Imagine having the senses to hear the heartbeat in the womb, to smell the actual life growing at a level we can't even fathom. That's what I find fascinating, cats and dogs can literally experience these things through their senses while we require tests. And they can even build bonds based on that, just because they love us, before a child is even born. Talk about companions, kinda real life Pokémon.

@Pat Patrix Women knew when they were pregnant thousands of years before tests. And ever hear the old saying, “Curiosity killed the cat”? Cats are curious about/fascinated by new things n their environments - giant stomachs, tiny humans, for instance. They’re attracted to warmth as well. For some reason, probably due to diverted blood flow to the area, growing a baby increases belly temperature. I agree that animals are phenomenal but they don’t “smell” placentas or embryos. There are socio-scientific reasons for their behavior. And, like humans, animals are “hardwired” for bonding.

@@63artemisia63 they can smell pheromones and hormones in each other for their own mating purposes, why wouldn't they be able to detect our own? And I never said they smell a placenta or embryo, although they very well might be able to smell placenta considering how nutritious and calorie dense it is. A predator would naturally be attracted to that. I'm not making them into some sort of mythical creature, just making note that some of their senses are impressive compared to our own.

My mom and dad had a adult female all black short hair cat named Phoebe. She bond like this with both me and my older sister b4 were born too. First my sister than me 5 yrs later. And would watch over us and protect us etc. And the Dachshund named Harvey at the time bonded with each of us too. And would sleep under the bassinet after first my sister then me 5 yrs later were born and if we even made the slightest noise. My parents told me my sis too. He would go get Boss or Mamm. We were their siblings and part of his pack and her Pride and I know they loved all of us very much. Sadly they both passed away to go over the Rainbow bridge to Heaven b4 I was able to start making memories to remember them. But there were pictures we still have. And my youngest cat I have by myself as an adult Celina could pass as Phoebes clone lol my older cat is a snow shoe named Prisscilla. And they are fun. But when I think of the first kitty and doggiefamily members and friends I had in my life and iam sure is what set me down my life long path for rescuing and adopting kitties and doggies thru ot my life and a few small other critters. I just feel so much unconditional love and acceptance and warmth. Just glad my parents were great pet ppl and came from generations of great pet and animal ppl on both sides. And it's still being passed on to my niece and her brother my nephew and they are extremely chill and calm and and so great with their sister duo of their long haired Greay cat named Skeeter and have chi half jack Russell dog Rosie and my nephews rescued Hamster ,he needed a new home so my sister and brother in law owed it and let my nephew adopt him. At first everyone even previous owners thought he was a she so that why he has the name Alba but it more like Mr Alba now..lol it does really matter though my nephew loves Alba for being just Alba which is very cool. And he is so sweet and gentle with Alba and now the other 2. And Alba feels safe enough in my sisters home to escape from his habitat all the time. But doesn't try to escape her house which is so cute. Sorry to be so excessive and long is just animals are so amazing and sometimes we are blessed to get to share are lives with some really great ones. Good pistive things for everyone everywhere. It’s an old wives’ tale that is unfortunately still told today. I volunteer at a shelter and we get numerous requests for cat abandonment once a woman becomes pregnant. The cat hasn’t done anything but people “warn” them and they act out of uncorroborated fear. I cry for these cats every time. Most of the time we’re at full capacity so the cat is either euthanized or sent to a high-kill shelter. Heartbreaking!

I have heard that all my life and know it’s ridiculous but it’s an old wives’ tale that a cat could put their mouths close to a baby’s nose and “suck the breath out of the baby” and smother it (the baby). I heard that all my childhood.

My parents …. My Mum brought home my family’s first cat when she was about 20 weeks pregnant with my oldest sibling. My parents were living in a pet and child free apartment at the time, so they knew they would be leaving soon. (Turns out a year later. 😂 ) We had our cat for 18 ½ years. I hope this family has Maisie for just as long or longer. I love that these two will grow up together.

It was a new build when they moved in, in ‘79. It’s grandfathered in that it is a child & pet free condo. Not to say that there weren’t kids that were in the pool while visiting relatives who lived there, but yeah, they still exist.

My cat was the same way when I was pregnant. He slept at the end of my sons crib. 11 yrs I had another son and he did the same thing. I had him for 18 wonderful yrs. Oh and he loved to lay on my back/shoulders when I did gardening. Great memories for me and for u. ❤️

This reminds me so much of my beloved cat simma (Cinnamon. She never left my side and was always at my daughters side when I was pregnant and was obsessed with her baby sister. When Amber got older she would literally sleep at the bottom of her cot, then her bed. We had her for 14½ yrs and still miss her today. maisie will grow up with her sister and will make so many happy memories together. Lovely story Dodo. ❤️

My parents got a black fluffy little guy just before I was born, and he was my best buddy until I lost him in high school. My brother and I were sad, but were life time cat people. Now our kids grew up with cats, and asked for cats when they move out. Ofc. Animals are important parts of every family. Especially when your cat let's you dress him up for tea parties. That will depend on the parents, I had three boys and I'm an animal fanatic, I taught all 3 of mine to be gentle and kind to animals, and would never let a small toddler be alone or abuse an animal, it's all in the teaching!

Maisie looks like Tortie or Calico. When I used to volunteer with cats we used to say that they had "Tortietude," because they could be hot-tempered and unpredictable. But, Maisie seems so gentle and clam. So cute how protective and loving she is with the baby.

My kitty will lay on me until I wake up. There were a few times where I woke up but I didn't open my eyes yet and I could hear her playing with her toys. I swear when you have a kitten while pregnant, they bond with your baby more then you do. I was 9 weeks pregnant when my baby daddy brought home a 3day old abandoned kitten. Had to bottle feed and stimulate that little guy, my whole pregnancy he was glued to my belly always listening and bumping his head against my belly when my twins would visibly move. almost 3 years after bringing him home he now goes back and forth between sleeping with my daughters and on the nightstand between their beds, and my girls love him.
