They sounded fabulous, but the message of this song! Oh, my!

This written and sung by the British band Dire Straits in response to The Falkland War in the early 1980s. The Finnish a capella group Club For Five did the incredible arrangement and graciously allowed Home Free to use their arrangement. Tim only added the echoes. A Home Free masterpiece. 😊

I thought everything about it was perfect. The pauses were artistically placed I think to reflect the pain of battle "choking up" his expression of his thoughts. I thought that was obvious.

Chance has said this is one of his favourite songs and he's following Mark Knopflers style in the original version. I like it because it leaves space for the backing harmony to shine through.

"Helplessly Hoping" is a candidate for best harmony, too, in my book. Oh, and there's "Seven Bridges Road", too. But this is hauntingly beautiful...and as the daughter of a WW2 vet and the mother of a retired Marine, who served in Iraq...it hits home for me.

This is such a sad, hauntingly beautiful song. Although the slant of this rendition is American (only due to the flags), it applies equally to every military branch in every country. The singing & harmonies are incomparable. Thanks for playing this one & your comments. And Congratulations! You now have 10K!! yippee!

I have always been a fan of this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome along with Chance's smooth baritone & loved it when all the guys were doing 5 part harmonies. Who would believe humming could sound so good. They gave it a very solemn feeling. I love that they don't overproduce their songs. These guys are my favorite a cappella group out there.

I always liked the Dire Straits version, but I only got really interested in this song through Home Free. (Although I have to be honest I think Dire Straits guitar playing is phenomenal) Yes, this version of Home Free will send shivers through your entire body! This is so emotional. Beautifully sung by Tim and Chance, but the background and harmony of Adam, Rob and Austin is also so beautiful. It looks like a choir or actually a kind of church organ sounds. And the whole setting of the video is just amazing. Simple but with so many details that makes it so profound

Home Free always pays appropriate respect in their covers--especially to the content! Their talent is amazing--and I LOVE their 5-part harmony❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥 #HomeFree #AdamRuppSinging

One of the reasons the harmonies sound so full is the vocal addition of Adam Rupp with Austin and Rob... as for the gaps- to me, its emotion in storytelling in my opinion. Anyway take care!

One of my favorites! Yes, those harmonies are outstanding. Loved Tim and Chance’s verses. Loved the echoes. Tim went really low here. It’s just stunning and I loved that the boys looked like ghosts in the windows. Good one Kaireem. Helplessly Hoping, In the Blood, One Man Band, Stand by Me are also great harmonies. Heck, I love all their songs. 🥰😃
