I play a lot of KSP in career mode, so I'm always taking tourist contracts for the money, and a mün-minmus trip is a must on those or you'll find yourself launching 2-3 times the same tourist just to complete the contract... Of course once you have infrastructure in orbit it's a lot cheaper to do... I have a tourist transport vessel the size of a building, reusable landers and mining colonies on both moons... and of course a fleet of passenger SSTOs... I simply love this game...

Tourism contracts are boring as hell, but once you're in a position to complete full itineraries for a dozen or more tourists in one mission with reusable spacecraft, they become a lot more interesting and lucrative. :) I always get amused by the thought of many Kerbals tourists receiving the special surprise announcement that even though they only paid to go to the Mun, they're about to do that plus land on Minmus plus orbit around the sun before coming home again. Tesselation means subdividing the geometry (and normally, using a height map to displace the vertices up and down). This is a different approach, it's parallax mapping. Basically, you have several layers stacked on top of the geometry with some transparency (I'm oversimplificating). Think about those videos were an artist paint a golden fish on bucket with resin. There is a paint layer, a resin layer, another paint layer and so on. That's why it looks you are floating over the floor, it's because it is, in fact, flat.

@kleinbottled794 жыл бұрын
I've been playing maybe about as long as you on-and-off. Really didn't even occur to me to abuse clipping for a long time. Eventually though, you find a situation where you feel like you 'need' to do it. Much like Matt did in this video, if I can make an excuse for myself as to why the clipping is "realistic" I don't feel like it's cheating... too much. Yeah I'm probably going to KSP hell also. I very rarely have any use for cheating in games, but the clipping is toooo useful sometimes. I also really really like the mod that lets you control the scale of most parts with a slider. Almost makes the early game (career) too easy, but wow can you ever dial in your stages to do exactly what you need and no more. So efficient. Much fun.

The only problem with Parallax is that the actual ground collider stays the same, so the terrain bumpiness is just visual. Your objects can be half buried or half floating above the ground. Obviously, you would need a super calculator to play KSP if the terrain had the collider changed to that level... So I don't know if I will keep it. The great advantage of the mod is that it makes load on demand textures mandatory so it loads only the textures it needs from one body instead of everything. That saves a lot of RAM. Matt, a mod for the Science Jr being 2.5 m diameter and low in height exists... go look for it (don't remember the name but some of you will, no doubt, Kottabos Games showed in one of his videos). You also have another mod for a small Science junior the size of a Mystery Goo capsule. (is it the MSP 3000?) I now only use Science Jr original parts when there is a specific contract (the modded parts are supposed to work for contracts but they usually don't so just in case...) otherwise I take the MSP 3000 all the time now. Never had the disappearing instrument bug, I alreadyy redeployed instruments successfully (in pure stock of course, this might be a Kopernicus bug for what we know) The FPS loss that you experience comes from stock ground scatter so if you recude it, you'll have less rocks and less FPS losses. If KSP 1 development continues for a while, once all planets and parts have been revamped, they'll have nothing else to do than adding clouds and revamping atmospheres, I guess... unless they add parts in DLCs...

"tesselation" doesn't mean "puting rocks on the ground", its actually just the name for a texturing method for unlimited surfaces that works by tiling the surface with pieces with compatible edges. Its nothing new, stock KSP already uses a very poor flat tesselation, this mod just gave the tiles deapth. Personally, i think that the could have done it even better with a non periodic tiling like a Penrose tiling.
@blackrack20084 жыл бұрын
Tesselation in this case refers to hardware tesselation which subdivides triangles on the fly on the GPU and then displaces those triangle vertices to create more detail. KSP stock doesn't have "flat tesselation".

Matt, the 3.5 meter tanks are scaled to the SLS and its 8 meter diameter, the 5 meter tanks are scaled to the saturns 11 meter tanks, that’s why the mammoth is 3.5 meters. The 2.5 meter boosters arent based off of any real design, the 1.7 meter boosters are based off the shuttle. The problem with scaling in KSP is the mk3 command pod is the size of an Apollo, not Orion, so the scaling with the shuttle parts is also a nightmare.
