a healthy culture for Jews in America, Black or white. And I agree that you have the obvious added problem of being Black in a community that's 90% Ashkenazi, or as you say Eurocentric. The only chance for Jews to live in a healthy culture is to come home to Israel. Israel is about 30% Ashkenazi and the rest is mixed Sepharedi, Mizrachi and Ethiopian. It's not perfect on the issues you talk about but it's way better, it's getting better and hopefully will only improve as time goes on. Anyway, sorry for the struggles you encounter. It's wrong and hopefully will just be a faded memory someday. We're Am Achad and should treat each other that way.

@Herbal Shaman In terms of Y DNA, Ashkenazim are pretty much evenly J1, J2 and E1b1b (~20% each) with G being around 10% and T being around 3%. At first glance, this shows that ~73% of Ashkenazi Y haplogroups are Middle Eastern. That's not taking into account Middle Eastern subclades of R1a, R1b and Q.
@IamDeathwatch
@IamDeathwatch 5 жыл бұрын
@Herbal Shaman I'm not saying haplogroups are specific to regions - but they did originate in specific regions. J originated in the Middle East and is the most common haplogroup amongst Middle Eastern populations, including Ashkenazim. It's been estimated that around 93% of Ashkenazim paternal haplogroups are of Middle Eastern origin. In my previous comment, I showed guaranteed 73%. For example, I belong to J2. I'm Ashkenazi. I belong to a subclade under J-L24. L24 is the most common J2a subclade in the Middle East according to distribution maps I have seen.
@IamDeathwatch
@IamDeathwatch 5 жыл бұрын
@Herbal Shaman By that logic, you are implying that the Lebanese are mostly European (since their Y DNA distribution is extremely similar to that of Ashkenazim). G and E1b1b are both common in the Middle East, and for some individuals show Middle Eastern origin (like Jews and other Semites). According to Gedmatch calculators, I am at most half European (although some of the oracles say only 40%). It really depends who you test with. DNA tribes typically says around 70% Middle Eastern. Non-commercial DNA studies show similar. Maternal lineages are debated. The most common amongst Ashkenazim is K. This is also found amongst non 'European' Jews as well as Druze. This however, does not affect me, as I belong to HV which is common in the Middle East. I've already linked studies which show that we originated in the Middle East, as much as you would like to deny it.
@IamDeathwatch
@IamDeathwatch 5 жыл бұрын
@Herbal ShamanTo my knowledge, only some of the Lemba (~50% of the Buba) have J1. This came from the Middle East as they claim Jewish origin. I don't think they carried J2. If they did, please link me the study. I don't speak Yiddish. Never have. Never will. I do speak Hebrew at a second language level. My subclade of HV (HV1b2) is not found amongst any of the populations you have mentioned. It is apparently found amongst Yemenite Jews, Moroccan Jews and 'Palestinian' Jews. The company I tested with actually provided me with a distribution: Yemen 44%, Saudi Arabia 20%, Iraq 19%...I've already told you that my commercial DNA test shows that I'm more Middle Eastern than European (GEDMatch) and both of my direct lineages stem from the Middle East. I'm not denying European ancestry. It's very substantial. It's just not the majority. Why are you so fixated on denying Ashkenazi origins in the Middle East, when most commercial DNA tests and non-commercial studies say you are *wrong*? I posted plenty of links to assist you.

i can understand being Christian, Christ first came for the Jews...his people, but then he opened it up for the gentiles. But whats up with gentiles becoming Jewish ? that religion is exclusive to the peoples known as Jews ... read the BIBLE the Jews and their story is all there. The story does not include every one .

What does this have to do with racism??? Im Mexican Orthodox Jew and I’ve never gotten any sort of racial remarks. I’ve met many African Jews, Black Jews, European, Russian, white, brown, tan, even Chinese! Where is this racism that he speaks of? People always ask where I’m from because I look a lot more middle eastern than anything. Some thought I was sephardic, syrian, israeli. I’m actually more ashkenazi because of my polish heritage yet I’m really tan. So where is this racism my guy? Where? People that live in this mindset think everything has to do with racism.

You live in a box compared to the grand scheme of society itself. Don't make generalizations about the world based on your own experience. There are a plethora of videos showing legit racism. Look them up yourself.
